It may be more desirable, but how is number 0000 any rarer than number 0372?

i would say 0000 is rarer as than 0372 as would have been the first made a hell of alot of checks would have been made to see the standard had been met all over. it would have also been the q.c. copy before the whole batch was run and yes i would have said the most desirable/important thats why the expression rare as hens teeth was used because in my eyes it meets all of the above unless you would say 0372 or any other number you care to name would have been more important because i can't see it myself as i worked in manufacturing last 20 years?
but i will bow to your greater knowledge if you can explain otherwise and to enlighten me why they are equal all of them?

Who's to say that the "0000" copy is a test copy? You could essentially stick that card on any of the 1000 or so steels and say it's #0000. I'd venture to guess the test copies don't come with a number. But that's just my uneducated guess
