I liked TFA but I think it's time I gave up with Star Wars. I'm feeling more and more disenfranchised with it by the day, not a fan of where Disney is taking it. Watching the trailer it looked like your run-of-the-mill action film with clone troopers in it. I want to love it but it just doesn't gel right.

When I watched the trailer I thought pretty much the same and maybe a little bit worse. Boy, was I wrong!

Actually, I'm also passing on seeing this in the theatre. Will wait for the BD release. TFA was a big disappointment for me and even though I bought it on blu and again in 3D, no one in the family wants to watch it with me because they all think that ANH was better!

Ah, I see, new Disney steelbook releases (2016) . . .
A quick glance will show these - could be other examples on both sides but as mentioned these are based on a quick look.

With spine titles:-
MOANA, AGENT CARTER, JESSICA JONES, THE ROCKETEER, ROGUE ONE, MONSTERS INC, FROZEN, BRAVE, TOY STORY, SNOW WHITE, THE LION KING, FINDING NEMO, AGE OF ULTRON, ANT-MAN, TREASURE PLANET, SIGNS, THE COLOUR OF MONEY, DOCTOR STRANGE, STAR WARS: REBELS - SEASON ONE, ALICE IN WONDERLAND. 20

New (2016) Disney release steelbook titles . . .
Without spine titles:-
THE GOOD DINOSAUR, ZOOTROPOLIS, THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, FINDING DORY, PETE'S DRAGON. 6

OK, not 99% this year but 99% from the first U.K. Disney steelbook (the two gorgeous PRINCE OF PERSIA steelbooks in 2010).

The point is new movies which have been WWA have all been without titles bar 1 or 2 ( into the Woods and Maleficent) all Marvel since Iron Man 3 have been without titles.

But yes Zavvi's back catalogue WEA steelbook have all had titles.

I'm still struggling to see the point unless it's because you and others like you are not happy with the creativity of the spine thumbnail images or artwork continuing over the spine from front to back and looking better without titles . . .
It may surprise you and others like you to know that there are people like myself out there who don't mind a row of thumbnails on the spines and who actually prefer them to boring old titles particularly on animated or superhero steelbook titles where they sit better for some reason, I'd imagine, than on say a regular thriller or other genre steelbook where they are not to be found.

Personally speaking I have no objection to any of the following spines (just taking a few examples that immediately spring to mind):-

If that's your opinion fair enough. For me I like to have titles on the spine at least. It looks so much better than the thumbnail pictures, not to mention that they look out of place with ones that do have titles on.

Don't forget that this isn't an artistic decision to put the pictures on, it's a cost cutting one.

I Can't imagine a book, a CD or even a vinyl LP not having a title on the spine!

^ I understand the comparison between steelbooks and CD / books / LPs as much as I understand some peoples' dislike of spines without titles. The comparison is fair in that all contain audio or video media . . .

My personal view, however, is that steelbooks are "special" and more important than all of those products if only because of what they are made of.

Steelbooks can/should be - and are - canvases for amazing artwork with equally amazing effects and finishes . . . effects that would be impossible to reproduce on products made of other materials.

Furthermore, nobody who pays 50 quid plus for their steelbooks is going to convince me that they buy them for the films inside . . . films that can be bought for a fraction of the price in plastic cases or downloaded for even less.

Breaking down title-less spines I'd put them into 3 categories:-

1) Manufacturing mistakes (T2, HUNGER GAMES: MJ 1 as just two examples).

2) So-called cost-cutting measures used on WWA spines by the studio/manufacturer to avoid the multiple languages titles. A nonsense (IMO) because if the film has an English title it should be that same English title no matter where it is released !
Works the other way around too - with foreign language films . . . plenty of which I've got . . . many with titles in their respective languages and I'd be miffed if they translated the titles into English.
Titles substituted by thumbnail images of the cast which IMO can look just fine on some (ZOOTROPOLIS, THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and INSIDE OUT spring to mind) and less fine on others (MONSTERS UNI, FROZEN, LONE RANGER spring to mind).

3) Totally deliberate . . . at the request of the designer . . . so as not to interfere with the wraparound artwork (DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS, HEROES REBORN come to mind).

I don't expect anyone here to agree with the above but that's my point of view in a nutshell.
................................................................................................................................................................
A quick check of my LPs from the 1970's / 1980's reveal only one mainstream LP without a title - Pink Floyd's "The Wall" - but quite a few others in the Reggae section as well as some LP sized 45s without spine titles.

Just back from seeing this, loved it, & can't wait to see it again!
I was the same way. It's rare for me to want to see a film again straight away after first viewing.

That third act though......

On a different note, I wish they left the At-At's at the bottom of the steelbook from the original poster art.

That's me, too. I was disappointed with Force Awakens, but Rogue One is exactly the kind of Star Wars movie I've been wanting. Lots of nice payoffs for people who have watched Rebels and kept up with some of the novels and graphic novels, too--but without becoming distracting from the great movie. Can't wait to see it again! :)

Seen this last night in the local IMAX
With being a fan of the clone wars, rebels not so much, this felt more like it.
Although the ending was known it did not matter.
Great battle scenes and really enjoyed when you were put in the perspective of being in one of the fighters, not giving anything away though.

Will be an IMAX double visit I feel
