I didn't open my copy yet but it looks like matte finish.
@lgans316 unfortunately no. This is the same crappy matte finish we've gotten from target before. At least we know how to remedy that.
For what it's worth, the target I went to this morning had about 15 copies, and only a couple of them had spine slashes. I noticed a lot of off-center titles on the spine

Plenty of copies at my store. Maybe around 30. I didn't count but went through a few in the front and back in the movie section to make sure I got a mint one.

Thanks, I was able to replace it. I was just surprised someone packing to ship it was like... eh, ok. The scratches were so deep you could see them on the inside.
This doesn't have spot gloss on the back like some other releases. If I knew, I would have kept it sealed and returned it
Target in Chantilly, VA also has a whole ton on display. Saw about 5 on the side with the rest of the movies, another 10 or so up front by register and another 15 or so on cardboard display. About same amount in Manassas. Guess these might last a little longer around here.
North America has its own factory so pretty much all our releases come from there. Unfortunately, that factory produces the lowest quality steelbooks imho. Cheap grainy matte finishes and even the gloss ones are a step below the Worldwide releases. Im really disappointed with the finish of 95% of all the recent US releases from the past couple years.
I agree, most steelbooks that are U.S. Exclusives are of cheap quality. Should have gotten a European release to open because of the spot gloss finish on the back art. Probably saved some money by not importing but at $24.99 for this, probably not much saved.
