I dont know how long I will do this, or if people have questions ... but I'll check this thread daily in case people have questions about steelbooks etc. I'll try to answer to the best of my ability from what I am allowed to say in some cases or just info you may not have seen me drop before in past threads.

Hey Wreck Do you know if any country will have different art for the Thor 2 Steel like a actual printed title?

Not sure where to ask this - but wondering if anyone knew where to get any of those sticky 'spider hub' things to add an extra disc to the inside of a steelbook (at the moment they just go in a disc wallet inside the case when I have an extra disc)

Wreck.. with the massive Barrage of Disney steels Zavvi is churning out soon, can you comment on whether or not any of these will be glossy like Aladdin was? To me it seems pretty ridiculous that Zavvi is not disclosing that information, since we are all preordering and should know what we are buying which is why all the other retailers disclose finish on every single steelbook beforehand. It actually seems sorta sly and backhanded to be honest. It should be known. Any info would be appreciated, even if it's just an update on any efforts being made to get gloss back as the norm for these higher priced steels like Disney.

Hell.. we got this guy Howie glossing up steels in his garage. There's a whole thread on it now.

Thanks Wreck.

Aside from the handful of specialised Asian retailers and Entertainment Store, I can't think of any retailers that disclose details regarding embossing, finish, print run etc. You don't see any of the major retailers around the World revealing this information.

Zavvi does a lot of exclusive steelbooks. They know all of the details you listed. They choose to list some of those details when it works out well for them. When it's not good news, they omit it.

Amazon.UK has done exactly zero exclusive steelbooks where they control the process.

Walmart, BB, Target hardly count, as they are insanely massive companies that are not going to ever listen to any collectors about anything. They are gonna do whatever they want.

Most of the other retailers we all order from on HDN that do exclusives show you EVERYTHING in the package. Think about it. Kimchi, BF, ES, now Plain Archive. Heck even the Taiwan steels which are pretty much never exclusive.. we still know what's coming. The only non-North American retailer that is doing exclusives and keeping a lot of important details mum is... Zavvi.

Whilst I agree with that I'd rather something be done about the release date of Disney Steels and steels in general. Jan and Feb seems bad. 4 on the 20th Jan and 4 on the 17th Feb, three days after Valentines. Do studios assume people are single?

That is in addition to the slew of other steels released on the 10th and 17th Feb too. Nothing seems to be coming out on the 3rd or 24th (I haven't really checked).

Wreck - why is it Studios seem to release lots of steels in one go? Is it contractual for the films themselves? Is it just because they see someone else doing it and want to compete? Or is it just because Feb 10th and 17th have always been big dates in the steelbook/movie world?

I am starting to notice a new pattern creep up that needs to be addressed to keep steelbook collecting alive.

A new steelbook is announced and it's everything a collector could want. It's a good movie, has great art work, and has a ton of extras.

The only problem is the print run is way too high so it doesn't sell out. Huge blockbusters are getting the same print runs as older films, Cult films and Oscar films. This problem is most common in the Asian market but applies in other markets as well.

The solution is to follow Sideshow Collectibles and base the print run on the popularity of the movie, combined with the demand for the steelbook based on pre-orders. Would it be possible to not announce a print run until after the pre-orders are in place?

What are the chances you could convince retailers to implement the Sideshow Collectibles print run strategy? I ask you Wreck because I know you collect Sideshow.

Wreck, do you know of any steel/s that were announced as being a 4k print run, then after release that number increased further? The reason I ask is that even now, long after Play Exclusives were issued, many are still in stock elsewhere. For example Goldeneye, Bad Boys, Children of Men, Wolverine etc.

Wreck. Do you know if there will be a better Steelbook release of Cliffhanger in the near future??

I really want the film but don't really want the poor German Steelbook release if another superior version is going to be released around the corner.....

Any info would be greatly appreciated
