Yeah it's really good. Not very gory mostly cartoonish squirty blood! Not as shocking as some of the violent stuff in The Raid.

I didn't find The Raid shocking, but the first time I saw Battle Royale I was shocked and disturbed. It's a frightening concept in itself.

Anyone else read the book?

I thought the film was a rarity in that it was actually better (and the book is excellent)

I loved the book! The manga is awesome as well.

Yes! The novel fleshed out many of the characters I wanted to know more about, giving more insights into their history, etc. Also provides more backstory about much of the stuff going on. I'd highly recommend the novel if you loved the film. :D

For those who has NOT seen this movie before...

Keep in mind that the movie was made in the year 2000 and you have to read English subtitle. Don't expect high tech CGI effects LOL...

I hope we don't have folks who are going to say "I hate reading subtitle, etc"

Yeah, and the manga goes even deeper into the characters. Each student has their own story IIRC. Also, while the novel is far, far more violent than the already very violent film, it's nothing compared to the insane gore and explicit sex (sometimes at the same time) of the manga.

No surprise there then. This may be another contender for Steelbook of 2012 if it turns out how we all hope (so many good releases this year though, Play.com have spoiled us).

Selling out in a week and a half is amazing! With Play having world exclusive rights means this is one hot cookie not to miss out on!

Some quick maths here. Assuming this does sell out end of the week (Sunday) and it came up for pre-order on the 2nd. Thats 13 days to sell out. 4k run means a average of 307 copies ordered every day. Meaning potentialy only 1,800ish copies left to order. So more than half allocation gone in 7 days.

It doesn't quite work like that. Most copies are sold in the immediate rush in the first few days to members of sites like this one who are in the know. The remainder then sell at a slower rate to people who find out from others about its availability, stumble across the title on the shops website, or who were on holiday etc when it was announced.

Its just an average. They basically have sold 2k copies in 7 days which is amazing. The other 2k will be expected to be gone by the end of the week.
