I can't believe there isn't a thread in here strictly for Beer. Well now there is.

So I'm going to Phoenix and this store is about 3 miles from the house I am renting. I need some recommendations of beer they sell. I'm looking for Hoppy beers please. I've had a few of them they sell but not allot. HELP ME OUT!

Thanks

BoB

got 17 different hefe and dunkels from different regions of germany, I am still working my way down. BTW the rauchbier is much tastier from tap. I went to bamberg looking for the original brewery and it's awesome! They actually have a hefe too, not just the dark type.

I would love to trade with you guys. and I will. Currently I am trying to take a trading break. I have one i just shipped and one possible trade then i wanna stop for a few months lol

That's an even bigger tease than Wreck and his pics. Just kidding.

what a tease :p

i got a beer tasting party im going to this saturday. there should be a good amount of people going, all medical students who like beer. im debating on whether or not to bring a very powerful DIPA, or just play it safe. most of my other beers are safe ones, so i kinda want to spice it up.

my other reservation is that its my last bottle, but im pretty sure its brewed year round so im not worried about getting more

Which one is it? Possibly bring one safe and your DIPA?

They've actually got more than just those two. I love how AS smokes all of their biers. Each beer has it's own bacon-y goodness.

That place was jammed packed dude! When I walked out of the restaurant there was a massive line waiting for a seat. Many of them had already started the rounds of beer while standing and waiting.

its a secret, but you might find out soon ;)

my safe beer is a growler of tyranena's painted ladies pumpkin spice ale. that should make up for it if nobody likes my dipa :scat:

i got bamboozled by a milwaukee store today regarding CBS. i called them this afternoon and they said they had a couple bottles left. i was shocked and asked if they could hold one for me and they said no. so i drove the 20 mins to the store only to find out that they cant sell any of the bottles until they give their "loyal founders customers" a chance this weekend (aka her employees). i let her know she wasted like an hour of my day and gas, and she apologized and said she would call me if there are any left on monday. im not holding my breath.

as i was walking out i saw they had upland raspberry and kiwi lambics, but i was pretty upset so i didnt pick any up.

How long can you keep beer shelved? I mean I know it probably depends, esp since some are good aged .. but throw away the fact of these beers being those that are good aged ... how long before I need to drink these? Cause I'm thinking of stocking some stuff up so when friends do visit I got all kinds of ****. But then I dont want to hold stuff so long it becomes crap.

Gentlemen, I had the up most privilege of enjoying a glass of Founders CBS on TAP tonight! It was just awesome. Someone posted on BA that a bar here in milwaukee tapped it tonight and i drove down there right away by myself (wife was working). talked to some guys there who know way more about beer than me, it was a great time. and, i got CBS on tap! what a great day :) :) :)

you should wait till off or splax comment, as they know more about aging than i do. but from what i understand, there are some beers that age better than others. for example, you lose some of the crisp and fresh hopiness of an IPA or DIPA if you age it, so it doesn't age as well as your stouts, porters, sours, or barrel aged brews which actually have more flavors come out stronger as it ages.

i can't say for sure if this is true as i haven't had any beer that i myself tried, then aged and compared. but this is what ive heard. you also have to have a lot of will power not to drink the beer you are aging. right now im aging about a dozen bottles.

We've got a couple places that will have CBS on tap soon, so I will hit that up.

Aging stuff, Mobius covered it really well. From what I've found, the higher AVB beers are the ones that you should age. Stick to the list that Mobius gave on what styles age well. You probably wouldn't want to age a light lager or a wheat beer or an Oktoberfest/Marzen, essentially the lighter bodied styles. With the wheat beers in mind, you can and should age a wheat wine (Founders Nemesis 2009). Also, if you are going to age beers, keep them in a cool, dark place.

My cellar list isn't nearly as impressive as Splax, but I've got a few good ones:
2010 3F Dark Lord (RIS)
2010 Surly Darkness (RIS)
2010 Deschutes Abyss (RIS)
Deschutes Black Butte XXIII (Porter)
2008 Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout (IS)
2011 Goose Island Big John (IS)
Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout (IS)

Still want to add BCBS, BCBS - Vanilla, other years of DL, and other years of Darkness with an extreme want of 2011 Darkness for the zombie bottle.

I'm planning on brewing next weekend or the weekend after that. I'm thinking an IPA or Amber Ale. It will be my second all grain, and I hope it turns out better than the last. I think I over sparged the last batch.

alright ladies and germs ... here is my score! Some duplicates in the fridge.

Quick question fellas ---

What's your favorite pumpkin ale?

I picked up some Dogfish Head "Punkin" Ale last night from BevMo, after a few friends suggested it... But I was a little let down by the lack of pumpkin in it. Don't get me wrong, the beer itself was very good. But since its October, and I'm looking for a seasonal pumpkin ale, I was hoping for a stronger taste of it.

I noticed Wasatch Pumpkin Ale and Shocktop's as well. They also had a pint of Shipyard's "Smashed Pumpkin" up front... but that was $10 for a pint, a little rich for my blood.

I do love my Shipyard though, as its made back where I grew up (in the great state o' Maine). I think they have another, cheaper variety called "Pumpkinhead" if memory serves. I'm definitely interested in trying that out.

Have any of you guys tried those styles in question? Any other suggestions, something I could at least find at BevMo?

I'm basically looking for as sweet/pumpkin as I can find.

I had the blue moon pumpkin seasonal one, not bad but not great.

I had shipyard for first time a few months ago. It was a big bottle and $12 but it was awesome.

You need to check out Total Wine on camelback rd. You will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! I believe they are on the web too. totalwine.com They have so many beers its insane.

Southern Tier Pumking, Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela (if you like it a little sour), and Heavy Seas The Greater Pumpkin (Barrel aged version) are my favorites though im not sure they are distributed by you. Others that are really good are Schafly Pumpkin Ale and Williamsburg AleWerks Pumpkin. I also hear Elysian makes some good pumpkin beers. You gotta read the label a lot of pumpkin beers are just beer brewed with spices. You gotta find the ones brewed with real pumpkin. Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks, Wreck, I'll definitely check that place out. That store/Arrowhead mall area is really close to me... a few exits West on the 101. :)

Splax, thanks for the tip... I'll keep an eye out! I tried searching both BevMo and Total Wine, and neither of them carry ANYTHING you listed! Dammit!! I did see the Pumking listed as one of the best Pumpkin ales at BA.com... too bad I can't get it here.

I also checked BA.com for the reviews on Shipyard's pumpkinhead... and they were really bad. So odd, cause Shipyard, as far as I know, is really respected. The two reviews at BevMo's site were very positive, but that's obviously not enough to be taken seriously.

I had another "punkin" ale with lunch... and it really is a great beer. Very little bitterness, which is a quality I enjoy. Just not enough pumpkin flavor, unfortunately.

The search continues....

so far tho, new glarus' IIPA is my favorite. odell's mycenary is prolly second. looking forward to trying surly's wet, i heard this year's is 100% citra hops! :) :)

I'd rather have an amber ale, or even a stout ... every INDIA PALE ALE has been crappy. Only pale ale I liked was Rolling rock.
