I can't believe there isn't a thread in here strictly for Beer. Well now there is.

So I'm going to Phoenix and this store is about 3 miles from the house I am renting. I need some recommendations of beer they sell. I'm looking for Hoppy beers please. I've had a few of them they sell but not allot. HELP ME OUT!

Thanks

BoB

My new purchase. The CBS is from someone that owed me a bottle. The Backwoods is for a friend. The New Glarus is for me and my brother. He is turning 21 next month and I am gonna try to get him interested in craft beer. I already knows he likes raspberry tart so i got him a bottle of that and belgian red.

The skinny bottle in the middle is a mead from B. Nektar Meadery. Its call The Heart of Darkness and it is the single most expensive bottle i have ever bought. Luckily a friend and I both pitched in for it. Its so damn good tho. One of the best meads i have ever had.

Cheers!!

Wow! The awesomeness in the picture almost rivals the awesomeness in the Black Tuesday pic. I've had the Backwoods, still have my CBS, and thanks to Mobius, I've also got a bottle of the Belgian Red. The raspberry sounds really good too.

i had the raspberry on tap last night. first time ive ever had it actually. is a solid brew, not quite as good as the red imo but very good flavors and just tart enough

I thought about it longer and forgot about black orchard not orchid lol. Ive never had it Wreck. Is it good? I wish the bruery was distributed in Michigan. I have a friend from Washington who just became a member of their Reserve Society. So any special releases he said he would trade with me as long as he got at least two bottles for himself lol

I can get plenty more of these, they are $8.49 each before tax and all that good stuff. When I poured it in a 22 oz ... It was only decent to me, when I drank the rest the next day straight out the bottle it was actually pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of "the fizz" but straight out the bottle stopped that and then I enjoyed it.

i met john fryer, one of the founders reps last night at a founders thing here in milwaukee. seemed like a pretty cool guy, i talked to him about about next year's backstage series and other new stuff they are coming up with. also asked him about upping production of cbs, which he said no they cant right now cause they dont have the barrels. he also said they have 3 less barrels of KBS this year compared to last year.

I got 6 bottles of 12 that got imported .... Moylans black and orange or orange and black whichever its called ... big bottles .... drank two ... feeling lovely. ;) They are a 3.5 hour drive away, so it was cool to find a store that would order them up last week. $5.49 a bottle before tax ..... but worth it.

It's like a Guiness mixed with blue moon ... but better.

Beer Pickup

this one has a story attached, so gather round, lol

The wifey wanted to make some brandy old fashioneds tonight, so i told her id pick up the stuff this morning while she slept. really it was just an excuse to take a trip to my choice of liquor stores :D sneaky sneaky!

so i show up and start browsing the beer aisle. i found some gems, including 2009 vintage Goose Island Christmas Ale, as well as some left over Tyranena chocolate oatmeal stout.

as im walking down and checking out all they have (its a long aisle with tons of beer, so it takes me awhile to make sure i dont miss anything), im standing next to a guy in the sours area, and we both are looking at what they got. then one of the distributors that is stocking the aisle asks the guy right next to me "do you like sours". the guy hesitantly responds yah. then the distributor says "well i got a bottle of cantillon gueze in the back if you want it."

my eyes just about explode, then i start chanting inside my head as loud as i can "please say no, please say no, please say no..."

of course, the guy responds, as nonchalant as ive ever heard, "sure"

i quickly say "if you got two, ill take one." of course he doesn't. so i congratulate the guy, he apologizes (WT:angry:!?!), and i say don't be sorry, thats an awesome score.

i put my best pouty face on, hoping that the distributor feels bad for me, which i think worked cause he asked "hey, do you like the bruery beers?" i say yes, and he says "i have some bruery/DFH collaboration in the back, you want one?" i emphatically say yes, because that is how you appropriately respond to a question like that. so he comes back with a bottle of faster, bigger, better, bolder and hands it to me.

OH HAPPY DAY!

i also picked up some alpha klaus and leines big eddy while im there. gotta make the most of every opportunity to score beer! wife wasn't too happy, but i got her brandy and bitters, so shes at least content with that

hope you enjoyed the story, cause im definitely going to enjoy the beer! just gotta decide if i want to drink the FBBB or trade it.... ;)

If there is ever a story to feel sorry for you and hate you at the same time, this would be it. Cantillon Gueze is so good.

I know so little about beer reading this thread...

Don't worry, we'll teach you well.

Also, I got to thinking this morning that anything that our Steelbook collecting friends can do, we could do as well with beer. Mobius and I have already done a trade, we could also do a group buy for something local that not everyone has access to kinda like what Splax and Horhay did with Black Tuesday, and we could also set up a Secret Drunken Santa (within the US only due to international laws).

I like where you are going with this.

I have access to Moylan's red ale (never tried) and then Moylan's Black and orange which I LOVE ...

i have access to all WI goodness, and semi access to MN since my sister lives there.

the city of milwaukee itself is just full of average breweries IMO, sprecher might be the best. but new glarus and central waters beer is easily accessible here

i could also get surly brews every once in awhile

Sounds like there's some interest in this. :naughty: All sound really good.

I've got access to Schlafly, O'Fallon, 2nd Shift, Perennial, and several other quality breweries. Both 2nd Shift and Perennial just started bottling.

I'm trying to track down a bottle of Goose Island Bourbon County Vanilla this year. I was considering driving down to Chicago for the release of King Henry, cause they are also selling bottles of '10 Vanilla, but it was just too much driving, and we have to drive back to northern WI for Thanksgiving that same day.

Just thought I'd post here so you guys can wish me luck, cause I'm gonna need a lot of it to track one of these rare boys down ;)
