In all fairness it's probably down to Scanavo rather than the retailers.
I just don't think the US factory is sufficiently prepped or experience in making Steelbooks, at least not to Japanese standards. The chips appear to be in the same areas which suggests there is an issue with the machinery or the the guy operating it. The quality control seems to have gone for shite. Reminds me of the American Car industry of the 70's and 80's, nice from a distance, but on closer inspection WTF.

That would seem to make a bit of sense. Isn't the US factory relatively new when compared to those in other countries? I wonder if its just not set up to the level of say those in Europe or Asia. I noticed lots of small flecks which look like dirt or tiny pieces of cardboard for paper or something which suggests that the cleanliness/ ISO standard is not up to par. Hoping they can change that since it seems more and more Steels are being released in the US. Just need a bit more quality out here. :)

Got into Nashville today around 5PM, saw a Target next to my hotel, stopped in around 6 and saw this and found several copies with small paint chips:

Ok maybe people here are not up on steelbooks, I thought. Well, went out to dinner and then headed back to the same Target store to chat with the store manager and boom! No more copies were left - all sold out in a mere 75 minutes! I would have taken another picture but left my phone in the car in my haste. He said every Target exclusive sells like hot cakes in his store especially steelbooks and he hopes Target gets more movie titles in steelbook as his customers favor them over amarays. The US market is primed for steelbooks as evident by the upcoming WB wave and the appetite for this title :scat:

Wow, that's odd. Wonder why they sold out so fast at 5pm after sitting around all day? Had they just put them out? Whatever the reason, I'm glad to hear of such an appetite for Steels by folks in the US. We need more of them. :)

And FWIW, I think the SteelBook looks great; dig the cover artwork and that it has full rear art and inside art, just the QC is a bummer.

I don't know, maybe everyone is working all day, and gets off around 4-5 PM? Thats really good to hear that the U.S is getting in on the act. All these crazy prices steels are fetching is without any, or very limited exposure down there in the good ole U.S.A.

It would have to be from a case with multiple discs - I'm not sure if anyone has tried the insert for a multi-disc amaray release.

I thought about amaray but I didn't try, I'll will as soon as I get home later on! On another note I watched this film for second time around since Thuesday and I must tell you guys this is the QT most enjoyable movie I ever seen since PF!

I just received my copy of Django Unchained in the mail and tried to insert a tray from a multi-disc amaray, but unfortunately it doesn't line up correctly.

Not really that happy with the Target shipping, there were a couple of small dents in the steelbook (that I didn't see until I opened it) and some paint missing. Part of it is shipping practices, but it just doesn't seem like these are either manufactured to the highest level or quality control is low when packaging (there was some paint missing inside by the opening, away from any pressure points.) On the bright side, the artwork on the back looks great.

It's funny how much everyone has whined about paint chips. Really would you rather have a best buy exclusive that is sold out instantly like zero dark thirty or this where you can walk into the store and actually find copies.

So true ... later this year will be crazy ... there will be a big influx of new USA collectors coming on board.

Even if soem of these steels arent the premium awesomes ones we want. (tho ZDT was) it is still brand awareness in the USA and we have more retail stores then any other Country so there is a huge potential of lots more collectors coming on board ....

and then supply and demand ... everyone's collections value will rise. ;)

Got mine in the mail today and think it looks pretty sweet, love the back. Could've been better if it was glossy but still pretty cool looking.

Zero Dark Thirty, hands down. I like the limited nature of ZDT and it was a much much better steelbook than this. I hear what you are saying though. It's good to be able to go in a store and get a steelbook no problem. That's what makes a title like ZDT that more special though ;)

Yeah ZDT was my first steel and I now feel very fortunate to have one. It's cool knowing you have something so limited.

Quite easily one of the most captivating 2.75 hrs I have seen. Opened my steel and watched this. Stunning movie IMO.

I just got done watching it for the first time. Yeah, it was entertaining, but I'm not gonna go as far as saying what you did lol

Glad you enjoyed it. Definitely glad I picked up the steel

website link does not work or its only me??

Looks like Target.com has taken down every Django Unchained release - DVD, amaray Blu-ray and steelbook. Anyone heard any news about Target doing this?

Even the link for the steelbook in my order reverts back to the home page. This could be big news if Target is forced to pull all copies of Django Unchained.

Why would they pull them? Is it the content of the movie? :dunno:

Not sure, but will search again in the morning since this is past midnight central time and possibly they are doing some background system work. I just searched for Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Saw Trilogy, Kill Bill, etc with similar type of content and they are all still available on the site. Something is up with Django Unchained from Target so hold on to your copies as this one might become quite a collectible if it is indeed recalled or stopped by Target.
