I got mine today and I'm pretty pleased. A couple of small chips, but nothing that could be done since you can't see them until you unwrap it. I like the matte finish as well. Overall, I'm happy with this being my very first steelbook.

Welcome to the party :)

Welcome KilloWertz and congratulations on your first Steelbook purchase!

I agree that they're an eyesore but I've had bad experiences with finding dents underneath the J-card, so I find it unsettling when they place security tags or globs of glue between the J-card and the back of the Steelboook. The best solution I've seen in practice was where the security tag was placed on a small piece of paper and slipped inside the case, allowing the buyer to simply pitch the piece of paper after opening. I wish this was a more common practice if they're going to include security tags.

Totally agree with this.

So i guess I'm not the only one who couldn't find a copy without paint chips or scratches? I spent 40 minutes in Target to find the least chipped steelbook only to find a nice scratch I overlooked after removing the wrap :(

It was the same with the Bourne movies...I hope Target doesn't get anymore exclusives in the future.

i guess i'm the ignorant steelbook shopper, as i didn't consider scratches under shrinkwrap, especially since they were protected in a plastic case. but.....

upon further review, the couple i got have like 3 scratches going down the front of the books. they're still in shrink wrap, so i held them in the light to make and moved the sw around with my finger to see if the marks moved too and they, sadly, did not.

more than likely i'll wait for the ones i ordered to arrive, and if those are pristine i'll just return these. odd since i got these worried about the condition of the ones i ordered, but it seems most people are getting them mint. i'll hang out hope till the 23rd. pretty bogus they don't take better care of something that is obviously a collectable. schmucks.

I found scratches on the back cover art of both that I picked up. So don't feel bad, my store had more chips than Lays as well.

Can anyone let me know if it is embossed or not? If it is then i will keep my UK steel on order but if not i think i'm gonna pick up the FS version off ebay or something cus i prefer the back art...

Emailed Target to see if I could get a price adjustment as their site did not automatically adjust the price from $26.99 to the $22.99 sale price. Basically was told to get stuffed since I preordered it more than 7 days ago they wouldn't adjust the price. **** Target.

Try this if you are close to a store - return the online order and then ask to buy them back at the lower store price. It worked for me once on the Bourne steelbooks. Good luck!

In all fairness it's probably down to Scanavo rather than the retailers.
I just don't think the US factory is sufficiently prepped or experience in making Steelbooks, at least not to Japanese standards. The chips appear to be in the same areas which suggests there is an issue with the machinery or the the guy operating it. The quality control seems to have gone for shite. Reminds me of the American Car industry of the 70's and 80's, nice from a distance, but on closer inspection WTF.

It hasn't arrived yet. I'd imagine I'll get it in a few days but the tracking said it may not be until Monday. By that time the sale will be over. May just go buy one and then return the one that comes in the mail. Pain in the butt though as the closest Target is about 30 minutes away.

I preordered two of these from Target.com when they first went up. Both arrived on Monday in good condition. I wanted to get a price adjustment since i paid $26.99, but they wouldn't do it. So I decided to buy two more in store and just return the online ones.

When I had them side by side I noticed the ones I ordered online were slightly different from the store bought ones. The online purchased ones did not have the Target exclusive and Ultraviolet stickers. Also, the UPC was different.

From a collectors standpoint is it worth keeping one of these online versions? I'm guessing not since it's missing stuff, but I wanted to know other people's thoughts before I returned them tonight.

Yikes... so this one is different from Futureshop's Django Steelbook?

The UK release is more closer in terms of artwork (in fact pretty much identical) to the US Target release than FS. FS has completely different back and inside art (comic theme across) and slightly modified version of the front artwork (no borders) to the US release.

Got into Nashville today around 5PM, saw a Target next to my hotel, stopped in around 6 and saw this and found several copies with small paint chips:

Ok maybe people here are not up on steelbooks, I thought. Well, went out to dinner and then headed back to the same Target store to chat with the store manager and boom! No more copies were left - all sold out in a mere 75 minutes! I would have taken another picture but left my phone in the car in my haste. He said every Target exclusive sells like hot cakes in his store especially steelbooks and he hopes Target gets more movie titles in steelbook as his customers favor them over amarays. The US market is primed for steelbooks as evident by the upcoming WB wave and the appetite for this title :scat:
