Not the same as every business. If I have a problem say with say amazon. They answer reply and deal with it. Zavvi customer service stinks. Most companies worth their salt will develop, grow respond to customer needs. Zavvi just don't want to know. One of the biggest complaints for example I Hear is someone wanting to change their card details for whatever reason in an order with zavvi. You can't do it. You have to cancel and reorder if it's still available. And so on and so....... The list is endless

I agree with all of the above, but the original comment I was replying to was in regards to the products not the service.

The implication was, that because this was a Zavvi release it would have nothing more than a J-card and a disc to go with the steelbook. But the fact is, that's the standard and it makes no difference what retailer you buy from, they have no control over the product. AFAIK, BBC steelbooks only have J-cards as a rule (Doctor Who series 9 was an exception) so that's what this will have I imagine.

Unfortunately, Zavvi's poor customer service means they get flak for everything steelbook related even when it's nothing to do with them. Just look at the comments about title-less Disney releases. They please no one, but it's the vitriol aimed at Zavvi rather than Disney that annoys me. There seems to be a belief that Zavvi stock low quality steels, whereas the truth is, they release exclusives from companies that don't really care. Even when they do try something different like the Marvel lenti re-releases they get abuse because the lenti isn't amazing.

Anyway, I'm still looking forward to this release as it will go nicely with series 9 and will be my 4th Doctor Who steelbook along with Doctor Who and the Daleks and Daleks: Invasion Earth - 2150AD.

Ignore the Sold Out for now
This happens with Zavvi when release date arrives and it's not in stock yet their system sometimes lists as sold out
As soon as Zavvi get the stock or get an updated release date it will reappear as available

They should have stock. It's releasing today.

Not if they don't have the actual delivery of the stock yet

This happens a few times when stock does not arrive can be release date change not put on the system or late delivery they list it as sold out when the release date as arrived
It's not the first time it has happened it has happened a few times before
Sometimes it's a release date change that needs updating and then it shows back available to pre order

Just because you see a release date on Zavvi or Amazon that does not mean your order will be despatched for release date that can only happen when they get actual delivery of the stock

When they get actual delivery of stock after pre orders are shipped they then re list as buy now if stock still available
Second sight releases and a few other distributors releases it happens every time when they don't have the actual stock for the listed release date the listing goes to sold out and only after they get delivery and start despatching it changes to buy now and listed as in stock

They will despatch customers pre orders when they get delivery and then after that re list as available if stock is still available

They have done the same with peaky blinders steelbook it now showing sold out you can expect the same happen later today or tomorrow with Luther Steelbook until they update the system to show a new release date or get actual delivery

Not every distributor delivers stock to Zavvi for release date on time sometimes they are late or other reasons

If they don't deliver on time, then they deserve to go bust for not being reliable. Zavvi should use companies that are actually going to stick to their promises rather than let everybody down.

I imagine there's been a production delay, rather than there being a tonne of stock sitting in a warehouse just waiting to be collected.

There's no release date showing on Zavvi's website, only the one at the top of this thread. So technically they don't have to send it out, although an email with a new estimate would be nice (remember the Indiana Jones delay? Over a year). Even if it is today, as long as it was posted today then they've kept up their end of the deal. We're so used to receiving things early, it's easy to get annoyed when things are late. Remember, it's a release date, not an arrival date.

When I worked for Blockbuster, we had these issues all the time. Some distributors would get us their titles a week or so in advance, others (usually Disney) insisted we received it on release day. That meant 9 times out of 10, you'd have to wait 'til midday before you could rent or buy it from us (we had to process it) which would annoy some customers - rightly so.

The BBC are still new to the steelbook game, so let's wait and see if they get better.

I doubt it's the BBC at fault, more likely the company making the steelbook casing. If it's delayed by a year, I'll probably cancel my order and send Zavvi a complaint.

What you really mean is, their crappy system just cannot cope when faced with this type of situation!

Yes :rofl::giggle::LOL:
I has happened before a number of times
Sometimes it's just the release date not updated on their system and when release date arrives it goes to no release date and with no actual stock on their system because it's not been delivered it gets listed as sold out usually on release date or the next couple of days after

Sometimes it's only for a few days it remains as sold out until they get the actual stock or they update website listing release date if it's been changed

If the stock is expected soon the listing should change when they get the stock or we will see a new release date appear if it's been changed

Smaller operation film distributors often have release date delivery delays

BBC releases in the UK are distributed by 2 Entertain Video

It happens on Amazon as well but not as often

It of course can be because of other reasons a delay but at the moment I not heard anything yet to say not getting released

BBC have had some changes recently with the closure of the UK BBC on-line store so 2 Entertain Video might have some delays due to this but that's just me guessing for a reason for a delay

When someone posts they had their debit card charged that's when it will be known for sure they have the stock

Actually, they haven't been for a while. I think it's now either BBC Enterprises of BBC Worldwide.

When 2|entertain stopped, the DVD releases gave the option of double-sided covers with the new purple logo on the retail side but the old 2|entertain logo on the reverse so collectors could maintain consistency. They even left the BBFC certificates off the spine on the reverse side (DVDs and Blu-rays don't actually need them by law - the spines are too thin) but put them on the retail side.

From the 2|entertain website (http://www.2entertain.co.uk/):

"Originally formed in September 2004, 2entertain Ltd is now fully integrated into BBC Worldwide’s Consumer Products division. 2entertain will remain a label for non BBC product and continue to distribute content from some of the UK’s top independent producers, broadcasters and leading talent. For further information on the BBC Worldwide Consumer Products please follow the link - http://www.bbcworldwide.com/consumer-products.aspx."

Unfortunately that's always been the case with Zavvi - they never email customers to advise them of a change in release date.

I have given them this feedback on numerous occasions, but to no avail.
That's crazy. You'd think they'd listen to customer feedback.

Which is basically what I said.

BBC titles, ie: Doctor Who, Luther, Sherlock etc. are released by BBCWW Consumer Products, which were once released by 2|entertain (at the time a separate company) but they were bought out by/folded into BBCWW. As such, only non-BBC titles carry the 2|entertainment logo and are distributed by them independently of BBCWW (they released the original edition of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me for example). A bit like how CIC Video only released titles from Universal and Paramount on VHS. Paramount founded their own distribution label but Universal stayed with CIC longer before they too founded Universal Home Entertainment.

2entertain is part of BBC worldwide
They are a publishing and distribution company owned by the BBC

They distribute BBC productions and non BBC productions

The BBC production releases use BBC logo now instead of 2entertain logo but have on the back cover of releases BBC Worldwide Ltd distributed under licence by 2entertain video Ltd
Non BBC productions use 2entertain logo

Their address is
BBC Worldwide
33 Foley Street
LONDON
W1W 7TL

The back cover of recent BBC releases like Sherlock The Abominable Bride and Doctor Who Series 9
have BBC Worldwide Ltd distributed under licence by 2entertain video Ltd and packaging design 2entertain video ltd
