Not even one year after it launched, Facebook Lite has been axed by the company. According to ReadWriteWeb, a status update on Facebook's official profile announced the end of Facebook Lite, which was a slimmer version of the site meant for dial-up users and people in third-world countries where reliable Internet connections are hard to find. Users could still write on each others' walls, share photos and post status updates with Lite. Essentially, it was just Facebook without the applications. Anybody who tries to use Lite will now be redirected to Facebook's main homepage. Other than thanking users for trying what it called a "test" of a stripped-down site, Facebook didn't offer any details as to why it is closing down Lite. Nonetheless, it's troubling news for the masses who still don't have broadband access.

If you'll remember back to last September, Lite was even being called a challenger to Twitter. Now, it's just another casualty, making us wonder what the future holds for Facebook Zero -- a text-only version of the social networking site. Could it become grounded before it's even launched? For now, we'll have to wait and see.

I liked the light version. I always forgot to use it though. oops. It was just really clean without all the clutter. Oh well.
