Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

hello everyone. i'm thinking about ordering Metropolis from The Hut. has anyone got any experience (good and bad) ordering from them? they offer free shipping everywhere, aite? how about the packaging quality?

This is no longer available. I check that site everyday. I have ordered from them with no problems. On another post somebody stated they believed they were part of Sony's fire. And the steel is OOP. I wanted to get this as well.

Not sure where to put this but think worthy of note. Had package arrive from Amazon.de with 3 Steels inside (titles irrelevant but admit cheap ones). Standard cardboard outer, inside each steel INDIVIDUALLY wrapped in cardboard shipper with Barcode sticker for picking on outside of that. Usual tear-off on cardboard, shrink wrapped steelbook further wrapped in paper inside that. 10 out 10 Amazon - you've been listening.

Some posts moved to this thread. Great news guys-hopefully it means Amazon.de and other Amazon sites are listening to our feedback:)

I ordered from Amazon.de to here in the States, and had no delivery issues, other than it taking about 3 1/2 weeks to arrive. It was DHL since it was the economy deliver for 14 Euro. Although, it was awesome that the shipping rate stays the same no matter how many items you buy, so I bought a bulk of 14 SBs. Although, when i got the order, about 6 were loose (which didn't bother me too much since i open them anyway), and 2 were damaged. One was just a small ding, which i didn't notice until after i opened, but it doesn't bother me too much. The other was a Judge Dredd - bent at 2 places. I did a return through Amazon.de with no problems either. I did loose money on the deal since it cost me $9 to ship back to them, and they only refund a proportional amount of shipping based on your original order. So do the math first before returning. I guess this would be based on your order and how many were damaged. Wreck had given me the idea too of just contacting them, and they would most likely ship a replacement free of charge. I'll have to try that next time this happens (but hopefully it won't)

Thanks, Antman! I moved your post here, as many folks in the Steelbook and Limited Ed area probably shop at Play, so they may like to read this.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I also got some Steels from Amazon.de over the last week or so, and they were double packaged in cardboard (small cardboard slips over the Steelbooks, and then packed again in a larger sleeve. Not in a large "box" with bubble wrap as some retailers do, but still better than it was. Hopefully it stays this way:)

Not sure if this was discussed, but has anyone from US ordered from Amazon.it? I only ask because some items say they will ship separately. Why is this and is this actually the case? Will they charge extra?

Shipping in the original packaging
This item ships separately (if included in an order with multiple items) and the manufacturer's original packaging. In order not to reveal the contents of the shipment can choose gift wrapping for the product.

I have ordered numerous steels from Amazon.ca, Amazon.com & HMV-UK. Although I would consider their packaging "less than desireable", I guess I've been lucky. I've only had one occasion where a case was damaged & Amazon.ca replaced it quickly with no questions asked.

maybe it depends on where they're shipped the items. I'm in Jakarta, Indonesia.
my last order from amazon.uk are Scarface & Hanna. They come in one A2 cardboard, with nothing to protect the steels. but i'm lucky these two came out dent-free :D

amazon.de shipped with bubble envelope, same as amazon.ca, but at that time, ca was on a post strike, so they sent it by DHL. haven't tried the standard shipping, though

Random Steelbook Question

So I was sitting there and randomly started wondering if these so-called scratch removal creams that are used for cars can be used to remove scratches on steelbooks. Obviously, this takes into account that these creams actually do work. If they did, I'm wondering if they could be used to fix small scratches. Anywho, just a thought. What do you guys think? :D

LOL, this is a new one-thanks for posting! I am not sure what the chemical composition is of those creams, but perhaps car paint is more durable than Steelbook paint,in the sense that there are probably multiple layers/laquers, etc used on cars. The cream takes that process on cars into consideration, since when you use it, the car paint does not come off. But putting the cream on something that may not have been treated the same, in terms of the paint job on the Steelbook may lead to detrimental effects.

Or, you've just come up with a way to save our Steelbooks!:)

Maybe you can try it, and post a Youtube video of what happened? :hilarious:

Hey Vivaperu. Thanks for posting. I moved your thread over to the collectors lounge, as it fits right in here. :D

:DThanks for the move! Random thought I know. I thought about it but your whole explanation there kinda scared me a bit lol. Maybe I could try it on a spare steelbook I have but I don't have any I don't want!:D

I would definitely stay away from using those kind of creams on steelbooks. Car finishes have primer coats, clear coats and then paint. Steelbooks probably don't have that many layers of coating and you may damage the steelbooks even further. Maybe not a bad idea to try it on a 'spare' steelbook ;)
