Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I am curious as to what you guys do with the backer cards that come with most SB's. Do you throw them out? Do you fold them and stick them inside the SB? or what?

I always try to keep them, but most of the time they do not fit inside the SB, so I end up folding it in half and sticking it in there, just wondering if theres a better way, or maybe I should just store them seperatly. But I would be afraid of losing or getting misplaced.

I heard others get a small binder and throw them in. I got mine in a plastic small drawer thing in the closet.

Hey Stink-it's ok to ask questions again, there are always new people jumping into the fray:) I used to keep them, but now throw them out, unless it's a movie I love. Sometimes I fold them and put them inside, but I am not anal about it (keep every one, etc etc). But some people do keep them....just depends.

and I was just looking for some backer cards for older steels...any chance you have some old FS backer cards that are meant to be thrown? My very first 2 steelbooks...No Country for Old Men and Gangs of New York...I actually cut them and fit it inside the steelbook....can't we have a donation bin thread for unwanted backer cards? :naughty:

Hey JB, sorry I don't have these. But it's not a bad idea to start a thread for people who want to donate their backer cards, in the trading forum. I'll post a thread. Thanks!

Hey everyone! i am 3 days old on the forums and happy to be here! I have a question that may be silly but since I have yet to hit 30 posts I am unable to answer it myself and am very curious about it. When I am finally able to trade with others, what are my chances of being able to get any of the older released steelbooks from say, a year ago and so on? I am just curious about it because I have been collecting Steelbooks for not so long now (Just USA releases) and was not even aware that other countries would have different versions of them. Now I want to collect as many as I possibly can! lol

Oh I remember when I started I made sure it was playable in my region A player. I hardly ever open them anyway so I figure I start collecting anything that looks like good art.

BTW I opened a steel tonight. Opened and watched Kick ASS(DE). I was proud of myself. :D

Hey Jida-generally older Steels will cost a bit more(depends on title), and some are really expensive. But there are many people here with trade threads, so at least you'll have choices. And if you become an ongoing member of the community, you'll make friends who will help you, and you can join group buys to get titles you'd otherwise not be able to get easily. Feel free to PM anytime with questions.Keep posting and contributing-welcome to the site again! :scat:

We all had to start somewhere!

check out my trade thread, I usually have some titles for pretty cheap. Well, they are cheaper then you trying to order them on your own.

You can obtain a lot of oldies by the way, there's just a good few that are extremely rare and thus very expensive.

Retailer Packaging gone mad!

Just recieved this for 2 steelbook from Amazon UK!

Hi OS,

Thanks for your post:)

Since you are fairly new to this site, here is how info is organized here for 'Steelbooks'. Our forum is very active, so it's important info is 'filed' so it can be found again later.

1) Our threads with info that is asked or discussed 'frequently' is 'stickied' at the top of the main Steelbook forum. Here you can find info on modifying Steelbooks, important votes, the popular 'Last Steelbook purchased' thread, etc.

2) Any shopping or trading-related threads are in the 'Steelbook Trading Area'. Here you can also find info related to Retailers, Finding a specific Steelbook, etc etc.

We're happy to help you anytime-simply PM myself, apsmith21, darczap or justintime2k if you have questions about the site. Our mods and staff work consistently to try to make sure information is in the proper area of the forum-otherwise info tends to get lost, or duplicated.

We hope you stay and explore the site, and ask questions when you have them.

Enjoy!:scat:
