So yeah, I was surprised their was no topic on this one ... it's the holy grail of all things SteelBook. (least, blu-ray steelbook that is.)

Its been sold for $500 and 300 euros just for the empty case alone. Super rare, thought to have been limited to only 2,000 copies.

And this last pic which is nicely laid out came compliments of Tiger, a hardcore collector :)

This is definitely a grail. It took me a huge trade to even get it. At the time I got it was like trying to find Bigfoot. Same with alot of grails. Some of them aren't necessarily the most beautiful steels, but they are like old cars, old collectibles.....they can be very hard to find and ma y of these harder to find steels have To be in some collectors' collections. I didn't consider my collection complete at the time (a few years ago) until I had Iron Man FS, Wanted debossed German, Rambo German, Romeo & Juliet Iron Pack, Moulin Rouge Iron Pack, Inglorious Basterds FS, and a few others like Death Race debossed German, Hellboy II debossed German, Zimmer 1408, Star Trek FS or UK, etc. Those were the must haves for any serious steelbook collector. You just had to have them or your collection was lacking. Some of them were extremely hard to find or at least get due to high prices. I actually pretty much stopped collcting after getting my ha ds on most of those hard to find/rare Grails because I was so worn out getting there, it was amazing, but tiring at the same time. I looked at it as some type of an awesome challenge. It meant something to have those in your collection. I saw an Iron Man FS go for less than $100 yesterday. It wasn't mint, but dang, If I didn't have that already I would've snatched that up so quick. You just gotta have taone in your collction even if not mint.

ALso, those blu banners used to look so good. I still think they do. Something about it just adds to those older steels.
It's the burning bush phenomenon. If God spoke to me from a burning bush I sure as hell would uproot that bush and take it with me as my most prized collectible even though the bush itself might be as ugly as sin, all burnt and all. The steelbook gods spoke to a lot of collectors through this steelbook and they became converts.

Just to stop confusion I never said it's not a Grail

Thunda- personally I don't think my collection is lacking without any of those and I don't feel I have to have them. But I get why yourself and others like them from one collector to another.
Also my main pet hate is printed backs and blue banners so that's why I don't get why some steels that have those are grails but obviously more people like printed backs and blue banners than I anticipated.
Which I'm not complaining about. We all have our own tastes and preferences

Nafosb - I understand what you mean but again going back to my pet hate I mention it wouldn't necessarily speak to me although again as I've said I do like the front to this one and would possibly make the exception at the right time maybe (plus i love the red blood on the arm) but I'm in no rush
I also have things I consider my most prized possessions/ collectables even if no one else likes them lol

I was watching that also :watch: On my dream "wants" list :drool: Suddenly shot up from £300 to £620 in the last few seconds! :OMG: Funny a zero rated bidder won it though... Hmmm :cautious:

I consider a true sealed mint John Rambo with the correct stickers and seal as one the all time classic Grail steelbooks.
It was at the time, I think sometime in 2012 or 2013, it reached the highest ever price for a steelbook sold on Auction eBay for £1,000. It was purchased by a legitimate buyer who left feedback, when at the time on eBay you can see the buyer's ebay name.

The original before that was Iron Man Future Shop which reached $1,000 on auction in 2011 or 2012.

JR has now been surpassed by Wolf FAC with a crazy £1,500 on auction.

It's very rare to get steelbooks that go for this price. It comes once and a while.

JR sealed copy is very hard to find. I think I probably only come across 5 true sealed copies in my time. Most of them are fake lol

@Mickle_89 - you are better of buying a cheap opened copy. They are relatively easy to find. It's the sealed ones which are very difficult to hunt and you don't want to spending all that extra dough on a sealed unless you turned into a crazy grail hunter :cigar:

However I do have the wonderful memories of once being a proud and privileged owner of a sealed copy :p

It´s funny when people talking about something going in 50 - 100 range as a "silly" money when you see something like this or FA´s TWOWS goes for such an amounts o_Oo_O - these are silly money! I consider paying up to 100 for something you REALLY want, like and need somehow reasonable (depends on the circumstances of course - if it´s soldout, how rare it is etc.), but paying amounts close to 1000 that´s just way out of line imho....

I think with £50 - £100 steels you are referring to are the ones you see regularly. They are not difficult to find if you want one. As we see these types of steels day in and day out, people refer it to as 'silly' money because no one likes to pay more than cost for a sold out steel!

But with grails, they are grails for a reason. And as a grail, collectors will respect this and are willing to fork out loads of money for it. It's no different from any collectible hobby, such as figurines, toys, statues etc. Everone's different mate. Some people like to own something very limited and rare that a majority don't own. They will have to fork out the dough for it obviously lol ;) It's what makes you happy. The basic supply vs demand. Hard to hunt expect to pay the crazy price tag. If they are floating everywhere everyone's going to blame scalpers and 'silly' money.

Like I said, it's rare to find these type of steels that sell for crazy price. Anything is possible. Just a question of when it happens.

Still prefer Snow White & The Huntsman Swarovski Edition as the ultimate grail.

If ever there was a bidding war for that who knows what it would reach.

Not that i doubt you, but how do you know it's a fake?

If you look at the photo of a copy I once owned, that was a true sealed copy.
  • A true sealed copy has to have the two stickers.
  • The shrink wrap where you peel it off it has to say the blu-ray small writing on there between the narrow peel off lines. That blue sticker has to be stuck on it.
  • The stickers are hard to peel off so if you see them damaged on the edges then you know it's restuck on.
  • The shrink wrap on the top and bottom has a specific folding pattern and looks worn out.

If it does NOT fit ALL of those criteria it's fake.
