Some things are too easy....

Again, its a movie and a steelbook nobody cared about, UNTIL it sold out - then all of a sudden it is another holy grail. Happened about 10 times last year with play.com steelbooks.

If it would be back in stock now for a week, people would start moaning and cursing play.com again and nobody would buy it anymore because it completely lost its appeal (rarity). Seriously, you could copy/paste the comments from this thread and put them in the Battle Royale thread...I wonder why so many old-school collector's are giving up the game right now...

Never seen a bunch of grown men throw a hissy fit so quickly over a metal case with a disc inside it :hilarious:

So this is no longer a Play exclusive and cannot be classed as such. The last Play exclusive honour now goes to the MI releases which haven't sold out and will probably end up somewhere else aswell.

FYI - play.com has all the paramount steels in their warehouse - so they won't be going anywhere unless they don't sell out by March.

Sucker Punch Comic Con was not 900 like many like to think/believe. Doesnt 900 sound odd? It was 1,000. That gave WB some qty to either use for promotional purposes, give-away to employees, cover damages.

Lawless showing up on zaavi doesnt spook me one bit. I've been told by a reliable source that their estimated quantity is something in regards to same nature. Don't expect the steels on zaavi to last long.

My guess .... a week or less given the qty i was told.

Given their small qty, you should look at zaavi's qty like a reseller no different then someone having a decent number to sell on ebay ....

I'm not complaining that zavvi has the rest of batch...but...

I hate the fact that I paid €1 too much !

:p.

Interesting to see if this is correct.
My view was that play might have agreed to tear up the exclusive contract which, in turn, has allowed the publishers to print a load more.
But I sincerely hope that what you have been told this time is true.
Quite why play.com would allow Zavvi (a main competitor) to simply have some of these when they where selling quickly seems inconceivable.

How is it inconceivable when your busy firing all your employees in the warehouse? Someone has to ship them ....

The profit margin made on steelbooks for Play is not as huge as one may think. Didnt everyone love the cheap prices? It's not in their interest to try and keep thousands and thousands of stock of steelbooks for a remaining 2 months when they are losing countless employees and hands who would be needed to help ship.

Also this is not a cheap steel to produce ... debossing on each side is not one flat fee ... you pay for each side. There are a lot of little premiums on this steel that make it at the higher end to produce. If some other retailer is going to try and reprint any steel they would be latching on to 4k qty min and if they were to take that risk it'd most likely be of a cheaper producing steel.

How many times has Hellboy 2 or Death Race been redone around the world? A whole hell of a lot ... but no one has done it as nice as the originals from Germany ... that's because its easier to sell a steelbook at initial home video release while their's still marketing buzz and they can take the risk of making a nicer more costlier steelbook.

Because play doesn't take all of the stock from the distributor to begin with, as that cuts into warehouse space.

This has been spoken about at length in a few other threads, and in addition, Zavvi and Play don't really compete anymore. As also mentioned, if Play is not taking the remainder of stock due to company policy, the distributor has to sell them somewhere.

Finally, if you think that they can "whip up" another 4,000 copies in a week or so after the exclusive contract was "torn up" - perhaps you should reflect on how manufacturing works - including "getting on the schedule" to get your item "created".

Take it for what you will, but speculation on items presented as fact does nothing good for the new members of this forum.

Well for peace of mind, you got better packaging and now that these are changing more hands they are prone to more damage ;)

I'd agree, I'd rather pay a little more for careful packaging and selection than have to deal with the hassle of a return when there's a boot print in my copy because someone stepped on the jiffy bag. lol. :oohyeah:

"Gaps" in manufacturing occur all the time. And if design is already completed and things are good to go then it could totally happen.
As i stated in my post, I'm interested to see what happens.
I.e - how quickly Zavvi sell out.
The facts will tell the story as it is.
And again, I sincerely hope there are only just a few more.
Since more Steelbook manufacturing facilities have been setup, the quality of steels in terms of exclusivity has seriously deteriorated.

If this is a "fact" then great, perfect. It will help the scene, not harm it.
But this so called fact, has not yet been proven.

I really don't get people moaning about it appearing on Zavvi. It's not all about price.

I'm glad I ordered from Play and they delivered it in their excellent packaging.

If you order from Zavvi (at 10% off at the most), it's going to be a jiffy bag allowing Royal Mail to go medieval on it.

Good luck getting a mint copy. :p

If you can cast your minds back to when pre-release OOS Steels suddenly became available on play once they had an idea of any QC problems or similar after release date, and then how quickly they disappeared, you'll see the sort of volumes you're talking about. Not many.

I dont see the problem, at the end of the day its no different from the many £10 Play.com exclusives that have sold out, only to return on 'playtrade' for £30 and more, at least this is a £15 steelbook thats now available from another source .....for £15

Yes you can, here:

I think this is a terrible steelbook with a rubbish design. Debossing or not it's dissapointing play went out with this steelbook, and an even greater shame that it's not even an exclusive anymore.

Great cast though.

Interesting. Describe to me why it's a 'rubbish' design? What makes you think this is not an exclusive?
