Hey Harper, welcome to the site. It's really a personal choice-both designs offer something different. Just FYI-the Canada version is not a Steelbook and the Steelbook does offer some pretty unique debossing on its cover. Good luck deciding!

Well the steelbook is off a better quality than the viva metal packaging steelbook is also getting rare if you got the money get the steelbook if you on a budget get the canadian Metal Packaging

That's rubbish. I have both and to tell you the truth, SteelBook's quality has been declining this past year.

They are both solid products. The Future Shop Metal Box is more glossy and simplistic in design. The Asian Steelbook (WoodBook?) has a more earthy natural look.

One has DMR points and the other has multiple Asian language tracks with superb dubbing. Both are winners.

One has the same art on both the front AND the back .... that's beyond simplistic, it's called lazy.

I dunno Chip. Being that I have seen pretty much every viva released ever first hand they are pretty nice. Im not sure why there so much hate on them. If you ask me a lot of the viva's are heck of a lot nicer then many steel books out there including some on the list above IMO. While I prefer a proper steelbook release any day the viva's have great artwork front, back and inside where you can tell someone took the time to actually put some thought into making it. The most disappointing viva without a doubt though is Lion King. This asian release steel book which I have smokes the viva though for sure.

Just an observation I have made. To me a lot of steelbooks look like no thought or effort went into them whereas most if not all ironpacks, viva, metalpak's, etc. look like someone actually put the time into designing a creative product.

I just wanted to provide an update for the known defect on this Taiwan release (as well as the HK, Macau and Thailand releases).

Firstly, China are claiming that because of the bad workmanship they redid and improved this release (although China's new slipcover is definitely worse in its matching with the texture of the steelbook). Ref: http://blufans.com/discreport-3985.html.

I'd like to share that I've just received a newer TW steelbook and as it turns out not all of the steelbooks in Taiwan had bad workmanship. First pic below: my old TW copy on the left with the paint chip and messed up bottom part of the spine that hasn't been closed up properly. Note that my older copy on the left is in shrinkwrap while the newer copy on the right is in a wrap that has machine folded off ends.

Second pic: The slipcover on the newer (top) steelbook is more rounded off and matches the rounding off of the steelbook, so the corners of the slipcover are less prone to bashing in and doggy ears.

Third pic: Bottom of the steelbook on the old copy is not as even. Its hard to photo the difference, but the old copy (top) has a bigger gap in certain parts of the split and other points where the two faces are touching. The gap is uniform all the way in the new copy (bottom).

Fourth pic: You can see the difference in slip cover sizes (top=old, bottom=new).

Fifth, sixth and seventh pic: The bottom part of the front face of the old copy (5th pic top + 6th pic) was not even flat (notice the gap where you can see the background?). This is fixed in my newer non-shrinkwrapped copy (7th pic).

the pic that shows the gap when laying flat can be totally isolated incident as it has ntohing to do with the printing of the steelbook but yet the case in hand that got printed. Most those so called defects seem extremely minimal. *shrug* I own 2 diff Lion King steels TW and HK i think ... both seem good enough for me.

I applaud your attention to detail tho, but I presume to each their own ... unless every single one had that bent like formation ...
