Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play, with at least three factions being considered for inclusion; including American, European and Middle Eastern factions.

The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes. The game will boast numerous classes for players to specialize in; including medics, commandos and field demolition specialists. It has not been announced if the game will be a third person shooter, like Zipper's previous SOCOM games, or a first person shooter.

MAG: Massive Action Game is the tentative name for an upcoming MMO shooter exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in development by Zipper Interactive. The game was announced at Sony's E3 2008 press conference, and will be released sometime in 2009. Various subtitles are being considered for the game, including MAG: Shadow War, MAG: Zero, MAG: Global Assault and MAG: Final Hour.

A PS3 exclusive, the game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.

MAG Public Beta enrollment begins
by Andrew Yoon { Aug 12th 2009 at 1:30PM }

A lucky few individuals will discover this invite for the MAG beta in their inboxes. The e-mail includes a unique code used to access a closed application form. According to the beta enrollment page, Sony "will be adding people in waves." If you don't see an invite in your inbox right now, don't worry: you may be invited later. "If you do not receive an invite for the first wave you may still be invited in a following MAG Public Beta wave."

Sony has already conducted a closed beta for MAG for over a month. The expansion of the beta to the public gives us hope that maybe -- just maybe -- we'll be able to see MAG's 256-player online battles hitting the PS3 sooner rather than later.

no email for me :(

i had 2 in the box, but they were from other people. maybe ill get in next round.

are you guys members of GAP too, or just underground?

I am a member of GAP...

Thank you for your interest in the MAG Public Beta. If you are accepted into the MAG Public Beta you will receive an e-mail with further instructions. Please note, we will be adding people in waves and so if you do not receive an invite for the first wave you may still be invited in a following MAG Public Beta wave. Please do not register again, you only need to register once for the MAG Public Beta to be eligible for all waves of the MAG Public Beta.

MAG public beta invites getting sent out via PSN

Do you think you have what it takes to beta test Zipper Interactive’s massive 256-player shooter? You may just be in luck as emails from the PlayStation Network are being sent out for possible participation in MAG Beta.

Even if you are one of the lucky PlayStation 3 owners to get an email for MAG Beta, it does not guarantee you’ll be able to participate in this round. Public beta slots are very limited, but more will be available as the public beta process continues.

If you received the email, simply fill out a form and you will be entered in for a chance to beta test MAG, either now or in forthcoming phases of beta.

We’d love to hear if our readers received an invite. Let us know.

Edit: I know this has been posted but I bolded the reason I added this tidbit... I'd rather get nothing than a maybe... Why not just do it like fat princess and give us codes that we can use and hope that we get one. not a freaking entry into a drawing.

whats the ETA on release date for this .... is it still 09? I want this game.

the last dates i remember place it in november of this year. but to be honest, if sony was smart, they would release it in '10, as much as that would suck. MW2 will dominate shooters at the end of this year.

Your so right about that. i think some of these peoples think that if their shooter is different then it can still do just as well ... I dont see it that way ... Its hard being addicted to 2 shooters at the same time LOL esp when trying to accomplish shiznit.

There is other shooters coming out..?

2010 is already too saturated to be honest, I think most games that were moved there are going to fail from over saturation of a small time table.

Hopefully there are other games coming out other then COD because I would like to actually play some new games once in awhile.. lol

exactly. cod4 took up my entire time of gameplaying for awhile. MAG would just sit, maybe even unwrapped, on my shelves till after christmas anyways.

id maybe throw it in for an hour or so to see what it was like...

i think there were, but most of them pushed back to 2010 (ala bioshock, and who knows maybe even BFBC2)

2009 was too saturated before a lot the games got pushed back to 2010. its a good thing when we lose a bunch of titles to 2010 and still have a stacked lineup for the rest of 2009!:scat:
