Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play, with at least three factions being considered for inclusion; including American, European and Middle Eastern factions.

The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes. The game will boast numerous classes for players to specialize in; including medics, commandos and field demolition specialists. It has not been announced if the game will be a third person shooter, like Zipper's previous SOCOM games, or a first person shooter.

MAG: Massive Action Game is the tentative name for an upcoming MMO shooter exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in development by Zipper Interactive. The game was announced at Sony's E3 2008 press conference, and will be released sometime in 2009. Various subtitles are being considered for the game, including MAG: Shadow War, MAG: Zero, MAG: Global Assault and MAG: Final Hour.

A PS3 exclusive, the game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.

i was talking in general, not just shooters.

I was being general as well, but I take note my observations may have overlooked many gems for my efforts have been concentrated over a specific game and thus I may have been blinded from more obvious games that I have neglected to notice.

I think you were blinded by the "Flash"

gotcha.

not exactly sure what type of games you are into, but for most people, Uncharted 2 is a must. GT5 is rumored to come out this year, that should be picked up by most. other big name games are ratchet, prolly not a must but should be a quality game. assassin's creed 2 as well.

and if you havent yet, check out the batman AA demo. that game should be at least worth a rental. it comes out soon! :D

so there, i saved you some research. check out those games if you havent. but operation flashpoint looks like a great game as well, i don't knock you for having a single track mind

While those will all be excellent games my plans are to rent Uncharted, im concerned about minimum replayability with that one.

Minimum Replayability = Single Player Campaign time2beat x (2 if it can be replayed online or split screen co op) + 2 hours if multiplayer + 15 hours (if mods can be loaded) + 30 hours (if map maker is provided)

So my thinking is this, 10-12 hours + 2 hours for multiplayer = 12-14 hours of playability. While an exceptional product to me those playing hours are more registered for a rental then a purchase.

Batman will be difficult, while the demo was very impressive there were several concerns.. canned animations, and as Shin-Ra said everything is super glued to the world.. and I have a feeling it will a very short game...

My feelings now no fact here tell me to expect 8-10 hours now I said feelings I might be wrong but that is what im expecting which also pegs it as a nice rental.

Gran Turismo is a great game, but racing and sports are my avoid generas..

Assassins Creed 2 while probably worth more then a rent, a rent will be needed so I can find out just how open this game is. ;)

Btw thanks for the information. :)

lol. thats quite a formula you got there. but i know where you are coming from. honestly i thought about renting uncharted 2 as well, but i feel like its just a game i will wish i have in my possession at sometime in my life.

as long as you know what works for you, then you got a great thing going for you. its hard to find out what games are worth slapping down 60 big ones for, and which are ones you should probably avoid. i almost get sucked into the madden trap every year, and have to remind myself that buying once every 3-4 is good enough for me. i bought 09 last year so count me in for either 12 or 13 on the ps4! :)

MAG dated for North America

Sony has confirmed via the official U.S. PlayStation Blog that online shooter Massive Action Game (better known as MAG) will be released in North America on January 26, 2010.

In light of this, developer Zipper Interactive and Sony America also announced that they will be hosting a special event for the game during PAX on September 4, where 200 lucky blog readers will be able go hands-on with MAG and test out a new map. The event takes place between 6:00 – 9:00 PM PST.

Be sure to visit the North American PlayStation Blog for more information on how to participate. In the meantime, feel free to check out PSU’s own impressions of MAG from E3 here.

Its a odd formula indeed but one that tends to work but it revolves around guessing the initial time which can be hard.. :p

smart thinking there.

unless there is a huge group of blu guys playing this one on day 1, ill probably wait till after that even. i could easily see myself still addicted to mw2 at that point.

Personally I think its dumb, a very large amount of games have all been delayed to that Jan 2010 timeline, any game releasing during that timeline will be suffocated from too many releases happening at the same time.
