I got the same email - I personally wouldn't read too much into their wording; they usually listed the combined 4K and 3D steelbooks as 4K exclusives

Okay folks, I talked to a local supplier in New Zealand, appears Peter Jackson and the studio have no plans to release this in 3D ANYWHERE at this time. The steelbook has just been released here and it's 4K/2D only.

My guess is the rep I spoke to doesn’t know the difference between local and international releases, even when I asked

they changed my order from steelbook to just the stupid 4K if I wanted the 4k disc I would have bought it in the States

Thanks to everyone confirming that 3d was indeed included in this - went into HMV Brighton this morning to pick up the only copy they had in stock. That's right folks only one copy they had...
