Can we get a sticky for this? :D

What do ya'll prefer to drink? Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Wine Coolers? All of them?

I only drink Beer and Hard Liquor. Mint Mojito is about the only thing close to a wine cooler I'll drink though LOL

Southern tier is now one of my favorite breweries. I've had pumking, mokah, jahva, and creme brule. All fantastic!!!!

All of those sound like flavors that I do not want in my beer!

I can't do pumpkin ales anymore.... I got food poisoning the last time I had one. I'm pretty sure it was the dinner that got me, but I still associate the taste with food poisoning and it never seems to sit well.

holy damn..

5 gallon's and 6 gallons of sweet homemade brew of Alcohol,so how long does that last you guys and do you sell any of it?!.

just a question.

It depends on what the flavor is and if my girlfriend likes it! She will annihilate half a batch of a stout or an IPA. We don't drink that often though so one batch will last for about 2 months, a few each on the weekend. I just made a barley wine on saturday and I'm hoping to save at least a few bottles of it for next winter to see how it ages.

Can't sell it, illegal to do so, but you can share it!

5 gallons will last me a few weeks. Much shorter when friends partake. I enjoy sharing the brew though, nothing more satisfactory than everyone gathering around and enjoying a good pint of your brew.

I usually brew in shifts to build up stock.. like all this month I've brewed every weekend so by the third week of october (my b-day) I'll have 20 gallons ready to tap and 15 gallons ready to transfer to kegs. I'll also have a couple batches bottled up for long term like my "imp" stout and lavender apple wine.

That usually will last me a few months and takes care of christmas presents.

I got this on its way to glass tipping glory:
House Ale (straightforward "lite" beer)
Brown Ale (Exhibit X, as I gingerly refer to it, used black patent for toffee flavor)
Oatmeal Stout (Turd Swaggler, goes down like a milk chocolate beer)
Peach Wheat Ale
Apple Wine
Pumpkin Ale

and i wonder how much the share ticket passes cost? :) jk.

your own personal Oktoberfest, that's a lot of Liquid fun for personal use & friends....a lot of friends.

lol, yeah they cost about $50 a cup, that will help cover the repairs when the ATF kicks in your front door for sellin homebrew booze

That moose drool is good stuff, I really like their trout slayer ale, too.

I had a thumpin' weekend... I made atomic chickenwings at 2am and apparently passed out until 6am when the wife kicked me awake to tell me to goto bed.

I'm pretty sure it was the 3 or 4 beers I had to chug to take the blistering burning sensation out of my mouth/lips that made me pass out. Those things were insane. Siracha and Cayenne pepper with a little bit of dehydrated honey... don't know why I thought that would make it better.. it was insane. Tasted good though... my ass would not agree.

Fare for last week was Samuel Smith's IPA, Bob's 47 Oktoberfest (boulevard brewery), St Peter's cream stout, Lion Stout, and South Hampton Pumpkin Ale, my House Cream Ale and Lavender Apple Cider. With a bit of Miller Lite mixed in while I was doing yard work. 7 days, 7 beers... well 8 if you count miller... I really don't count that, its not beer, it's the grown man's gatorade.

I've finally come to the conclusion that the only alcohol I can drink without getting sick is Patron. So guess it's tequila from here on out. Which kinda sux cause I really like some good beer. Anybody have some hangover friendly suggestions for beer so I don't have to give it up in my advancing years?? :emb::emb::emb:

Drink less?

Hangovers are a combination of lack of b vitamins, loss of salt (the reason bar food tastes really good when drunk), and dehydration. Your liver needs a lot of water to process and filter out all the toxins (alcohol among them) and in this process you pee a lot which removes salt and b vitamins from your body.

Homebrew, as it happens, is loaded with live yeast which is b vitamin rich (brewer's yeast). This won't eliminate hangovers, but I will tell you that I've yet to suffer a day ruining hangover by over imbibing homebrew. Commercial beer, on the other hand, filters out this yeast to make their beer sparkling clear. Homebrew can appear sparkling clear but at the bottom is the yeast sediment, by swirling this up and drinking it (doesn't taste bad for the most part) you get a large dose. Yeast is huge on b vitamins, and will mostly prevent headaches, and regulate you.

You can further help yourself by ensuring you are well hydrated before you start drinking, and rehydrate for an hour or so after your last drink before you goto sleep. Just have a few glasses of water. Also remember that you also filter alcohol out of your system through your pores. Your skin needs to breathe so take a shower shortly after you wake up to open the pores.

Last resort, keep some ib profen next to the bedside when you wake up and plan on sleeping for awhile. The body doesn't like getting drunk just your brain... sleep gives the body much needed restorative rest and time for your liver to filter out all the junk you put in it.

P.S. Sorry for the rambling... I only get headaches when I overindulge in commercial beer, I've never felt crappy from homebrew, maybe a little tired and run down, but never crappy.

THANKS!! Appreciate all the advice, does it help I wonder to take B vitamins prior to drinking or is that not enough? So I guess I'll send ya my address and you can send me some of that home brew? :D:D

You can take B vitamins before, but if you're going to be tinkling it all out you might as well take them before bedtime

LOL, I have been able to successfully ship bottles to splax before when we traded homebrews.. I think it was like $12-13 bucks for shipping if I try to recall correctly. it was a good trade! I'm still waiting to drink his barleywines!

February, it seems, is taking too long.

Freaking apple wine... I knew better, but the glasses just keep pouring soooo well...

So last night the wife and I were watching more supernatural/tales from the crypt and I decided I'd check out the home stock of brew to see where the taste was at. The House Cream Ale turned out fantastic. Light flavor with a nice creamy note that is well balanced with hops. I probably had 2 glasses of this... Exhibit X is my experimental beer, nice hop bite, deep brown ale flavor with a bit of roast.. I had 3 glasses I think, I was starting to get fuzzy. Then came the Lavendar Apple Wine.. I know I should be wary of drinking this stuff but it tastes so good once it hits your lips.

Goes down like a watery apple flavored gatorade with a nice lavendar flavor (not soap!) and spice. It's really one of the most dangerous alcoholic beverages I've made. It chimes in around 9% abv but you'd never know it since there's no alcohol taste to it. I got 3 or 4 glasses of this down when it was all said and done.. and man... I've been draggin my ass alllllll day

Typically you drop the kids off at the pool, have a bowl of soup, 3 or 4 glasses of water and you're all good. Well not today.. today my body is deciding to rebel and make me sleepy as all hell

curse you apple wine.. curse youuuuuuuuu

lol. Sure sounds good :p

apple wine is cake to make...

get a 5 gallon bottle, 5 gallons of apple juice, 2lbs of corn sugar, and red star montrachet yeast.. I use lavlin 71b-1122 as it keeps the fruity flavors better... mix it all up and let it sit for 4 weeks...

if you go to a brew store you'll be out roughly $60-$100 your first batch, but after that all you're looking at is the cost of apple juice, sugar (its cheap), yeast (80 cents a pack, get 2), and sanitizer (a $35 bottle has lasted me well into a year and I still have 1/4 bottle left, and I brew A LOT) from time to time.. works out to like $25 a 5 gallon batch for high-octane gogo juice

the ladies LOVE it

well today I head to Harvest Fest today in Detroit. 40+ Michigan breweries and 200+ kinds of beer. It starts at 1pm so I say by 3pm everything will be fuzzy.
