Can we get a sticky for this? :D

What do ya'll prefer to drink? Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Wine Coolers? All of them?

I only drink Beer and Hard Liquor. Mint Mojito is about the only thing close to a wine cooler I'll drink though LOL

transferred my Irish Red to the keg last night... It's..... brown. It's got some time to sit in the keg for cold conditioning.. I scooped up some sediment on accident, **** it. This beer rolled in at ~5.8%

I also transferred my wheat ale onto peach puree for the next two weeks so it'll become peach wheat... this beer is so freaking awesome without peaches - and it's gulldern strong too... So far 8.3%.. I'll get a slight amount more alcohol after the peach puree ferments a little bit.. probably around a final 8.5-8.8% - this is the beer that got me a gold medal, and I have to give some away for my mum :(

Today im picking up a bottle of Cantillon Grand Cru Bruocsella which is an unblended Lambic. My beer guy only got 6 bottles of this stuff and he is holding one for me. Cant wait!!!

Although I did get my hands on a 4-pack of Corsendonk last week... Abbey Brown Ale - freakin yummy.

Oh, I got a 12 pack styrofoam beer bottle shipping container off e-bay... I figured I can use the packing material to safely ship bottles and then we can trade with the same box ??

Yeah man for sure Im down. let me know. what are you looking to trade? I can hook you up with some Founder's KBS, Bell's Hopslam, and maybe some home brews. I have an IPA and Red that are ready to go.

Ill have to check out that Corsendonk. all still need to try EKU 28. Its def 18.99 a 6er which isnt terrible. but my beer guy usually gives me a couple bucks off on the more expensive beers.

I'm not sure what we have here that you can't get.. Ever try boulevard or shlafly? Those are pretty much our local breweries that are worth a crap. There is Flying Monkey that's not TOO bad, and Tall Grass if you've ever heard of them? I would definitely ship some homebrews along - I'd be looking to send some lavender apple wine, peach wheat, and this irish red when they're finished up. I could pick up the corsendonk and eku and send you a bottle of each.

I'd be down for your local selections the Founder's and Hopslam

ive never heard of any of those. you just let me know when you wanna do it. itll be sweet

should be a couple weeks from now, the packing material is being shipped today and the brews will be ready in 2 weeks for proper carbing, etc...

yay for beer! :scat:

EDIT: just send me a PM with your addy, I'll let you know when it's on its way

Nice thread!:scat: I knew alpha was a brewer but I didn't know there were others around:)

I just finished up a pale ale 2 weeks ago. It's got about 2-3 more weeks before it will be carbonated.... I used mostly ahtanum hops, but added 3/4 ounce of cascade during the secondary(2 weeks). We'll see:ohno:

I'd love to get into kegging soon. A friend of mine used to be in the restaraunt buisness so he has lots of 5 gallon soda kegs that he said he would just give me if I wanted! I suppose I should get around to making a kegerator before I start all that mess.

Anyway, I'm not as seasoned as Alpha, nor is my setup as nice ( I actually just cracked my largest brewing pot with the pale ale:mad:) but I enjoy it none-the-less.

I'm not sure.... this was about 6 months ago, but I'm pretty sure he has them just sitting in an old warehouse/ storage building. I'll see him this weekend and ask him again.

yeah i just bought a soda keg from my cousins homebrew shop. thing smelled like root beer haha. Had to clean it like crazy before I put my Oktoberfest in there

Today I will be attending the World Expo of Beer over 60 breweries from all over world. Its gonna be awesome!!!!!!!

I don't know if you'd fit in though. There's NO good MexiRican beer that I know of. :p

Just put a lime in it

lol

Would be cool to attend an expo with 60 breweries.. that's a lot of drinkin!

I got a little face hammered myself this weekend.. got me a romeo y julieta cigar, some nice heavy beers and watched Taken with the wife, by the time the movie was over I was cheering and drunk at the same time amped up by all the nicotine I absorbed. Stayed up till around 3AM eating chips and dip... god the chips and dip always tastes so good at 3AM. :hilarious:

Happy 21st b-day Cali - cold pizza and beer in the morning is always a treat!

Yeah it was pretty awesome this weekend. There was just too many beers to drink. 60+ breweries plus a minimum of 4 beers per brewery and most of the time there was more. So by the time i left i was toasted. Best I had all day was a Barleywine aged for 3 years in a Bourbon barrel. It was simply amazing. 15% ABV. Also a double Imperial Stout which was 19%. Both were from a brewery which is only a few miles from my house.

Next year I will definitely be going for both days and not just one.

Oh man, I frackin' love barleywines. I really want to make one, but I don't have the all grain setup yet (or the patience to wait a year:rolleyes:)

Whenever I go out and get one somewhere, people inevitably ask what kind of beer that is. Then you let them have a swig and the face they make is entertaining to say the least:hilarious: You kinda have to be ready for the taste or else it will catch you off guard!

You don't need the allgrain setup to make a barley wine - You can take like 4 or 5 pounds of maris otter and 2 pounds of munich malt, maybe 4 oz of crystal 70L and mini-mash it in a bag in a pot of water.. let's see ... 7 pounds of grain would need 8.75 quarts of water so about 2.19 gallons of water mash at 155 for 60 minutes.. sparge with roughly 2 gallons of water at 170 - You should be at around 3 gallons of water after accounting for some absorbtion by the grain.. boil and add ~9lbs of dry malt extract and boiling for 60 minutes with a rigorous hop schedule like an addition every 15 minutes with the biggest addition at the beginning of course. If you can do a full boil I would add water to take it up to 7.5 gallons and boil it down to 5 gallons to get better hop utilization. Might end up being a 90 minute boil.

crank that sumbeyotch to like 80 IBUs . Galena I would use for bittering.. maybe 2-4 ounces, Cascade 2-4 ounces, and then I'd use some kind of noble hop for flavor/aromas - I wouldn't dry hop.

That's my thoughts on barleywine. ferment for about 3 weeks, rack to secondary, ferment for another month and then bottle. Hide every single one of them somewhere in a safe place.. I'd put them in a rubbermaid and hide them in our utility room buried under crap so I can forget I made it.
