- The steelbook illustration is by Krzysztof Domaradzki.
- The artwork for the slipbox was used previously for the Oldboy vinyl LP. It was co-ordinated by Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive, and illustrated by Laurent Durieux. The director of Oldboy Park Chan-wook wanted one of our editions to feature this artwork so we reached out to Milan Records and illustrator Laurent Durieux. You'll be able to see more of the artwork since parts of the top and bottom were cropped out for the vinyl LP.

I hope its a half split.
Slip looks very cool!
Hopefully the PO time is doable for me in the UK so I can order direct and save some cash as its hard at the moment.

Wow, I recently picked up the translucent orange OST vinyl with that exact slip

Hopefully has a beautiful finish that highlights certain aspects of the art and colours

I really love this art

5000 print run too! Shouldn't have an issue getting one. I'll prob go for this slip unless the other options look better or sway me

@dan8885 @Noodles @harry @Mickle_89 @spass @Sigill
Other options according to my information won't be shown for months right?

I thought they put this on the market, wait a couple of months and show the rest?

Or am I wrong?

Thanks for tag mate

I'm a little bit confused since they said they got a bunch of designers working on the design. And now they pick this Laurent Durieux print from MondoCon 2014 !?
I like the art but I also got already the Vinyl OST with the same artwork. Even when the art is beautiful I hope for something new though :bored:

Yeah I get what you mean lol
Not sure what happened there but I'm quite happy with it

I'm hoping for some lovely finishes to differentiate it from the vinyl :)

Doesn't match the steelbook at all. Garish, hideous, neon colors (slip) crashing headlong into subtle and subdued tones (steelbook). And different artists with incompatible styles. Why is this company no longer capable of using the same artist throughout an entire package? PA has jumped the proverbial shark.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if they don't come up with an alternate slip that complements the steelbook, I'm not buying any edition of this. This is coming from someone who loves this film and has been long looking forward to what should have been an awesome PA treatment.

That's where I first recognised it from too... the vinyl release, which I still need to pick up at some point. I really like the artwork, but I agree with @rj531 on the translucent purple slip... that would look awesome! :D

I still want this PlainArchive ;-)

And i still can't believe this will be 100% the artwork. Where is the korean text? This design is too much tailored for the western market. Such a shame. PlainArchive.... Oldboy is part of the Korean Movie heritage. Please atleast show something korean on the artwork. Every early title from Plain had atleast the Korean text on it. Now its completely gone. Such a shame.

Ninja's,

i couldn't resist so i made a mockup of my interpretation of Oldboy. I used the teaser image Plain Archive made. It's a PET sleeve with on the other half a print, making it semi-transparant. I just can't bare the thought of not using the iconic kaleidoscope effect. ;-)

On the back, the same artwork is used, but then as a booklet. And since i find that Oldboy should be entitled in their native tongue, on the side i put the original korean title.

Disclaimer: @Mods of HDN, if Plain Archive doesn't like this at all, please remove it from the site, thank you.

There is still the possibility other slips will feature Korean text. This is Mondo art evidently, maybe the artist is American, therefore there's English text but there are other slips coming!

Edit: That's art coming from Laurent Durieux, he's Belgian, but anyway I'm confident at least one of the slipboxes will have Korean text- if that's one of the reasons some people buy from Plain Archive.

That's a cool mock but I was going to say hold fire on the whole western thing, they still have other slips to announce so you may get your wish. Would of thought they would do an authentic slip anyway

Someone just commented on PA's Facebook page that there will be a total of three different slips for the steelbook. So there's still hope that they'll come up with something that complements it.

On its own, I think this slip art is pretty cool. But I don't want to see Mondo art on a Plain Archive release--especially when it clashes with the steelbook.
