- The steelbook illustration is by Krzysztof Domaradzki.
- The artwork for the slipbox was used previously for the Oldboy vinyl LP. It was co-ordinated by Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive, and illustrated by Laurent Durieux. The director of Oldboy Park Chan-wook wanted one of our editions to feature this artwork so we reached out to Milan Records and illustrator Laurent Durieux. You'll be able to see more of the artwork since parts of the top and bottom were cropped out for the vinyl LP.

I'm a little bit confused since they said they got a bunch of designers working on the design. And now they pick this Laurent Durieux print from MondoCon 2014 !?

i think its just marketing talk/excuses. this steel has been two years in the making. it probably took less time to write, shoot, and release the film itself. lets face it, this release has been in production hell with PA glossing it over by playing up the amount of artists working on it.

i do like the artwork shown so far for the slip. though if i saw the art with no accompanying text, i would have no clue it was for oldboy...

From Plain Archive:
Oldboy Steelbook (3 Discs):

In mid-September, we'll be taking pre-orders for Oldboy Steelbook. The total print run will be 5,000. Disc 1 will feature Oldboy and Disc 2 will show Old Days, the documentary. It will also include new HD extra features as well as most of the bonus features of the UE DVD. The total runtime of the extra features will be 9h 37m.

Disc 3, exclusive to Steelbook, will feature interviews for Old Days that didn't make the final cut. For five months, we've travelled across South Korea to interview 40 people.

Interviews on Disc 3 will be categorized into 19 sections as listed below. The total runtime is approximately 3 hours.

Oldboy Steelbook will be available in 3 Editions:

The attached image of the Slipbox is what we call a Director's Choice.

Please understand that we can't reveal other editions of the Steelbook at the moment as we're working on them right now. The pricing of the Steelbook will be USD $46.89.

Oldboy Limited Box Set:

For the first time, Plain Archive is planning a limited Box Set.

Inside, you'll find:

1) Oldboy Steelbook
2) Storyboard
3) Script
4) Photo Book (never-before-seen on-set photographs / 110 images)
5) Essay Book
6) Extra Goods

It will cost around USD $90.

**Due to high shipping costs and possibilities of damage, we won't be selling the limited Box Set internationally.

Thank you

I can only echo what everyone else has already said about the box set not being available to international customers... very disappointing! Although, I can kind of understand PA's reason for wanting to avoid it... a lot of collectors seem to be very OCD, especially when it comes to PA editions, so I don't imagine they'd want to be losing money by shipping damaged box sets back and forth.

What a bunch of b*llsh*t.

Stopped collecting PlainArchive since they went for the big money, something changed there which I didn't like and now they are telling us we can't have it?

So, they wanted our money with ZDT (big box with poster) and sold us multiple framed posters, but they cannot sell us this?

PlainArchive, what went wrong with you guys?

Seriously....

I can understand everyone's frustration, but at the same time I echo what Noodles said, it'd be a lot of hassle to ship these box sets out & then for, say, half of them to be returned because of scuff marks or any other damage & then for Plain to ship out replacements or whatever.

Granted, I wasn't interested in the box set anyway, I just want a full slip (trying for the keep case edition also). The thing that bothers me most is the lack of subtitles. I know some (or maybe even most) of the extras are available elsewhere, but I thought this would be the definitive edition of this movie & the lack of subtitles is a bit weird to me.

only disc 3 doesnt have subs which is some of the extra interviews that didnt make the new documentary.

disc 2 which has the main extras and new documentary HAS subs

Thanks for the tag @harry

This turns out from being the most anticipated release to be the biggest let down. And it's not even Plain Archives fault. First and foremost they're a retailer for the South Korean market. We act sometimes as they're only doing their releases for OCD collectors who just keep them sealed on a shelf but they buy those licenses for a first Blu-Ray release on the South Korean market. That their people can enjoy the movies with Korean subtitle for the first time. So I can understand some of this mess. And I don't blame PA that much.
But I don't like it. I was very excited for this release but it gets worse and worse :(

I'm sooooooo not excited. I'll just stick to my Zavvi's steelbook.

- No Korean art or text on any artwork
- slip not matching the steelbook art
- No limited box set for international market
- disc 3 is Korean only
- only 500 out of 2200 printrun is available for international customers? Say what?

Nah, guess I'll just NOT order and wait for the PET sleeve reveal.

And @dan8885 I totally disagree with you. PlainArchive bought this release with the mere intention of selling this heavily to their international customers. That's where most of their orders come from anyways. The Korean physical media market is very small. So for me, what you said doesn't make sense. ;-)
