How many people open their Steelbooks when they buy them or do you just leave them sealed.

So far i have 13 Steelbooks and have opened 3 i opened Angels and Demons,Inglorious Bastards and District 9.

I fear if i open my pirates and nightmare before christmas ones i will have to modify them to be able to put the discs in and not have them in a sleeve

Has anybody ever had any trouble with steelbook rust. I have had a couple now that have started to get small chips on the edges. I had an Inglourious Basterds FS that was opened and then stored in a poly bag straight away and yet within 18 months there was a build up of chips and rust on the top edge if the blue banner, it was only noticeable if you look for it but it annoyed me enough to sell it. I wonder whether its the temperature it was stored in or whether it was a manufacturing defect. I have seen it happen to a couple of other steels so I guess it may just be one of those things, I suppose metal is bound to rust even if stored in a poly bag. Has anybody else had this issue?

I didn't event think a steelbook could get rusted. I haven't had any issues thus far but ask me again in 5 or 10 years :D

Yeah I didn't too! Ive only seen it happen on a couple so hopefully its just a rare thing. I have noticed that steelbooks that I have kept sealed have never been affected so I wondered whether it might be a manufacturing issue with the steels. I imagine a lot of steelbooks are better made than others.

And I've got a Tron Legacy (GER) on the way that I'm contemplating opening to fully enjoy the artwork, even though I already have the US Blu-ray with lenticular slipcover.

Am I crazy?

Nah. I mean if you already got the amaray .... Its no different then people who collect action figures. They are worth more in stock on the card, ie. not opened. Not like you gonna play with it ... If there are pictures online then you can see the inside that way ... however, if you don't have the movie and wanna watch the movie ... then have at it. Crack er' open and enjoy.

I open way more now then I ever did before.

sigill, love to see some pics of rust on a steelbook if you got any.

Hey Wreck I think I still have some pics of the IB, I will dig them out!

Heres a few pics of the steelbook, it was in mint condition when i opened it. It was stored in a polybag and was looked after and yet after 12 months these marks and chips started appearing, this is what it was like just before i sold it. I presume it was rust because it was getting worse as time went on. :( I was gutted to have to get rid off it.

Wow that does suck ... I guess we need the Scarface humidor to stick our steelies in. :p

tho I think that would be opposite, I would guess that the hotter the temp the worse.

LOL, the humidor would be nice! Yeah i would imagine heat would be worse than cool temps? Hopefully i don't get any more turning out like this!

Must be a UK thing ... notice his bedspread. :p

on the real tho, I wonder if its REALLY rust ... or a bad paint job or temperature or something. odd. I mean its definitely isolated when you can find PS2 game steelbooks that are EXTREMELY old with no rust or markings of those kind.

LOL, i only just caught his bedspread now! I think you are right Wreck, i think it might be just a manufacturing issue because it does seem to be very rare. I think it could be due to the quality of the paint job as most Steelbooks seem to be just fine.

I never even thought about not opening a steelbook until I joined this site.
On the plus side I mostly opened them to see the artwork inside sometimes even to watch the movie But now I can just admire them from all the great photos uploaded on here if I do not want to open it.
