Ok then lets see you sell your Iron Man for MSRP. Why not if it doesn't matter?

Heck lets see you sell all your spares at MSRP?

99.9% of the time I sell my spare copies or pick them up for members here and youtube at cost. You should know me better than that.

As for my Iron Man or all my other rare steels they have the value I want to give them. They could be worth $1000 each or $10 it doesn't change anything as long as I don't sell them, and I have no intention to do so. And that's why I don't care if they gain or lose value, because I'm not selling them.

I do know you better. Im not trying to be an ass although i guess I kind of just was, lol, but I guess what Im saying is that it does matter in the end despite all of this. I mean I have gotten plenty of members on here steel's at cost that I could have easily made a profit on. Im sure many members can attest to that as well. Its not lost personal profit or monetary gains that Im trying to point out as the affected variables due to re-releases. Its other things that make the steel books that much more.

Exclusivity and rarity are just that... special. You have to admit that those two factors do make some of the steelbooks we have that much more special. It adds that third and extra dimension to the steel books that they on there own aren't. On there own there just cool packaging and some shade of artwork. That certainly doesn't drive people to the level of passion or obsession in some cases towards this hobby. Its that extra dimension.

I guess Im not seeing what others are here. We will just have to agree to disagree.

We shouldn't jump to conclusions people until we have some kind of definitive confirmation of what the artwork will be. Let's not shoot them down beforehand. If they turn out to be the same then we have room for concern. Until then it's all still in the air. Please give them a little breathing room until then. Just remember that a lot of eyes are upon us at any given time that could ultimately sway a deciding factor. I wouldn't go so far as to say that your going to quit the business of SteelBook collecting but to voice your opinion of what you think is cool. :)

Voice of reason... I shall calm down Acid just because you said so. :p

Like you said Ill reserve my comments from here on in until we know what the artwork is like on these.

Wasn't gonna comment but heck couldn't keep my mouth shut lol

I am upset and will be friggin pissed off IF those re-released titles will be identical in everyway to the original rare and sought after ones, and that will be a huge deal breaker for me in collecting steelbooks, yes I have 99% of all the rare ones, some got them early for retail price and others not so lucky, namely IM, Rambo & Wanted, few others too but the point is I don't care splashing that much money on them as long as they R and remain valuable in this Steelbook collecting hobby (not neccessarly value for money wise), I spent £sss on DVD LEs for years and I still have the cream of the crop as I bought them to cherish them and keep them in my collection, not for investment, yes most of them aren't worth much these days but I really don't care much, it isn't because they were re-released, it's because BD won and it's a new format and I'm cool with that, it's new technology and sure why not but this is completely different, they are really killing the essence of this hobby by those exact re-releases, if that happens, you won't go and feel the urge to hunt those rare ones down anymore, another similar reissue is out and thousands of collectors have the same copy, it'll be like so what's the point in collecting something that everyone else has, remember quality vs quantity, that's all we asking for ... At the end of the day it's U & Me on here who makes something so rare and sought after, all this hype and endless conversation about that beautiful and sold out title will be worthless ...

As a collector I am proud of what I have in my collection and will not sell my precious just like DVD LEs, still have all my Korean 'films' DVD LEs and a lot of Hollywood and Asian LEs too but this BD format is far from dying or will be changing to a new one so don't kill it by mass & infnite re-releases of limited collectible editions like steelbooks.

This **** regarding the steelbooks is getting ridiculous. As collectors or buyer or whatever the hell we are called, we are getting screwed. The studios are just doing a money grab. Take a look at the German products and their million releases. A steelbook is released, then a few years later, it is released again and sometime it is exactly the same but a second printing. You have no idea if you are buying second printing or something left over for the first print. I think it was done with one of the Trilogy sets (Underworld or Resident Evil). At least put SECOND PRINT on the cover if they are releasing the same art work.

Now the studios are releasing steelbooks in every country it seems. How many countries are releasing Underworld Awakening.

Why don't the studios just eliminate the amray releases and just release everything in a steelbook/iron pack/etc?

Btw, it is snowing/hailing in the Vancouver area. What the hell?

Lets just settle down and wait for pics of the artwork....then we can complain about, or welcome, these releases.

I'm a bit conflicted on the Iron Man re-release. I don't own the FS Iron Man steelbook.
On the one hand I think this steelbook and others like it should be kept limited and rare and on the other I'd love to be able to get a beautiful steelbook like this and not have to pay insane amounts for it.
I think for me the rarity is nice but the most important thing is the look and feel of the actual product. None of my friends give two sh**s about special packaging or actually buying movies and music in the first place, so even if Iron Man got re-released and lost it's rarity I would still be the only one of my friends who had it and therefore it'd still be rare to me.

But I'm not sure if I'll buy this if it gets re-released. I guess there is something special about the first of it's kind.

^^^ Amen to that. I was being dead serious when I said I would seriously consider dumping the steel book hobby. This re-release I think would put me over the top if it comes out with the same artwork. Its just not right no matter how I look at it. If any of the studios are reading they should take note as I cannot be the only collector thinking the same thing. And thats right collectors are the mass % of steel books buyers.

My steel book collection could easily fund a a frame and motor for my 69 fastback project I've been wanting to do if not more.

everyone needs to understand that the studios dont care about keeping volumes low on releasing 4000 copies of any steelbook to make us 4000 people happy. the bottom line is how much money they can make of re releasing steelbooks. dont think for one second they are feeling bad for us with rare steelbooks who paid a premium for them. they will milk re releases as much as they can if we continue to buy them.

i totally agree with this its all about the money to them...

im only just starting out in collecting steelbooks but i wouldnt let this re release of iron man bother you to much after all the first edition will never de value because anyone who is serious about collecting steelbooks will always want that one because its the orginal first edition its like books i guess there are thousands of copies re realeased but the people who collect books only want first editions..so if it was me who had the FS ironman i would look at it as having the orignal first release and thats the one that everyone will still always want imo anyway :)

There is merit in all thats been said.i started collecting just over a year ago,and realised very quickly that i was,nt really interested in re-prints unless the cover took my fancy.ive spent good $$$ on rare/hard to get,1st editions ect,and no i would not be happy to see a re-release of ironman the same as (fs) which i don't have, but will one day,i would welcome a new release as long as its different.
if as ive heard claimed,we the collector are the studios main clients, and they are listening to these forums, then why do i see so many group buys on this forum for re-releases.they are out there(the studios)to make a buck(simple as that.) if we as the collectors (there market for steels)then this market needs to have more say.the question we should be debating is how do we get it ,and how can the collectors make the studios hear us.im new to this game and i love it,but ive just read 5 pages of arguments amongst ourselve's about something that hasn't even been set in cement yet.to hear good loyal steelers say there gunna chuck it in is very sad indeed. :(we don't know what artwork there looking at or maybe even what format,as they may come out in metal slips.(which australia does)
maybe we have a bigger voice in this than some may think,if we are their main clients for steels, then we vote with our wallets.don't buy re-releases and the studios will get the message real quick, and start asking wrek and didgi and all you other long term'ers ,what do you as a collector "WANT".
As for all you lucky B#@%^S EEK! who have an ironman(fs) you'll always have the MONA LISA and THE STATUE OF DAVID.ITS THE ORIGINAL AND NO COPY WILL EVER BE BETTER. :naughty:

Even if they do re-release Iron Man with the same cover art, it won't be exactly the same, and even small differences can ensure that a steelbook retains collector value. We've seen that with Wanted (same art with 2 versions but one is debossed) and I Am Legend (same art but one has blu banner), and the first releases of these still command healthy resale prices to collectors.

As for titles being shovelled out over and over, I have a feeling it's inevitable now. Studios have realised that steelbooks are a money spinner, (a way to re-release their back catalogue to make money on them all over again), so we're bound over time to see rare titles being reissued - probably over and over. The days of steelbooks being an exclusive collectors' market are gone.

Personally there are one or two amongst this Australian wave that I'm really pleased about, like Saving Private Ryan, which I'll finally be able to get with an English language cover without having to hunt down the ridiculously rare Aussie metal slipcase. So it's not all doom n gloom. ;)

Let's all cool down and wait for news. Honestly, I will be surprised if the re-release is identical in every way to, say, Iron Man FS. The chances are that there will be enough difference to tell them apart. For eg, the Sucker Punch release had the FSK seal printed on it (instead of a sticker).

Lets just settle down and wait for pics of the artwork....then we can complain about, or welcome, these releases.

Yeah relax, we'll see...

... i don't care if the art is different from the original(s), i just hope Iron Man will match nicely with my (Hong Kong) Iron Man 2
;)
