Not got mine yet, Lion King was sent after this and I got that one a few days ago. Hopefully it's just Christmas backlog.

as already mentioned, turning off the 3d on your 3d blu ray player converts this to 2d. doing this seems to do exactly the same on all 3d only discs also. comes in handy for those 3d only releases, such as the transformers age of extinction entertainment store release.

Technically there is no conversion involved when you view a 3D Blu-ray in 2D. Only the image stream for one eye is displayed and the stream for the other eye is ignored by your TV.

Turning off the 3d ability on your 3d blu ray player to make it 2D only
It will only work if the 3D disc has the 2D version active on same Disc

If you turn off the 3D Function in your 3D Blu ray player the disc wont play if the Disc is 3D only you will get a message you need a 3D Blu ray player that's 3D capable and message to update your firmware

It will work only if the Disc is 2D/3D it will play the 2D version

It would not work with Transformers age of extinction entertainment store 3D Blu ray as that's 3D only it does not have an active 2D version on the Disc (The 2D code is locked on that 3D Disc)

This might be the release that convinces me to be done with the HDN Group Buys, far too often these days I go for overseas releases over the UK versions and so far it looks like there's been a 100% fail ratio with me doing so :(

I went with the FS version of this film but this Zavvi release looks so much better :(

i see what you mean and stand corrected. i thought it would work as i tried it with the megamind 3d promotional copy that came in a 3d glasses kit. seems that obviously has the option to play it in a 2d player, despite the option not appearing in the menu. just tried it with the prometheus 3d only disc and it didn't work. thanks for the info guys.

Yes It does, Ive done it myself, my 5 year old son has no interest in 3d and wanted to watch it, I simply pressed my 3D button and hey presto 3D was turned off and was displyyed in 2D

That's different what your doing there is using your TV to turn off 3D its not the same

Discs normally that are 3D/2D you get an option in the menu to select 3D or 2D with this Sin City 2 release you can only play the 2D version in a standard 2D blu ray player or in a 3D player by disabling 3D function of the 3D player as there is no menu option to select 2D
You cant play the 2D version connected to a 3D player connected to a 3D TV if the 3D is not disabled in the 3D players settings as there is no option to select the 2D version on the Disc

The backward ability of 3D Specs is that you can play in a standard blu ray player and a standard TV that's not 3D this is only possible if the 3D Disc has both 2D/3D on the same disc

Transformers age of extinction entertainment store 3D Disc does not play in a standard 2D blu ray player so it does not meet the 3D Specification of been backward compatible as there is no active 2D version on the Disc

I was able to watch my Transformers ES 3D in 2D so it mustn't be locked? Maybe only certain Tvs allow it?

Your using your TV to turn off 3D

Its not about if your 3D TV has the ability to turn off 3D
Its about the ability to play in 2D on a standard Blu ray player

You cant play Transformers 3D disc in a standard 2D Blu ray player so that disc is not backward compatible

Sin City 2 3D Disc is backwards compatible as it plays in a standard 2D Blu ray player and a 3D Blu ray Player

I think you mean, thank you LionsGate. Or thank you manufacturing plant.

I love to blame Zavvi as much as the next person, but only when it's their fault. I assume the scratch was underneath the J-card.
I am beginning to think that the release has a manufacturing defect as mine has a scratch on the back as well similar to other people on this thread.

Thankfully, mine arrived scratch free; but you'd like to think that the factories that manufacture said faulty steelbooks would have a bit more quality control. I mean, we pay a premium for a collectible item so naturally we're going to want to see it arrive looking flawless. The fact that people are happy to ship steels out with scratches, bumps and dings really annoys me...

I imagine a lot of it is automated.

The steelbook is produced, at which point checks for defects might be checked (randomly most likely), they then go off in another machine for discs to be inserted. Another part of the machine closes the case, another machine puts the J-card on and finally another one shrink wraps it.

It would be nice if damages were removed entirely, but it simply isn't possible. I think the biggest problem here, as with any Zavvi release, is getting an issue resolved. If stock was saved for replacements (and it wasn't such a hassle to get one), we'd all be a lot happier.

Is this going to be the norm now with 3D steelbooks, just to give us the 3D disc and skip the 2D disc to save money! It's not like this release only comes in 3D/2D on 1 disc like dredd or underworld. Like @psychoscot said earlier for the amount their charging for this is really should be 2 disc.

That's something we will have to wait and see its possible film studios might go that direction
It was always meant to be that way anyway a 3D Disc have both 3D/2D versions
Previously they gave you both as separate 2D and 3D discs in same release achieving the same objective but were locking the 2D code on the 3D disc
Separate Discs are needed sometimes as the extras needed a separate disc

Its only a matter of not locking the 2D code on the disc so its playable in a 2D Blu ray Player but it would be a better option if 2D/3D selection is in the Menu for those with a 3D Blu ray and 3D TV to choose 2D or 3D as an option in the menu

This release does have both 3D and 2D on the same disc and is playable in 2D and 3D Blu ray players

It does make sense to have it all on 1 disc but some people here are reporting that if you have a 3D tv and player it automaticly plays in 3D which can be annoying if you want to watch it in 2D. And like me have a 2 year old that loves to lose the TV remote, can't turn it off lol
