Discuss the value of certain steels, releases, etc. What do you think is worth the most and why? Which ones do you see gaining value etc?

There is many reasons why we love and collect steelbooks, but for some value and collectibility come into play on how rare/scarce the movie is or the amount of demand there is for that title and that is what this thread is about.

So lets keep this thread for basically just random discussion on the value of Steels and predictions and what not.

Im yet to see it in 3D everyone keeps telling me i should but i just cant stand 3D.

An Avatar steel would be awesome and i would jump at the chance to get it.

Scott-try to give this one a new chance, and "see it with new eyes". This one did not feel "gimmicky" to me-no reaching of hands into the audience, or "deliberate" 3D sequences-it was just part of the presentation. Really hard to convey until you see it. I know many people that feel the same about 3D. I have seen many 3D features-I can honestly say that this one was flat out amazing presentation in 3D. Once the glasses go on, they don't come off, and the entire film is 3D-plus the scenes, including the fantastic flying sequences are super smooth. There was no strange "readjusting" that I saw, and it was smooth sailing from start to finish, for me. It's truly the 1st experience where I did not get a headache, or was squinting, or feeling nauseaus at times. This is the one to see in 3D Imax-and if Cameron and the industry's enthusiasm about the advances in special effects are any indication, we'll continue to see more and more "features" in 3D. In my opinion it showcases. It's a beautiful film as it is, and the 3D adds dozens of layers to the store visually. :scat:

Prediction, smaller titles that got released in 09 will gain extreme value due to studios and retailers not willing to take the gamble on re-releasing/reprinting them. example: Death Race, Hellboy 2 (MM) even some TF1 titles ... Casino, Jackie Brown, Kill Bills, Pulp Fiction (depending on current French stock; not quite sure if they just keep reprinting them)

Bigger prediction: It may take some time, but the Disney steels have the best chance of increased value due to a studio being SO strict... They even lock titles in a fictional vault. ie. Sleeping Beauty. That is a GUARANTEED no reprint until X amount of time.

So long as there is no reprint of the Disney steels in late 3rd early 4th quarter this year then we should be all good on these gaining great value. If no reprint in US and no release in UK this year then hopefully new 12/10 etc. weeks of Disney this year and increased value of this last Disney batch. It's all about demand, every title that's ever been worth big money has ALWAYS been due to demand. If the title is rare, it s worth dough. Hurt Locker USA was perfect proof, it was worth a great deal as it was so rare and when Hurt Locker Korea/Mexico/Italy released the value has decreased insanely.

Disney titles always bring Demand, and now if the studio will stay strict as proven in years past then all these titles will increase in value when they are more limited and more collectors arise.

I also predict FS titles like IB, PE, & BoE will gain in value in due time.

what do peeps think of the john rambo mm mixup, was supposed to be the cut version & they put the uncut version in the case.then got recalled, rumored to be out for one day only before getting called back.i know we will never know how many are out there, just wondering what peeps thought's are.i know people selling them on ebay were having them removed, not everyone though.got mine of there.

I have one of those, Got it day 1 from a guy who bought like 10 and opened one to find out. None the less, I dont think it brings much more in value compared to the other as its all about trust only. If there was a different sticker on it or something to tell which are uncut and not cut withuot opening I think it would be a whole nother' story.

Thing is, to find out if yours is uncut you have to be one who opens your steel. So then even if yours isnt you could stick an uncut disc in it (USA) making it essentially the same thing. Now if someone had a reciept from the first day of release, then I guess it could bring in more money via auction etc since you have some pretty good proof.

Overall, the value of that one in particular is all about trust.

imo.

Ya, Bang On! I actually undid the wrapping to check on which disc I had.:(

calling me out eh? I've been sitting on this info for a while heh, just been too busy.

This is a mock up, made by that company who we love so much .... So its not a confirmation, but it lets you know what they are marketing and pushing for .... So it could see the light of day, one day far away ... or maybe never. But definitely interesting, and thus definitely a good time to grab Casino Royale (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002W4C37K/?tag=hidefnin0d-21) if you want to one day have the trilogy in seperate steel. Take it for what its worth...

Thanks Wreck for this-already have Casino Royale, would be cool, if they brought this out, along with the other missing JB Steels of course. I can't say I am a huge Bond fan, but I hate incomplete "sets":)

"Value" of Steelbooks is totally relative as it is strictly determined by the buying market. It's not like Baseball Cards, Coins or Stamps where there are actually almanacs stating the value per condition.

The way I see it there are "The Big 3" being in league of their own:

- John Rambo Amazon Steel
- I am Legend FS Steel
- Iron Man FS Steel

Then there are the "Up and Comers" or "Honorable Mention":

- Indiana Jones FS Steel
- Wanted german Steel
- Iron Man german MM Steel

Personally, I still think that the original amazon.de John Rambo is still the "Crem dela Crem" (prolly not spelled right, but you get the point ;) )

Granted, only a true hardcore collector cares about the rarity of this one as most casual collectors will go for the much cheaper MM Version, but then again only a true hardcore collector will be willing to fork out €200 for a single Steelbook anyway ;):p

Well, it looks like the re-release of IAL is killing the value of the original.

I think it cost around $200 on ebay, now, it look's like anywhere from $70-$80

I pray they don't re-release FS Iron Man. I like looking on my shelf of Steelbooks and seeing that oh so pretty FS IM staring back at me.

It will be interesting to see what occurs on the IAL re-release day.

While the steelbooks that were released today have very nice looking artwork, I honestly thought they looked a bit cheap and had washed out colors, and in general, sort of all looked the same.

If the re-release of IAL is anything like the ones today, you will see the original IAL rise in value again

IMO

I would wait a bit more and buy a second for cheap and open it. If the re-release is "identical" you have lost next to nothing, but if the re-release is sub-par, you still have an original sealed IAL :scat:
