Per First Showing:

Already?! Deadline reports that Sony/Columbia Pictures has set a date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a sequel to Marc Webb's new take on the web-head, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. They're claiming the key May 2nd, 2014 release spot, aiming to kick off the 2014 summer with Spidey, which is 2 years, 9 months away. It's very early to be scheduling for 2014, but a Sony exec explains: "I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment." That may be true, but we're still a year away from seeing the first Amazing Spider-Man!
The Amazing Spider-Man, a fresh new take on the comic book hero created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko, stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, our hero Spider-Man, as well as Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May. 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb is directing this new reboot of Spider-Man, from a screenplay written by Alvin Sargent (Sam Raimi's Spider-Man), Steve Kloves (Harry Potter franchise) and James Vanderbilt (The Rundown, Zodiac, The Losers). Sony is bringing this new Amazing Spider-Man movie to theaters in 3D on July 3rd, 2012. Watch the first teaser trailer here.

Also, while it wasn't mentioned by Deadline, it was revealed last year that Marc Webb would be directing "the next three movies" in this new Spider-Man franchise, so the early assumption is that he'll also be back.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Set Up The Sinister Six!

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=116491

It was confirmed by Sony Pictures late last year that the studio is looking at expanding their Marvel fare with upcoming big screen spinoffs like Venom and The Sinister Six. Today, EW has both revealed its latest cover, showcasing Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and dropped a few more details about the expansion of the cinematic Spider-verse.

“At the tail end of this movie we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six,” Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal tells the magazine. “We’re going forward on all fronts.”

Although the line-up of villains for the bad guy ensemble hasn't been revealed, the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suggests that characters like Doctor Octopus and The Vulture are being eyed as potential recruits.

“Villains can be very entertaining,” adds producer Avi Arad. “It’s not like somebody’s born and they’re a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it — they become the heroes. Some people can’t and hate the world because of what they felt was done to them — they become the villains.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field and B.J. Novak and hits theaters May 2.

Just got back from watching this, really enjoyed it. Kicks off right from the beginning, not as dark as the first movie, quite a few spoilers as to future villains. A spoiler in the middle of the credits but nothing at the end.

Not telling you anything!!! :naughty:

I really hope you can all enjoy it though.

It looks like the X-Men are coming to the Amazing Spider-Man... kinda.

Reports surfaced this week (via Empire Online) that a clip of Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past plays after Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man 2, prompting many fans to speculate about whether the two studios have planned a team-up to unite the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises. The short answer is no: The Days of Future Past stinger at the end of Amazing Spider-Man 2 actually came about as a result of negotiations between the two studios for director Marc Webb to return to the Spider-verse.

According to Variety, the deal came about during negotiations between Sony and Fox in 2012, when discussing Webb’s contract with Fox Searchlight to direct another film following (500) Days of Summer. Reportedly, Fox allowed Webb to return for Amazing Spider-Man 2, but only because Sony agreed to promote Days of Future Past for free. There is no crossover in the works between the two studios’ franchises.

The deal would also partially explain Webb’s return to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise for a third film with no mention of his promised film to Fox Searchlight, though the director has stated it will be his last run with the wall-crawler.
