2K print run on older movies is a great idea for buyer and Zavvi alike, Zavvi are happy as they sell all their stock, rather than having loads left and having to reduce the price until they are almost giving them away and the buyer is happy because he pays a price and does not get annoyed a few weeks later when the cost of the steel is cut by a few quid.
Newer films need a larger print run because there is a lot more interest but for a movie like The Aviator 2K is perfect.

yeah it's all great for you guys who can pre order it within 24 hours, but they are some who can't and may miss out, what do you say to that "oh well should of been quicker" nobody want's to pay a premium to miss out,and these will be oven more stupid prices since they are priced at 16.99. zavvi need better prices, not lower print runs. if play.com could sell out 4k print runs so can zavvi, making lesser print runs IS NOT the answer

May not be your answer but it looks like Zavvi are giving this a go, There Will Be Blood, BITSP and this have all sold out, that is what Zavvi want. £17 for this release all sold out, that has to be better for them than selling the first 2000 at full price then having to sell off the last 1000 at £4.99, plus all that stock sitting there unsold costs them money. If they reduced the price to start with they would have to sell twice as many to make the same profit, again from Zavvi's point of view this must be better.

if they make every release 2k they will lose alot of customers, including me

Lesser print runs is the answer. They don't have to hold the bag and then lower the price for a loss. This way they sell through the entire run quickly and then the can do it over and over and over. Perfect business model.

This market needs to gain footing again. 2000 print runs is the answer to getting the collector back in the game. It gives that extra added collectability of the steelbook that seems to have been lost over the last year.

yeah, and more expensive steelbooks for back catalogue titles and a mad run everytime, sounds greaaaaaaat. not like people have been complaing about the price and the finish on steelbooks already...nope

I doubt that will happen, I imagine all newer releases will still be 4k runs but I can also see a lot of back catalogue titles being 2k runs because they have proved to themselves that they struggle to sell larger runs of older titles. I think most people will still be Zavvi customers, simply because they want these titles in their collection.

Releases like this and with lower print runs (asians) is main factor way this hobby is excited. If every each release been up for order for months will be boring and sad for me:( only imo

Got to laugh at this, zavvi do a 2k run and people moan. ES do a 2k run (g.i. joe), no moaning, and its still available to buy.

Zavvi have released 2k run on movies people actually want.

Kimchi 2k on tangled, still available, and again no moaning about the print run.

Is it just that zavvi are trying to give customers what they want that people hate? A 2k run doesnt guarantee it will sell out, so zavvi are doing titles and prices acceptable to their customers whether we like it or not. I hope it continues i like knowing that i actually have a collectable and not something that will be on sale a month later at half the price

i never asked for 2k print run's ive always said they should reduce there asking prices (14.99) instead.

2K print runs would be the death of the collector IMO.

Because I guarantee probably about half the number of this Steelbook has been snapped up by scalpers to make double their money back whilst the true collector has to miss out if they are not fast enough to get their pre order in.

It's just the nature of the game and always will be.
