Q) What is the purpose of this thread?
A) To discuss Ebay policies/issues

Q) Where can i find the Ebay Presale Policy?
A) Click HERE

Q) Can a HDN Trade mod help me with an Ebay sale/trade issue? Also why is there no 'ebay bad traders' list?
A) Simply put, no. To find out why, ensure you read the following spoiler:
please use this thread as a RESOURCE to ask your fellow members about problems you've had with a reseller or questions about e-bay.

do NOT use this thread to attack or refute other members. if you an e-bay dispute with a member here, perhaps it's best to approach a trading mod before posting? we don't police e-bay, but maybe we can give you a tip or two.

if members ignore these suggestions, then the thread might be locked for a couple of weeks.

thank you.

hey folks,

as a reminder what myself (and other mods) have continued to mention via private message, e-mail and other areas. we do NOT police other trading marketplaces like ebay, youtube, amazon and the rest.

there is ONLY a certain amount of information at our disposal and we do not have the resources in these other locations as we do on this forum - things that we can look at and evaluate.

having said that, there are trading rules on this forum that have been instituted for your own protection for trading transactions that happen HERE.

this includes the pending / active sales threads, the requirement of feedback posted for any new traders, our support ticketing system, the active investigations held by trading moderators and many other things we do not discuss openly.

we have long held that problems occurring on these other forums and marketplaces should be taken the appropriate authorities on THOSE websites.

many of you are established traders here on this forum and you should know all about the guidelines that are stickied in this section - including having new traders send first, getting tracking from the other party and proof of shipment, and what other precautions can be taken to protect your trading safety.

trading via ebay and their messaging system is against their stated policy and should not occur - and there are reasons why they have created that policy. you don't have protection of paypal or their listing system as a buyer or seller.

having said that, if there is trouble with an ebay seller or buyer, you should go to their website and report it there. if you are not aware of this process, follow the below link for more information.

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/report-trading.html

so folks can feel free to chat about a seller or buyer that they are having problems with, but I can tell you right now - there will not be a "witch hunt" by moderators or staff based on one person's account of the problems or trouble they are having - and we limit the action taken for or against members here to transactions that occurred on this forum.

as stated in the thread title of our bad traders list - that list is for FORUM MEMBERS ONLY.

thank you.
Q) Where can i find the HDN Buyer Beware / Bad Traders list?

It may be sealed placed in a poly bag. Hard to see original sealing through the polybag

May be best to just ask them about it and ask them ask for photographic proof. (like with a photo next to his user ID)

It seems a little OTT, but they have supplied a crappy photo on the listing, so don't feel bad about asking.

If they do not reply, don't bid.

This is what I think also. If you check his other items it looks the same...poly bag over sealed. His Thor pic, says not sealed and is in a poly bag also.

as many of you have bought the captain america steelbook from the seller: DVDBRR

please be warned and be very careful. Check your steelbook under good lighting, i have two copies received from this seller that are both damaged !

they both have huge scratches on the steel with the shrink wrap still on. The item seems to be repackaged imo. Theres no way in my opinion that these are "new" if these kind of scratches are on the steel, UNDER the shrink. I have filed a claim and well see what happens

I need a bit of advice ninja's. I sold my John Carter China Edition steelbook on ebay, the winner of the auction was a fella from Germany.

He randomly opened a case with ebay (before contacting me first) a while ago saying the SB hadn't arrived yet, I replied with a screenshot of the proof of postage. (it was sent normal delivery, no tracking or signature) Then he replied a day later saying the SB has now arrived and he just needs the consignment number and shipping number.

I haven't got either of these, never heard of them either. Plus I was confused why he would need them anyway now that he said he has the SB. To make matters worse I had to use google translate for everything and he probably did too. Anyway I forgot about it and then a couple days later I got an email saying that ebay have opened the case and I have 48 hours to reply. About 10 hours later they emailed me again saying that they have closed the case and the buyer has been given a full refund! Even though he told me he has the SB with him and it's fine!

This has only just happened, so I haven't done anything yet. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone before and if it's easy to deal with? Any advice would be great, thanks

just an fyi .... its a metal box from china right? Not steelbook? Also just copy and paste this info to ebay? I assume paypal froze your funds?

Mate you need to go back in the case and press the blue button that says appeal then you get a chance to explain things. they will re-open the case.

It didn't happen to me exactly like that. However, you can still appeal the case if it just happened.
I would start with calling them though or maybe use the chat option, as it's often easier to explain the case that way.

Yeh I meant a VMB ;)

And thanks for the advice everyone! I've never had this happen before, so I didn't even know you could appeal. I've done that now and just waiting for the reply

Is anybody else having problems with non payers on ebay i currently got three cases open for non payment does anything actually happen to these people who dont pay?

Took the plunge on this one. Loved the film, loved the artwork and had to have it. Bought for £49.00 on ebay Like New. Sadly came with two tiny paint chips though. Anyone else notice any chipping on their copies? I wish i collected/bought steels around the time this came out. Such a great steelbook and fantastic film.

Its always a problem with the black cover steels. they just seem to WANT to chip!

If these chips were not mentioned in the listing, message the seller. This really gets on my nerves when they make out its perfect, when its not.

You should request some cash back, or send it back to him. Don't settle for it as it stands, you have paid very good money on a steel that cost the seller £12 - new.

Any steelie I have sold has always has the extra photos to show ANY imperfections, that way the seller and buyer both now the score.

This sort of thing really annoys me and does take the gloss of collecting. Money grabbers and not even honest ones at that!

or you can just message him and say:

"dude, erm... you have sent me a £5.89 pitch black by accident" :hilarious::scat:

No they weren't. To be honest ive bought sealed steels from the like a zavvi before and they've had similar chips. I paid a fair whack for this but a fair price compared to others on ebay. Should i really ask for a partial refund? I kind of shot myself in the foot by leaving positive feedback already, due to him sending it very well packed and quickly. I know its not perfect but what is these days!? Am i crazy?

Positive feedback does not mean anything, if the item is not as described. The seller will know there are chips on it. If it was sealed, fair enough.

If it was me, I would request a partial refund, or sent it him back. I know you have it now, but that's a very high end price. you should not be paying that for paint chips included. That SOB even makes me mad!

Its up to you. You can open a claim in Ebay and they will support the not as described issue.

^ What he said.

The seller should have stated that the steelbook had those paint chips to begin with. Anyone who charges you that amount of money for a OOP steelbook knows that it's going to be bought by a collector.

i recently bought a large amount of steelbooks from a seller on ebay. 35 of the steels have altered spines. the steelbook is glossy and the outside spine is matte finish. also he forgot the inside artwork so when you open the steelbook there is all white where there shoud be graphics on the spine. i am not happy , just asked the seller if i could return them for a refund. Altering the spine and forgetting the inside artwork looks awful, but doesn't it also make the steelbook worthless in value?:(

I've been selling on ebay for a long time and unfortunately electronics is about the most difficult market to deal with (how easily things can be damaged in transport mixed with the fact electronic/media buyers seem very unreliable, etc)...
As to your question about the non-paying bidders once you open a case against a non-paying bidder they are given a set amount of days to resolve/pay for the item, if there has been no response by the end of this time you can close the case for final value fee credit and they are as stated by e-Bay supposed to "get a mark against their account" so many cases against them can get an account suspended temporarily and in extreme cases completely shut down..
Not too bad of a rap for a lot of the bidders that have brand new e-Bay accounts; they virtually have nothing to lose by bidding on an item and changing their minds..

Hope this helps and sorry it's a bit vague, but when I have talked to ebay customer support they were just as unclear with the response to me so that's all I know on the subject..

Let us know how you get on. There are a few others for sale on ebay, around the price you paid, so there is always a plan b!

Good luck

I messaged him and things got heated. He was adamant the marks were not there before he sent the item. After a long back and forth messaging session, I couldn't be bothered with it. I mean the chips aren't too bad and only an OCD guy like me would really notice them. I couldn't be bothered with taking it further through ebay for the sake of an extra couple of quid. I'll just make do with it, ive wanted it for long time and can put up with the condition. Thanks for the input though mate.

No problem, as long as you are happy, that's the main thing. I am not a big fan of buying off eBay, as I just don't trust the majority of the sellers in there.

I believe in Karma, so I am sure that seller will have to deal with that!

Enjoy your steelbook

This has been a problem with a majority of sellers especially those who don't post enough pictures of the item. They come up with all weird reasons and sometimes demonise the buyers. Classic excuses are

1. It was not there when I sent
2. It could have been caused during transit.
3. You are lying
4. You have switched the item and making false claims
5. Perception of Like new varies from people to people
6. You got a good bargain
7. You should have asked earlier

My point is if the Steelbook is opened spend a minute to check for imperfections prior to listing or packaging. Keep your checks even more stringent on big ticket items. I have my levels of tolerance but not on opened big ticket items.

Sorry for more off topic stuff here, but I really can't believe what I'm reading here anymore! "Demonisation of buyers", seriously? eBay is ALWAYS in favour of the buyers no matter what! There is nothing an honest seller can do if a buyer just says that the steelbook didn't show up (even though the buyer refused to pay for insurance) or it contained all kinds of damages all of a sudden that just weren't there before. There is NOTHING a seller can do - not even leave negative feedback for non-paying bidders....

Back to this instance here. Buyer bought a steelbook, paid for it, received it quickly, was happy with it, left positive feedback, then after-the-fact-OCD kicked in and it no longer was mint and then he started complaining? Honestly, as a seller in this case, I would have told that buyer to f*** off and put him on the bidders block list faster than a speeding bullet...
