Here us a slight guide to the way I glossed mine ok here's what I used

A gravity fed spray gun

Then I used some accelerator and clear coat which I use when I spray cars also added is a slight but if thinners I think it's 2 to 1

The steels are wiped over with cleaners I get rid of grime and oil that fingers can lea e and any oils

Then I spray it in a booth which is heated and has ventilation AND IS HEATED KNOWN AS AN OVEN
Basically it what I use to spray car bits
apuhypa3.jpg

Then spray and leave them to harden at least a day and this will be hard enough to polish to

OH I FORGOTTO ADD A PICTURE OF THE HARDENER AND THE FACT I GET ALL KITTED UP LIKE WALTER WHITE FROM BREAKING BAD ....

WELL A BREATHING MASK AND OVERALLS AS THIS STUFF ISNT GOOD FOR BREATHING IN A CONFINED SPACE

Edited for trading

Caution:

If you polybag your Steels after glossing, ensure that it has dried enough and placed vertically. Do not place horizontally and stack other Steels or anything on top as you risk leaving impression which when left unattended could cause the lacquer to melt and stick on the poly bag.

this Is Very True it happened to 1 or 2 steels. I would recommend leaving them to dry for a longer period of time and possibly where the sun can heat them up.

Guys,

Do check if the lacquer gloss is holding well after few weeks. I am beginning to notice some cracks / spiderweb-like patches.

The ones that were glossed using the Rustoleum spray have no issues proving that it is more durable despite the strong smell and the coarse finish. These Steels are bone dry like a factory glossed Steelbook.

I am thinking of switching back to Rustoleum if more lacquer glossed Steels start melting this way.

The good thing is the cracks go away if you gloss again. I am not sure if this is due to not giving more time to dry or quality of the lacquer or moisture, though I give 2 days to dry.

I checked all the 35 odd Steels I glossed. About 5 / 20 glossed with the lacquer have the cracks. Rest are fine. 3 of them were fixed by applying another coat. Will fix the 2 later as they don't require any immediate attention. Used the hair dryer to dry it. Will leave it to bone dry for 3 days to ensure that the mess isn't repeated. If it continues to crack up even after prolonged drying, I will have to try another product or switch back to Rustoleum at the expense of smoothness or stop glossing.

Think using the hairdryer too . As without seeing them and you say cracking and your doing more than one coat . Then the top layer is drying too fast with a hair dryer whites the underneath layers are still wet and can move which will probably make the surface crack. But even with one coat heating the outside could form a crust while underneath would still be wet and have the ability to move . Well like I say without any pics of what you mean then I am only speculating at what it might be

This is a stunning steelbook and slip combination. The slip is super smooth. This aint normal paper. Great paint job.

The steel has a lovely sparkle when the light hits it. The gloss is mirror like and i've tried to capture it in the photos. Enjoy. I will.

All images can be clicked on for a closer view. They are all high res and can be viewed at full scale.
