So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

The steelbook game has always been about the haves and have nots.

For everyone of those ebay resellers (or members here), that have 10x copies of a certain "rare" steelbook, they might also have numerous copies of another NOT SO rare steelbook.

There are many sellers out there that have many copies of steelbooks that are still readily available from retailers - or even some cases they aren't - but no one wants to pay a premium for them. :hilarious:

In essence, for every "home run" that a seller might hit, they're also maybe sitting on 5x copies of Far Cry.

As seeing a certain reseller that many of us had experience with on another forum - he would buy multiples of everything. Sometimes he got lucky, with Iron Man, and other times he was selling things below his cost.

So that's the game, but as people that have already posted and pointed out very well - there are many avenues for collectors now to get a steelbook.

Yes, you are new to the game, and there are steelbooks that you probably want to have straight away.

But honestly, if you are PATIENT and you can WAIT, there will ALWAYS be another opportunity to get a steelbook.

I think people forget - these things CAN and WILL be reprinted in many capacities - so you might not get THIS one, but you can probably get the NEXT.

Seriously people - if a studio wanted to reprint one of these rare steelbooks, what's to stop them? We're going to see G2 steelbook printing capability in the US soon.

Who is to say that a studio in the US doesn't re-use the design of a rare steelbook. How about Indy 4 in the US when the other Indy's come out on blu-ray? Who knows. But it's possible.

Movie studios and distribution houses are in it for the money - we see time and time again that they RE-RELEASE a movie with more discs, special features, better transfer, whatever.

So let the ebay sellers be, part of that strategy is for you to notice the really high amount or quantity of certain steels and then go in and purchase something at a more "reasonable price".

This thread has been working well for what it is, and as DB said, let's not turn this into a place where we bash other members...

Hope my comments are not too rant-ific - and feel free to PM me if ANY of you'd like to discuss more in depth.

Sorry, guys. I didn't mean to try and turn this into a flame fest, but the thread is entitled "OMG-the price is high on Ebay, etc!!!" and, well, £199.99 for any steelbook is too much IMO, especially one which, if you check the completed items list, doesn't even seem to sell for half that price.

I am very appreciative of this site, and the people who run the GB's, if not for them I would miss out on so many releases which will eventually cost 4-5 x the price. I've said all I wanted to say on the matter, and I'll stand by it, but I apologise if it came across as me having a go at the amazing GB organisers.

I understand what people are saying. For me I buy lots of each title. I actually help move the market for the sellers some times. If I buy lots on ebay I should be able to sell lots back. Just my two cents.

Hey Roverite-not all. There are definitely CRAZY prices out there, and that's exactly what the site is for. Everyone can share their opinion here anytime. 'Collecting' is 'subjective'. Some people will spend way above 199 GBP or any amount to get what they want, and others will not. At different times the market contracts-people sit on Steels. People make a profit. In the end, it's up to each collector or movie fan(some couldn't care less about 'collecting') as to what constitutes a 'crazy' price. Glad this thread is allowing people to discuss this-it's always a 'hot button' issue. As long as everyone attempts to remain respectful, we're good. We'll jump in if things get 'outta hand' ;)

You have pretty normal prices. And you have buy it now's and auctions, which is nice.

You win some you lose some ....

I bought/traded for 13 Limitless NL Steels - even me with all my insider steelbook knowledge of releases didnt get to hear the news of Limitless Canada early ... tho I'm getting official press release and stuff for it (but art will come first to FutureShop) , so yeah ... you win some you lose some ....

I guess it was that unlucky #13 LOL ...

OMG OMG OMG EEK!EEK!EEK!
In my defence....that was a mistake....RECTIFIED...I only have 1 copy!!! :emb:

Olena is telling the truth, she only got one from the group buy.
she is a friendly seller. People don't hate her, hate the system! ;)

Like Mr.SlimJim said "There are bigger rip offs in the real world for things that are important rather than just a hobby like steelbook collecting. "

Look at the freaking gas price, I don't even know who should I blame to?!

I am against high pricing but at the same no one is being forced or persuaded to buy the item. Times are extremely tough nowadays and people are working hard to make ends meet. So, it is natural for some to collect as many copies of potentially rare items and sell it for a profit thus pushing Moral and Ethics to the backseat. No person with commonsense is going to buy a property for 100,000 and sell it for less unless the person is in desperate need for quick money or the person is affluent or wins a lottery. Same principle applies to a vast majority of sellers at eBay. If you hate these high prices just turn a blind eye. Don't get frustrated and vent your anger as ultimately you will be the sufferer. As always Patience is Virtue.

if theres no sticker, is it possible its been resealed?

Most likely his isn't. It's doubtful he'd risk his reputation. But anythings possible I guess. I've heard of people resealing. So you never know. If I got an IM sealed it'd have to have a sticker for sure. Just too valuable a steel when it's sealed to risk it IMO

so for once i'm putting a low ending steelbook on here

http://www.ebay.com/itm/35055498199...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_894wt_1165

trying to figure out why it ended under $150

i probably would have bought it if i wasn't in the car driving home from the airport with my mom, she would have flipped if i pulled out my ipad on the highway to bid :hilarious:

other than that, the only reason i didn't bid was because the seller kept making excuses about why she couldn't send me additional pictures.

It's scratched like crazy. That's the main reason it went so low. Many people dont' want one that's scratched like that. The description says that the scratches are minor. But, if I can see them in a poor picture like that, then you know you're gonna be disappointed when you get it.

But, some people don't mind that amount of scratching and just want an Iron Man in their collection.

I don't mind some scratches or light damage but even I have my limits.
