So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

I give Socrates a fair amount of respect for his audacity, resourcefulness and acumen. He gets rare steels, he sells rare steels. I am sure he is not making a loss. Everyone must remember collecting steel IS expensive. And Socrates is almost single-handedly trying to raise the game, propelling steelbook collecting to the next level. Whilst people moan and groan about steelbook prices, and intermittenly are laughing at him behind his back, he is laughing his way to the bank. Now, who doesnt secretly wish to be the latter?

We all laugh at some of his listings, but Socrates is a good dude. He stimulates the steelbook economy. He somehow manages to get the prices he does, but he also buys from other steelbook traders.

Iron Sky Jpn could end up the same as Ted Korea. It has a red hot slip.

Hmm, I doubt it. Ted Kr had a print run of only 100. It's ridiculously difficult to get hold of even in Korea.

Iron Sky meanwhile had a run of 4000, which is a decent quantity for a movie of only minor interest. And because it wasn't an Amazon exclusive it can still be readily picked up in major Japanese stores (it's in nearly every HMV for example). It might seem like a rare steel to Western eyes because order restrictions existed for export, but there are plenty of copies in circulation (Amazon merchants, Yahoo Auctions etc), and it's pretty easy to get for anybody with a Japanese connection. So nothing like grail material in terms of availability. At least for now.

Not that this will stop the usual suspects from charging an arm and a leg for it when it hits eBay of course

It works both ways for the average collector. The sky-high prices demanded by eBay merchants helps drive up the value of the steels we own (the Asian ones particularly), but you have to remember that those kinds of sellers are pretty efficient in combing eBay and vacuuming up any decent bargains before the rest of us can get to them. The net effect being that the whole business of collecting (Asian) steelbooks is prised away from the average collector and elevated towards an elite class of the affluent. Which of course is exactly what those sellers want.

The only way to keep pace with all this is to be as savvy and resourceful as the merchants, and to develop various alternate lines of supply. At least then you can sit back and smile at all the rank profiteering that's going on, content that you're not one of its victims.

Already on Ebay at stoopid prices.
This greedy get, in Manchester has obviously pre ordered 5 and wants an astounding £37 each.
Are people so thick that if an item is being sold as a `Pre Order`, then they can just `Pre Order` it with a quick google search, for its original price, and not get stung by vultures.

I know exactly what you mean.

I was lucky enough to get a pre-order in for Skyfall, but just recently wanted to get one for my mates birthday, went on Ebay (thinking I'd pay about £20) and people are charging £45 for them.

I won't pay it.

They are doing a "best offer".

I say we should all offer £10.00 since it will be second hand by the time it gets to us.

Same here, with a nice little message for the seller :D

You can send a message with the offer??? Damn! Missed that! But got my offer for a tenner in!

Pity..he declined my offer so sent one at 15 saying c'mon mate, 15 is retail. :hilarious:

Maybe we will need to do this with all of these sellers?

Fair enough, some sellers sell genuinely OOP steels for high prices, but for ones that will be widely available, there is no excuse!
