Sounds promising Wreck. Play turned out such a gem with their exclusive that I was hoping they would try and prevent anyone else getting the same version.

Will this have English subtitles? It only has German subtitles listed in the product details on Amazon.

Too soon to tell. Amazon.de usually only lists a few supported subtitles. I am pretty sure it'll have english subs as well, since most german releases have those.
For example the Snow White SB contains 10 diff. subtitles (including english), but amazon.de only mentions 4.

If you check the actual UK disc it only has UK and Irish Certification and no others. Also UK Disc only had UK subs nothing else so a new print of the disc will need to be made if it hasn't been released on Blu in Germany yet. Not uncommon for Non English Steels in Germany to only have native language and German subs or audio

Yup, this will have different front art at the very least. I can't take all the thanks on this, I was simply a messenger and an avid SteelBook supporter and retailer in Play.com made this change possible. That's one more win for the good guys! (SteelBook Collectors)

I could imagine that it will have no English on the disc and I`m very sure that they will only have the international version of the film on the disc and not the uncut. So the UK Version will remain the superior product.

No one would have a problem if the artwork was different, but this release just ***** all over the people who paid a premium to get a Steelbook they thought was becoming rare. Rarity is a part of collecting which needs to be kept in my opinion. Play.com have done a good job so far at releasing great films and in limited numbers so I hope this is just a one off and not a trend. The fact that every release isn't available in huge numbers and cheaply makes it a much more enjoyable hobby. How fun would it be without group buys, trading and the hype around a new release?

Doesnt the original Play.com price translate into what Amazon.de is selling it for, right? Man, this is realy turning me off.

Collecting steels for your own enjoyment whether its for a movie u like or just like the look of a steelbool is my reason for collecting. Do not care less about value. I like steelbooks for my own personal pleasure and prefer collecting them for that sole reason. Best thing i like about collecting is opening them and putting them up on my shelves...simple as!

Regardless, it seems real lame that people would be mad about some of these things I read on here. And I bet 97% of these collectors have spent thousand of dollars on there Steelbook Collection just to stack them on top of each other in cheap wooden "closed" cabinets never to be seen again.

So what you find lame is people that want to keep their expensive blu-rays sealed, intact, & at the peak of their collectibility?

so I'm guessing once you have bought a new collectible comic book, sports card, or action figure, the first thing you do is take it out of it's packaging and play with it, amirite?

Blumaster, I'm not talking about opening anything. What I referred to as lame is when I read people are willing to lose interest or walk away from something they love or like just because it becomes more available to others. These are often the collectors that want something just to say they have it and when they get it, it doesnt matter anymore hints: "stack them on top of eachother in closed off cabinet never to be seen again." As far as "To open or not to open" It doesn't matter, but if your enjoyment is based off monetary value and not what it means to you, well, your bound to lose interest anyway.

I can still see why people would want to stop collecting steelbooks based off re-releases though. I sourced a copy of The Raid when it was on pre-order and than decided to get a 2nd copy after release based on it's perceived rarity. Including shipping, I paid just under $60 for it. While it was being shipped to me, amazon.de released the image of the play.com steelbook on their page for 20 euros. Did I just waste $30? If amazon.de released the same steelbook, I would be. And that perceived rarity would be gone.
