I am frustrated, tempted to cancel my order with them and then put it on and in store pickup since it says it available and force the morons to look for these arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sir, it's possible they had to force the system into backorder for these, because the actual release date may not be until 5/29. If the regular distribution facility that dropships their orders to be shipped home, got these, then they should ship. However, it's tough to know whether only stores got them, or they will also ship, as other items do. Mine originally said I could pick up on 5/22. Then it said, changed to 5/25, and when I got to the store they were there ready for pickup...but not on the floor. While they didn't have to look for mine, and seemed to be getting them from the back, maybe all of this is caused because they are not technically released yet. I don't know-I do wish you all the best in getting it all sorted out. Sadly much confusion surrounding this process...

So, I got mine after a little searching - I think they call this Cart Sniping! :oohyeah: They hadn't placed them on the floor yet ao I appeared to be the first in my area to access these. I agree with Babe that it will be interesting to see if wire shelving will be an adequate temporary plug for now.

Did we confirm that every SB was without artwork? If so, I wonder why that happened, especially for the higher priced ones. Is anyone planning to open these to confirm? :ohno:

Ok just got off the phone with Best Buy and the only one on backorder was the Shawshank Redemption the other two are going to ship. So they have Book of Eli and Sucker Punch being shipped to me. I canceled the Shawshank because hey since there is like 10 titles I want anyways and can only afford 3 now I can keep shopping and trying my store.

I think I will try and order a Sherlock Holmes (thought this would go great with Sherlock 2 that I plan on getting as either a CA or hopefully if we get a US release of it) as a store pickup and screw with them.

And crap I wish I had been able to get a couple extra Ghost Riders so I could turn my copies into combo packs of anything I am double dipping on (the only Ghost Rider I got someone from another forum sent me for free as my best buy never had them). It would be nice to put my dvd copies in with my bluray in my steels and throw the dvd amray away.

Just got back from my local Best Buy, 2nd trip in as many days and nothing on the floor. Checked through every aisle and nothing. Floor people never seem to know what steelbooks are, kind of funny. - "Can I help you?" ..... "Apparently not."
Anyhow, after awhile they said that they will not be on display until 5/29/12, much like other people experienced and the on-line ordering option for in-store pickup only has a pre-order option with a release date of 5/22/12...hmmmmm. Apparently Best Buy found a wormhole - Awesome!

Oh well, until Tuesday...

*side note - trip was not a total loss, I did manage to pick up the deluxe edition of the latest Garbage album. Glad they are back together.

Donovan-a production line for Blu-Ray sized Steelbooks very recently started in the US. A 'wave' this large is not necessarily typical, but it just may be that they decided to come out with a bang since it's the first time Steelbooks will become released on a regular basis in the US. But who knows what the future holds, for all we know we'll see more waves of this size...stay tuned.

I don't mean to rain on the parade and I know folks in the US are really excited now that they will get their own steelbook releases and such but this really is another re-release situation all over again with the exception of 4 of them if Im correct and 1 being a steelbook with same art instead of iron pack. And a lot of defensive posts to justify the re-releases this time around.

Its really sad there are so many re-releases IMO. It ruins the hobby-really. Especially if it starts happening in the biggest consumer market in the world. I really hope that the US will get NEW steelbooks and they (studios) don't just decide to re-release everything all over again because its such a big market and they know they will sell.

Not sure if Im alone in this or what. Im hanging on here but Im really starting to think its a good time to get out while your ahead sort of situation. What's so special about something that everyone has? I know that sounds shallow but isn't that what this was all about... having cool, collectible art work pieces of movies we love that were "special/collectible editions". If every title gets a re-release, and gets a steelbook counterpart to the regular amaray... whats so "special/collectible" any more about em?

Im a sucker for this stuff so I guess Ill probably keep at it, lol, but man re-releases suck. I really hope USA gets NEW steelbook releases moving forward and hopefully ones that are "true exclusives".

Just my thoughts on this wave. Excited that the US is getting steel's but bummed at the re-releases.

I agree pretty much with everything your saying, however, they are not 100% re-releases as they are missing inner art which is exclusive to their canadian counterparts.

But yeah, I felt a little gutted too when I first clicked on this thread and saw all these steels flood the market.

I hope this new USA factory doesn't just pump out cheap replicas like this and gets some new fresh art going.

steelbook86, your sentiments are echoed by collectors everywhere, more so by those who have been collecting for a while. Again, though the artwork is recycled for many titles in this wave, this is technically NOT a re-release since these titles have never been released before in the US. Yes they were released previously in other countries but to the US collectors, this is the first time. I may be wrong here but many of us long time collectors want to see new artwork for such "re-releases" in a new country. It makes the steelbooks, like you said, something "cool, collectible art work pieces of movies we love." Unfortunately, I believe this is almost impossible in this case because:

- the US G2 line just came online a few weeks ago, meaning test runs and constant quality assessments/adjustments to be expected in its maiden run,
- there is no proven retailer who has sufficient experience in handling these collectibles with a good record of minimizing damaged inventory,
- there is no experience in the supply chain to handle these collectibles during shipping (this wave was shipped together in a giant cardboard box to each store with NO special protection whatsoever), and
- there must be a studio who is willing to "sacrifice" some of their titles for new artwork from a new factory with no proven record of delivery.

I am totally confident there will be day and date new steelbook releases in the US very soon based on what I have seen of this wave. As I have said previously, I believe this wave was a test run to measure the capacity and efficiency of this new line and instead of dumping/burning these steelbooks (missing inside art?), they simply decided to put them out for sale. This may appear to "dilute" the value of almost identical steelbooks in the wild but I see this more as "door prizes" for future collectors as a precursor for those awesome new titles to come in the months ahead. Personally I think this is a great move to make sure those new titles are released in the highest quality and that there is minimal kinks from factory to shelf.

Digitalbabe I have an X3 G1 and a V for Vendetta G1 that very few people have. I think everyone's collections are unique (I remember a time when almost every collection looked the same during the early days of G1) and I love that I can pick up some of these steels I wanted but didn't want to pay a premium from CA for.

Then again my Best Buy sucks monkey balls and is so out of it (we never even got Ghost Rider) that I think I will have to order anything I want off best buy.com
