How could anyone not pick this one up. It is a masterpiece. I watched it not to long ago and it sure was fun to watch. Going to have to watch it again.

Maybe people are waiting for a price drop on a catalogue title (I know I will be)

And april is so bloody busy anyway it makes sense to me that people might actually wait. Time will tell

That was fast but I sort of expected this to sell out fast as it looks great and price is not bad
The Blu-ray is fantastic picture quality with decent extras

Its a classic Si-Fi film amazing special effects for its time it was way ahead of anything before and after until star wars was released

The film impact was very big when released and had big impact with NASA development of space craft and effects of space travel

The film had a big influence with early development of International Space Station Design

It's available from Amazon France and Germany for a similar price.

Not to be a nitpicker @augustus- but Jonathan Nolan's INTERSTELLAR was long (2 years) in development with Steven Spielberg's company before his brother took it over. Of course, Chris Nolan is hugely influenced by 2001 (and says so, in no uncertain terms), but the original blueprint should be attributed to Jonathan Nolan.
I may agree with you about the ending- I need a few more viewings first.;)

@C.C. 95 Always good to get a response from you.

I've no desire to get into a pedantic tit for tat exchange but I was referring to the two films, as opposed to the literary works on which they were based. Hence, Stanley Kubrick's "2001" vis a vis Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar", as opposed to Arthur C. Clarke's "2001" vis a vis Jonathan Nolan's "Interstellar".

The latter film is clearly a visual homage to Kubrick by Christopher Nolan, whatever ideas his brother had come up with during the development of its screenplay.

And yes, its ending could have been so much better, especially when you compare it to the ending of another Nolan film, "Inception". That film, like Kubrick's, left it to the viewer to ponder upon its meaning and people have been doing so, with both of those films, ever since.

I saw "Interstellar" twice at the cinema and will be getting it on Blu-ray but somehow I don't see posterity treating it as kindly as they have "2001: A Space Odyssey".

No need to disagree, as we mostly agree!;)
I hope INTERESTELLAR ages well like INCEPTION. I certainly always appreciate that Nolan packs his material densely enough that there is a lot to chew on for awhile afterwards!
But, I am a very odd critic- I never trust my first impression of a movie (way too many conscious and unconscious factors influencing our first viewing-whether we admit it or not). A second viewing brings it more into focus (less watching the 'wow' factors, and paying more attention to structure and detail). And the subsequent viewings sort of crystallize what I really feel as A) a cinephile holding it up to the highest scrutiny and B) A guy who just wants a great, fun movie. So, I don't really judge a film until way further down the line!
Having seen INTERSTELLAR only once in theaters-I really need to view it a few more times before really crystallizing my feelings for it.
But, you are correct that he is, without question, visually paying homage to Kubrick.
Heck, it even has its own quasi-'stargate', 'slit-scan'-esque sequence!!
(Now, I really wanna Google if Douglas Trumball has commented on the film!!).
I wish more filmmakers payed homage to Kubrick!
A young director canonizing and aping (no pun intended) 2001 is welcome in my book...
Especially when we live in a time when young directors canonize mediocre films from their childhoods in the early 90's. (Example: Jurassic Park may be fun- But it is just 'set-piece' after 'set-piece' cobbled to resemble a movie- when in fact, it is more like a movie ride at Disneyland).
:D
P.S. -I always look forward to your musings! Thanks!

This is most likely back available to pre-order due to ordering and reordering with discount codes
We will most likely see this happen with lot of recent pre-orders

This will sell out for real at some stage due to its price and in my opinion the artwork looks great
