Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

You're having about as much luck as I am surfury!

Today I received a replacement BluRay (not a steel, but a cardboard case)... JB Hifi sent me the one I sent to them to be replaced!!! IDIOTS.

Sorry but that's a real facepalm.

Well, well, well, same impersonalised email albeit in English like the last one. Less than 10 minutes and they're sending me another copy.

Someone has stolen my picture for a eBay listing

I hope this is right thread if not apologies. Someone is using my picture for a eBay listing. I tried contacting the seller but no luck.

This why I always put my signature on my pic's. Please do not buy from this person.

Link.

@ desmondc: That happened to me before. Some guy has used my picture of my Wanted MM for his listing but i kept a close look on that auction and it seems everything had worked fine for the guy who bought it. I still do not like it if someone uses my pictures without asking.

Desmond, I think your pics are one of if not the best but looks like you're going to have to move your watermark actually over the Steel itself. You could always report it to eBay and see what they do, they might even stop the auction to remove what is clearly a stolen image.

Thanks Surfury, I will move the watermark from now on. I will let this one go because I think they are being genuine, and the auction ends today.

Can someone help me who has had to return a damaged Steelbook to get a replacement from yesasia? They say they will only reimburse you for the cost of regular air mail. What does that mean? The cheapest way I can find to ship it in proper packaging is $16.95 flat rate international from the US. I emailed them asking if that was an appropriate way to ship it and if I would get reimbursed and they just pulled a generic paragraph from their FAQ that didn't really answer my question. Is there a cheaper way to send it?

Because I get pissed off easy, I'd just paper envelope it back, what's more damage going to do :p

Correct. If you report the problem to ebay, and you can show them that the picture is indeed yours, they will remove the listing.

Choose the "Report this listing" link on the auction. Select copyright and trademark.

Use the images / text copied from your listing if the image is from an earlier e-bay auction that you posted. Or choose the other option.

I would suggest to anyone that hosts pictures in photobucket, etc that you watermark your picture in the future.

You'll note that if you upload the image to this forum, it will watermark it automatically for you. Maybe we can make the watermark bigger or more centered for things on here.

Hope that helps.

When you send it back, you MUST use a service that allow ebay to track it. You can't use the cheapest shipping method back to him without tracking. He's going to say that he never received it and eBay is going to ask for the tracking proof that it was delivered. If you can't provide that, then you lose your movie and your money.

In the future, always always email the seller about the condition of the case. Make sure you ask about dent and scratches. I always ask the seller to send it with cardboard box and bubble padding. If seller is not willing to send it that way, then I avoid it. I hate dealing with dispute...such a waste of time and stress.

Good luck.

So I sent the following message to the seller of the damaged Gladiator steelcase:

seller's reply:

What a cop-out! The title states "Mint Condition" so why would I email to ask about the case?! The seller pretends to not know that anyone would purchase the item for the metal cover, yet ensures that "WITH METAL COVER" is advertised in a massive font size!!

Auction: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160745925808&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123

Looks like I'll be opening a dispute, and no doubt will have to send it bakc at my expense.

I sent another message, showing my disbelief at their reply:

Not an experienced eBayer and this maybe OT (if so sorry aps) but if one established a line of communication within eBay mail system that you would pay for shipping in a box for $x or £y whatever, would that help ?

So, I bought this steelbook (notice the photo is taken in dull lighting) on eBay and was over the moon as I'd finally got my hands on one of my most sought after steels. Firstly, the seller didn't even dispatch it until a week after I'd paid. Secondly, once it arrived and I opened it, this was the condition it was in... view photos.

The thing that annoys me the most is that the seller thinks it's acceptable to describe an item in this condition as "like new". I've shown him eBay's definition of "like new" (An item that looks like it has just been taken out of its shrink wrap. No visible wear, and the item is flawless and intact), and yet he still refuses to accept that the actual condition it's in is "used". He won't let me return it, so the closest I've got to any kind of refund is a partial refund of £5 - what a joke.

Please tell me I'm not just being picky and that you'd all feel the same!

Noodles, open a case with ebay as the item not as described. They will force the seller to take it back and give you a full refund if you find the condition unacceptable.

Make sure you document the case with the images that you have linked here and any other information you have.

Hope that helps.

No I would be exactly the same as you. That's nowhere near like new. It is more like very good but with several imperfections. I hope you get your money back, the steelbook was definitely falsely advertised.

Item description is just one thing. eBay recommends bidders to read sellers description of the item.

For example, I can have a brand New item which is unfortunately damaged. In this situation, I clearly describe the damages and expose them as pictures but still describe as New. However, if I fail to describe the damages but continue advertising the item as New then I have to take full responsibility.

Sorry, I somehow forgot to mention I've already opened a case... I messaged him explaining that I was unhappy with the condition, but he didn't seem to understand and started accusing me of just wanting to resell it etc, so I opened a case.

It's been going for a few days now and he's no longer replying to me. He claims to have more photos of the item before he posted it, and yet he's failed to actually show me them, so I'm not planning to show him the ones I've taken either... I will send them straight to eBay! I've just got to wait until the 21st so I can escalate the case to customer support.

Thanks for the support and advice, apsmith. I will start documenting everything immediately. :)
