Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

damn shame about that damaged steels in here especially that Iron Man xMicheil. I just sold some pretty valuable steel's and Im so glad they got to there new owners safe and sound. Sucks when you sell an item for big bucks or buy one only to have it damaged in transit.

yes, I'm speaking from experience. If you deal directly with the seller, then he/she can send you the a shipping label initiated by ebay. Any email outside of ebay is not tracked. If you open a dispute case, then it's different as I understand it.

I don't know if you're speaking from experience, but when I recently had trouble with a seller and had to return the item, eBay kindly sent me a shipping label via email, so postage was all covered by them and tracked, which I was really impressed with. :D

You can ask the seller if he will cover the postage return. Several months ago, I received a bad metalpack case, and the seller sent me a case replacement only. So far, the seller didn't ask me to return the bad metalpack case. I did open a case with eBay, but I closed it once I was happy with the replacement.

Contact the seller. If you are not happy with the response, then open a case. They'll tell you what you need to do...first, they asked you to communicate with the seller and negotiate. The first step is that they put both buyer and seller in a communication email. And then you have certain number of days for the seller to respond back, and it goes back and forth. If that doesn't resolve it, then it gets escalated for someone to review it. That's when you start sending the item back and it tells you that you need to use a service with tracking and you need to enter the tracking info in the case for eBay to review it.

i recently received a damage steelbook from overseas ebay. it would cost me a lot of money to return it with tracking since its international

does it mean theres no point in returning it?

I have said that so many times before. But there are some very good sellers out there who care about what they sell on ebay. Its just a question of finding out who they are.

Well, when they find out who you are Terry then they will know you definitely care about what you sell! :D

Reports are flooding in, about many of the Play.com Mission Impossible 4 SteelBook exclusive being dented, scratched, squashed etc.

Seems like they were just talking a load of BS when they told Wreck that they were going to improve their packaging.

I'm worried about the Universal and Fox exclusives being damaged as well.

Get your bloody act together Play!

The reports are correct. I have spoke to a few people now who have Mission IV including myself and dints are becoming widespread talk. I am glad for those who have got theirs through dint free.

I have ordered another one. But I will return my dinted one once the new one arrives safe.

4 things about MI4 Play.com exclusive issues:

1. Manufacturing related (not sure) - visible and hidden dents, paint issues etc
2. Dozens of Steelbooks stacked on top of each other, forcing the glues to cause dents (possible)
3. Rough handling (possible)
4. Poor packaging (very much possible)

As I said, I am returning 5 out of 7 due to issues, for a refund. Don't need this anymore as getting the Australian and China ones which are the complete set.

Poor show Play. Also a good lesson to OCD collectors who keep their SB sealed

Me too. Don't trust the new one to arrive dented either though, so I hope that I can make a good steelbook from the two.

^ Why should you have to do that though? You are paying good money for a collectable SteelBook. No one should have to buy multiple copies in the hope that they will get one or two mint ones.

I bought mine from JB Hi-Fi after cancelling my Play order, but I really feel for you guys getting these damaged goods.

IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN PLAY!

Look's like I'm going to have to fight my case. The seller is insisting the blame doesn't lie with him, & that because he ships all his DVD & Blu-Rays like that the packaging was sufficient. He also claims that it's something customs probably did & he has proof :dunno: :angry:

Customs? what customs are doing in this story??? And why they would do that? I'm curious to see his proof! He follows customs at each border or what?! :hilarious:

Don't worry, paypal would probably give you right in this case because the package was not sufficient at all! They always protect buyers! I hate this type of seller!

Coronado-it's unfortunate that we don't yet have a firm deadline from Play, as to when exactly the new packaging will take effect (and one was never posted by this site), but based on direct info, a plan was put in place to start to enact measures in the future, that should help Steel collectors going forward.

Hopefully we see these vast improvements very soon-no one wants their collectibles smashed to bits during transit. If any other info becomes available regarding more exact time frames it will be posted.

Like several other retailers who previously packaged poorly, but then finally heard the cries of the community, at least Play has said they are making an effort to improve things. It's taken years for the likes of some of the Amazon sites to react, so lets hope Play's logistics improvements come faster.

Good luck to us all-

DB
