Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

You will be fine m8. They will prob ask you to return it but make sure you send it tracked as he will say it did not arrive. By the way it will cost about £10 to send it which you will have to pay I am afraid

It took Amazon precisely 3.5 years of Blu-ray Steelbooks to start packaging better. And not even all Amazon Countries follow that practice ; just a few.

While it may have been a while that Play has shipped this way as well ; we still got a retailer talking to me DAILY and just as gutted as many of you that its not in 100% affect just yet. A movie title comes to mind "Lost In Translation" ... passing a long info down the line doesnt always bring the correct results the first time ... but your cries have been heard and have been passed a long with pics etc. ... it speaks volumes and their is more priority to this matter then ever before.

Lets show some class, and not attack a retailer who is coming forward to work with our community ... give em' a little bit of a break? If you get tons of damages come the wave in June ... then be classless :p but in no way have myself or HDN ever said it would be fixed by MI4 ... it was reported here by a member (to whom I cant recall) who said on another forum it would be in affect by MI4 ... I confirm only with what I speak with .. and I speak directly, hence I hadn't heard such info thus I never confirmed it.

In just a couple months time after my original announcement you will receive better packaged steelbooks. No matter how you look at it ; I still think that it will be a testament of our community and a success for all parties involved. That surely beats the years of us all complaining to the Amazon's.

Hey guys, I'm receiving a Steelbook via Media Mail.. How long should I expect it to arrive and will it arrive good condition? I thought it was gonna be regular mail but seller was Cheap and sent Media mail.

Hey Ex-Media Mail takes 4-14 days within the US, and is one of the slowest methods. Arrival condition can be hit or miss. Sometimes it's a good idea to ask if you can pay for upgraded shipping (1st class is only a bit more), and ask them to ship in a box. Since Media Mail can take longer than other methods, the packages tend to get bounced around more. If the person sent with padding and in a box you may still be ok, but I've seen Steels sent that way via Media Mail and they were destroyed...good luck.

Arrived today... No idea what happened, package was fine and the steels were protected.

How sad is this :(

Such lovely steels too, what a shame! If packaging was fine they would have had to be bounce around a fair bit for that damage to happen :(

Coronado-it's unfortunate that we don't yet have a firm deadline from Play, as to when exactly the new packaging will take effect (and one was never posted by this site), but based on direct info, a plan was put in place to start to enact measures in the future, that should help Steel collectors going forward.

Hopefully we see these vast improvements very soon-no one wants their collectibles smashed to bits during transit. If any other info becomes available regarding more exact time frames it will be posted.

Like several other retailers who previously packaged poorly, but then finally heard the cries of the community, at least Play has said they are making an effort to improve things. It's taken years for the likes of some of the Amazon sites to react, so lets hope Play's logistics improvements come faster.

Good luck to us all-

DB

I know that the packaging wasn't expected to improve almost immediately, and its nice to know that things are still on track, but it seems that its not only the poor packaging that is causing damage to our precious SteelBooks. Thoughts from several collectors is that they are damaged before shipping by pickers or distributors. Even the best packaging wont improve that.

I think this is good enough reason for play.com to change the packaging for steelbook shipping

Come on, you know you dropped it outside, then ran your car over it, it was dirty so you put in the washer, and then the dryer. Don't do that, it's not good for the steel.

Just got a response from eBay, I'm getting a full refund :oohyeah: They gave me a voucher for 25% of Parcel Force too. Really happy as the seller was being pretty cocky last night saying I wouldn't get a refund :p

Ugh just saw it wanted me to use Global Priority mail which is about £50. Would Royal Mail International Signed For be ok? It tracks it in the UK & a signature is required apon arrival? Thats about £10 so I'd much rather use that :p Delivery time is about 4 days.
