Hi guys,

I am kind of new to the forum. I wonder what one would have to do to have at least a chance to get one of these HDzeta special editions. I keep reading this groupbuy thing but I don't really understand how it works and how one can participate. Would someone care to explain?

Thanks in advance!

there might not be any group buy at all for this

Why do group buys even exist? What is their advantage?

I'm no master historian on the topic, but I'm pretty sure they were created to help people obtain blu rays released in certain regions that only ship within their own country.

Like the Mondo releases. I join group buys for them, because I live in the United States, and the Mondo steelbooks are only available through Canadian retailers that ship only to Canadian addresses. So, without group buys, I am not able to buy one at all.

Now, as to why there are group buys for websites that ship internationally...that's a good question. The best answer is probably ease. A lot of times, websites crash, servers fail, and things sell out extremely quick. So people join group buys to guarantee they get a copy. Is it a little unfair? Maybe. But it's one of the only ways to be 100% certain you'll get a release you really want.

Many thanks for the time and effort you spent to answer my question. But one thing is still not clear to me: who organizes these group buys and how can the responsible person be sure he will get all the orders placed? Does this person work for the retailer and what is his/her motivation? Is there a premium you pay for group buy option compared to normal retail price?

There are a few designated users on this forum that host group buys. They don't necessarily work for the companies, but most of the time have a connection within that allows them to get a hold of a certain number. The motivation is just to be a good person and help others. As far as HDN goes, you do pay a donation to the website for server fees, other things. The individual usually doesn't make any money, but some people do give personal donations for their time and effort. Usually the GB fees are a couple dollars. Other websites have GB's as well, but I've found HDN to be the best. Everyone who does them are established within the community, and very trust worthy.

That sounds really great. So if I see a group buy I want to participate in, do I need so sign up somewhere first or do I just reply to the group buy post?

You first have to make 20 non spammy posts (these posts are fine!), and then the group buy section of this site will open up. Basically, just float around, contribute some worthwhile discussion and comments on things you're interested in, and you'll be set. Typically, when a group buy opens up, you simply comment with how many you want, and the country which you live. Then once the host hits their limit, they will close the group. You pay for it once the host sends out an invoice, usually in private messages. You're on your way!

You go to the Group Buy Section which is located farther down from Steelbooks. Look and see if there are any Group Buys your interested in, Please read the terms and conditions carefully: Prices, Shipping, Fee's, ect. are all different. Once you read through those, make a post explaining what you want, if there is more than one choice, and then how many copies you would like and what country your from. Then as the preorder for that specific item gets closer, how close or sometimes after, you will get a private message that will indicate payment instructions. This is all very self explanatory if you go to the Group Buy section and read the posts above the Group Buys concerning rules and help.

Sounds like an amazing system. Can't wait to try it :) Thank you!
