Can we get a sticky for this? :D

What do ya'll prefer to drink? Beer, Wine, Hard Liquor, Wine Coolers? All of them?

I only drink Beer and Hard Liquor. Mint Mojito is about the only thing close to a wine cooler I'll drink though LOL

I'm going to probably try to learn/start up the home brew process sometime this year. :scat: I've got some housework to get done first, and then I'll have a room downstairs that would be perfect for the storage. I've seen a lot of good ideas on here, and I've got a guy in my unit that's a big home brew fan. I would expect to see a steady flow of stouts rolling out of my house once I start.

Other than that, I'm a big fan of Crown (Regular, Select, XR, #16). I've got a bottle and a half of the Select at home right now.

I just posed for the pic. I actually don't like drinking "motor oil" out of a glass. I am, however, up for trying new things. :D

Guinness is surprisingly light for my tastes, if I'm going to drink it I generally will opt for the fuller extra stout. Guinness itself just isn't good unless its out of a clean tap straight from the keg, period.

anyone every have Brooklyn Black Ops Stout? The store I go to has only 12 bottles and i dunno if i wanna get it at 19.99 a bottle. I has an A rating on BA.

Don't think I'd pay $20 for a bottle of it - that's practically extortion.

So I watched Beer Wars last night on Netflix instant queue and I enjoyed it. They had Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head and Jim Koch from Boston Beer Company along with others. It was interested to see what the big beer companies do to get rid of the little guys. I honestly dont think i ever wanna purchase anything from the big companies again. check it out.

I've heard that it's really good.

But ultimately you keep supporting the lil guys and they become the big guys ... its a vicious cycle. :p

Since German Beer was brought up in the shout box, I'll continue here. A couple of years ago, I got to go to Germany for two weeks with the National Guard. I got to try several different types, and most were really good. The thing that really surprised me was that most towns have their own specialty. We were in Bamberg. Their specialty was rauchbier or smoked beer. It was like drinking beer with bacon in it!

I've also been able to find it occasionally here in the States.

That's the beer I told Horhay about a few pages back when he posted pics of his local beerstore

This beer is strangely addictive. Not for everyone though.. for some people I guess the smoke is just too intense, I find it wonderful after the first few sips go down

I have a chocolate stout that I want to bottle this weekend, but I just checked my sanitizer and I don't have enough:( I hate to place an order for just sanitizer and pay the shipping fee, you guys know of anything that works well and that I can get at a local grocery store?

bleach

1 tablespoon per gallon of water, 20 minutes contact time, rinse with sterile water (distilled water from the store, or boil water for 15 minutes to sterilize)

The rinse is to ensure no off-flavors, however at this dilution it is technically safe enough to not require rinsing (or even cause odor), but really - why chance it? A quick rinse with sterile water should be good.

You can also use your oven.. bake your bottles with a piece of aluminum foil over the top... according to john palmer once the bottle has reached 338F it takes 1 hour to sterilize the bottles... although since most bottles are soda lime glass you'd be wise once the oven is off to let it naturally cool down (i.e. don't open the door) for an hour or so. So put your bottles in, crank to 340, and bake for an hour and 15 minutes .. then let cool for an hour or two before removing.. so long as the foil stays on the bottle it will be sterile forever!

You know what I also just thought of your dishwasher.. don't use soap and run it through the hot wash/heated dry cycle.. should sterilize it, no? just put the bottles in upside down

Chocolate stout is really good. I'm a big fan of Young's Double Chocolate Stout.

I was watching Iron Chef America the other day and it was Michael Symon vs Duff Goldman. They were using that to cook with and were also drinking it. I've had it once before it was good. I'm just not a fan a beer in cans.

Young's Double Chocolate in cans? No way!
