Just to clarify my original post. When I click the drop down menu on play.com for blu-ray then select Steelbooks, Oldboy does not appear. When I specifically search for Oldboy in the search bar I find it. I'm sure this happened for Battle Royale as well because everyday I went in looking for it and there was nothing. Now I find its sold out. Sad face

I hope this is a one off and Play isnt going the HMV way of just a cardboard box for steels

No Foam or anything just the box :(

Got Glengarry Glen Ross & The Shawshank Redemption today. Both dispatched on the 17th.
They arrived in a cardboard, packed together with no protection at all. They where luckily mint though.

I had to pay customs. Over £20! Why don't they send out each item individual, like they used too anymore?

Nowadays, it seems like if two or more titles get released the same day they just send them all in one package, and that sucks.
Not only do they take up to two weeks before they arrive, because of customs, but Ill have to pay a lot more too.

I understand what you are saying avout the customs but I think most people prefer to have their Steelbooks all sent together. A lot of people were calling for them to do that instead of sending seperate packages so I don't think we can blame play for doing this.

Thanks for replying Sigill.

I didn't know that. But for those of us living outside of UK this is not good.
I prefer the new packaging with foam. This was not packed very well at all.

And like I said it will cost us much more money. So now I can can expect my two Battle Royale and one Oldboy to be shipped in one package? This will cost me, and I pray they will arrive mint.

I called them regarding this, if there's any chance they can make sure to send every item separately, and they said that unfortunately not. However, they said that I should send them all the details of the customs expenses and they will refund all of the extra costs. So you should definitely try that, I haven't had time to send the info yet so I don't know if they'll actually keep their word, but it's worth giving it a shot.

Yeah, the new way they combine multiple orders and items into single shipments is becoming a big problem. I've had to pay import taxes and customs fees for three recent Play shipments. Just today I received 4 steelbooks with a total value of 62 euros and I had to pay 33 euros in taxes and fees. At this rate I won't be able to use Play unless I make sure to order only single items with different ship dates.

On top of that, one of the steelbooks was pretty heavily damaged. Seems it must have received a big blow or been crushed at some point as it has a dent and the spine is bent. Not fun. :/

Had my first Hermes order from Play today. No surprises, in that within 10 seconds of knocking on the door they had already chucked the parcel over the side gate to lie there in the pouring rain and gotten back in their car. No card, so if I hadn't got to the door in time for them to yell 'Back door' as they buggered off, it could have sat there for days.

Using this utter joke of a company is going to cost Play a fortune in damages and lost items, and they deserve it.

It sounds like your packaging should have been better, they usually use the foam all the time. Yes I think the 2 Steelbooks will be sent together. I didn't know you would get hit with Customs fees, I thought if you were inside the E.U you would be ok?

Not great service from Hermes bud and I agree they aren't the best delivery company even though I've never had an issue, but why do Play deserve to lose a fortune? They've been pretty good to us collectors if you ask me.

We, the steelbook collectors and buyers, are probably a very small and niche part of their overall business and for them to have done what they have with regards to catalogue releases, new releases, bulletproof packaging, HDN art voting, limited 4k runs, pushing the boundaries on steelbook finishes etc is probably testament to the work Wreck and the guys put in to keep them informed. And it sounds like a blessing that they have a fellow collector at Play who is able to fight for the changes we keep asking for. Long may it continue!

Ashcroft - the above paragraph is not aimed at you, it is more my personal view on many comments in this thread (and other retailer threads) which sometimes seem a bit undeserved. All the retailers do what they can but for me Play have raised the bar significantly. I assume the great packaging they use protected the steels while the Hermes driver was performing the hammer-throw with it? :p

I hope I don't upset anyone with this post

Play have a choice in who delivers their parcels. It's not luck of the draw, they looked at their options, and choose Hermes over Royal Mail. They choose them because they're cheap, and they're cheap because they use non-professional half-wits to deliver for them.

And Play knew this when they choose them, therefore any problems are just as much Play's fault as Hermes'. Play can't just say, 'Problems? But we gave the package to the company with the reputation for terrible service, how could things have gone wrong?', and wash their hands of it.

Well lets just hope they see these posts and take our thoughts on the issue on board.

I'm going to have to agree with Ashcroft.

Buying from Play is the first time I've encountered Hermes and so far I've lost out on buying Watchmen and The Raid steelbooks. When I looked up one order it simply hadn't been received by courier, and that was a week before I checked. Now to be fair, they did refund me for some (I would have had replacements but they'd gone OOS so I lost out) and replaced the one I lost. But it's not good enough. They must be getting stolen or something.

I had the same issues from Hermes as I posted a couple of pages back, I emailed Play saying at least give me the option to use RM even at a cost. The person said they will pass it on to their Line Manager, so I guess we shall see...

But it shouldn't be us paying extra. It's up to them to make sure it gets to us safely, surely?

Obviously I'd rather not pay extra but between paying a little more and having the hassle of returning stuff and stressing out about the incompetence of Hermes, I'd rather pay a little more.

Same with the steelbook scratches if all of the people who have had issues with Hermes bring it up in this thread maybe Wreck can bring it up with Play... HDN FTW :scat:

That's the problem Sigill. Norway is not a part of the EU. We have to pay custom charges and tax on everything over £20 to Norway.

My experience with play.com is that they use foam only when they send single steelbooks.

Doesn't matter, as play.com doesn't ship from within EU. They send packages from Jersey, which isn't part of the EU. Though, there is an agreement between Jersey and UK for a free movement of goods between the two.

The Channel Islands have a special relationship with the United Kingdom as set out in Protocol 3 to the United Kingdom's Act of Accession 1972, which formed part of the Treaty of Accession. Under this agreement the Channel Islands are not part of the European Union but are part of the customs territory of the union. This means they do not charge VAT on purchases but there is a free movement of industrial and agricultural goods in trade between the Islands and the Union.

All other EU countries still have to pay import tax.
