Go to options or whatever its called in your player ... search around and you should see one option called "restore to factory settings" something to that affect. Do that. Then try the hack. "hit setup on your remote, then hit 9-1-1-3. You cannot have a disc in the tray when doing this... it can rest in the tray so long as teh tray is open. When this happens, a new options pops up in the menu wheel called "configure player" in this you can change the region.

well i restored everything to Factory stteings and nothing. it shows that their is an update for it but the when i press ok it just goes to another screen and say Internal Error 3000:(

Should i go for RF-NS-BRDVD4 ($59.99) or RF-NS-BRDVD2($49.99) ? Both are refurbished

Seems like RF-NS-BRDVD2 has built in wi-fi whereas RF-NS-BRDVD4 doesn't!

I posted pic of box ... I got the NS BRDVD4 both times and got both to work. One required a trick of restoring it to "factory Settings" before being able to do the normal routine but it has worked like a charm for months ever since.

I dont understand why you update it ... I guess because you have different model than me? Many times updates arent good in the sense of players you are using to hack etc. As sometimes they become savvy to the hack and push out an update that then disables it. lil fyi.

I see steelbook86 has the model you have ... perhaps he can walk you through step by step on steps he took to get you going.

mine didnt come with a factory box, just plain white box with model RFA-NS-WBRDVD2

---------- Post added at 12:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:04 AM ----------

its supposed to downgrade the firmware. at least thats what ive read

---------- Post added at 12:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 AM ----------

the update that pops up is the older firmware that was on the link from steelbook86 and it shows that the update is going from newer to older firmware(from my USB), and thats as far as i get.

Hey buddy,

Lets try and solve this together. First, yes software in the link I posted will be a downgrade in firmware. It basically is the last known software that will allow the remote hack so it is the one you need. I have the exact same model as yours so this should work and mine was also a firmware downgrade.

Here is the link to the firmware again incase it was incorrect last time.

So what you wanna do is download this firmware to your desktop on a PC (NOT MAC). Then make sure you have a thumb drive that is completely empty. As in no data on there. This is just to make sure that we can rule out other data on the usb drive causing problems.

Take the file you downloaded and drag and drop it onto the thumb drive folder.

Once this is done you are pretty much home free. From my research on the net the problem lies in the firmware not being downloaded correctly and being transferred to the thumb drive. Your player is 99% NOT the cause of the error. It is the firmware itself.

Make sure you download the firmware again when you try this time to rule out a problem in downloading from the last time.

Once you pop the thumb drive in just follow the on-screen instructions to install this firmware.

I can tell you right now with 99% certainty the problem lies within the firmware download process or its transfer from your computer to your thumb drive. Again make sure you use a PC to do everything not a MAC.

Let me know how it goes...

^^^yup see I knew that would be the problem. Certain files don't like to play nice with transferring. Im not techy enough to know why but I know that you have to be very specific for certain files to work properly. My biggest problem was finding a PC, lol. EEK! All MAC's in the house here :roll eyes:

^^ no problem, punit. Just foliow the steps above in this thread and you will be fine. At this point I think we have troubleshooted the only problem that could occur, but, if you do have a problem just post up and someone Im sure will help out. :)

For $50 bucks I guess its an ok player plus its region free:) I popped in Justified and saw an episode, let me tell you what, I wasnt that impressed. I mean its a budget player for sure but the ps3 is miles away from this one. The quality on the ps3 is just much better, the color were more vibrant and the black's were awesome. On the insignia the blacks looked like it had a haze of grey it just wasnt all that, some what dull. I wanted to use the insignia for all time viewing but it looks like ill be sticking with my ps3 and using the insignia for region locked titles.

Most all tv shows are 720p buddy, so that might be why. (but yeah thats what I do ... I just use it for region locked titles.)

What do you mean Wreck???Both seasons of Justified are 1080p
Technical Specs 3 BD-50 Blu-ray Discs

Video Resolution/Codec 1080p/AVC MPEG-4

Aspect Ratio(s) 1.78:1

Audio Formats English 5.1 DTS-HD Master

I buy the shows that I like on blu ray, can't watch them on Netflix. I'm an audiophile/videophile, need it to look and sound its best. But yeah I watched the same episode on both the Insignia and the Ps3(Blu Ray) and their is a big difference.

thats what I'm doing... using it just for region locked titles. Although if I must say so I tried the same bluray title in my ps3 and this insignia as well just to test and I wouldn't say the difference was all that noticeable... I guess YMMV ?

Again can't complain for $50.

yeah I guess so. Some people eye's can be more critical than others. Whenever I see blu in 1080p I just think its beautiful, lol. Im sure there is a difference though like you say... significant for some and not so much for some.

You have intrigued me enough to go back and re-do this bluray test to see the difference. Will report back with what my eyes see :)

dont forget that the PS3 has more Video Processing then the Insignia. like HDMI Full, RGB, Super White to name a few. Do some testing and you'll see some differences. at first i thought maybe my Custom settings for my TV weren't on but i checked and the option are the same. Hope to hear from your testing

Cool info. I do know my basics when it comes to home theatre but I haven't paid attention or spent the time to learn bluray players and their specs as to what they mean.

I will do the comparison again and report back. Im sure just like tv's bluray players have their differences in quality.

I bought an Oppo dvd player a few years back because I have such a large collection of imported dvds, and I really love it.

How are the Oppo bluray players, though? I assume they're region free as well, but are they region free for both dvd and blu format's, or just one or the other?
