An interesting turn of events...

Due to production issues, a number of copies of these steelbooks have been deemed unsellable and will therefore be scrapped. This leaves the up to date print runs on the below titles at the below quantities;

What can we take from this .... bad news for consumers, good news for collectors. These are the new print run #s for the steels unless I hear otherwise. Obviously Zavvi has sold through X amount of these, but wont be getting anymore. Thus there is only X amount of each of these print run #s.

Take that for what it is worth and if I get anymore news I will share. I thought everyone might appreciate this info and I was allowed to share so here it is at face value. I guess later this year some of those above will become quite collectible. Order your favs now....

http://www.zavvi.com/offers/steelbooks/the-disney-steelbook-collection.list
http://www.zavvi.com/offers/steelbooks/pixar-steelbook-collection.list

All less than 1000

Lone Ranger a couple of hundred

Toy Stories 400ish each so will go quickly – Same with Cars and Up

Fantasia about 500 – But will be the rarest Disney Classic Steelbook in terms of print run

Brave 200 left but cancellations will come

Public legal claims? It's strictly my opinion. I've never been one to be obnoxious and run my mouth. Was just saying it looks weird...because it does. I didn't attack anybody. I didn't even attack Zavvi. What's the harm in stating an opinion respectfully on an open forum? If I switch over to the Aviator thread right now, there's plenty of nonsense that's gone on on the last few days that hasn't been deleted while being watched over by particular mods. Why is it that my post gets deleted?

Respectfully yours,

EDITED POST AS TO NOT MAKE 'PUBLIC LEGAL CLAIMS'

I'll bet you that zavvi NEVER produces another WFRR or Aladdin....EVER. They pump out too much crap, plain and simple. People are sick of it.

IN MY OPINION -

This is just another ploy to get some sales...pretty convenient that the ones that are selling the worst are the ones that now have the lowest print runs. This screams scam to me, but I have no evidence of that.

- END OF OPINION

I have cancelled about 90% of my zavvi pre orders. I'm gonna send my money to the Asians...they put their steelbooks together like their cars...BETTER.

These are not 'legal claims', these are opinions. That's what a forum is for, so people can have a voice.

Thanks for editing your post. Sorry, calling a company or individual a 'scammer' without any 1st hand evidence is not acceptable in our community, as it breeds aggression and ongoing arguments. As always stated for years, this is a friendly community for collectors to converge to chat about their hobbies-there are other forums based in legalities that issues like this can be discussed-this is not the place, and slander and libel are not part of the HDN spirit.

I'd like Toy Story 2 and 3, but you can get these new on eBay for less.

Kind of surprised about Planes selling out though. Monsters University still in stock, maybe it wasn't as good as the first, but still thought the film was decent.

Guys,

There are close to a million posts in this forum-very few ever need to be deleted. People only take personal when their posts are deleted on occasion, without regard for the fact that 100's of 1000's of posts are left, whether they are positive, or negative.

Thread maintenance (including Aviator, and any other thread) are part of a moderated community where people that own and assist at the site are actual aware and involved in what's happening and care to maintain a community conducive to the hobby itself, and the fun it is supposed to represent.

We've not asked anyone to automatically believe all info provided to us directly by retailers or studios. Your opinions are your own-however, there is a line that is crossed, when individuals or businesses are accused of 'scamming' or legal wrong doing. Sorry, other forums may allow things to devolve into unnecessary drama, but as the OP states, Wreck chose to share the info with you (as he has for years) so that you have info as given to us-we're asking that you respect that and resist the urge to engage in trolling or baseless accusations.

Hitting the 'cancel' button for orders, being upset, skeptical or whatever, is your prerogative, but within the simple rules of decorum and respect at HDN, contributing to an atmosphere of aggression and using the forum as a medium to get into legal debates (regardless of what retailer, and what product) is not cool, and it never has been.

Production issues, that means BEFORE they went to Zavvi. Do these numbers also include the numerous steels that have been returned because they were damaged in transit?

Cheers for the info Wreck!

I'm just a simple man but when it comes to maths I like to think I can do the basics. If the above steels were 4k print runs (with the exception of MU which I guess was more) then that means at least 12.4k units which are headed to be scrapped. At a minimum average net price of £10 a pop that is at least £120k that is being written off due to being deemed unsellable EEK!

Did they get run over by the forklift or something?! :p

It's amazing how badly the Toy Story's sold given that the only alternative is those poxy German ones and the uninspired Iron Packs.

Suppose it's the million dollar question how 12.5k steelbooks got damaged.

i was thinking exactly the same when the info was provided... looks like typical zavvi tactics to me. strictly in my humble opinion though.

Yes, people have been dealing zavvi long enough and on a regular enough basis to start spotting the way they conduct themselves. shenanigans, without a doubt. borderline breaking our countries trading standards (uk).

i dont doubt or question their ability to deliver goods, they have always delivered mine in perfect condition. that is great. but what is not so great is the unprofessional (almost incompetent) manner in which they conduct themselves in promoting their goods.

just because they have a close enough relationship with this forum to have mods/admin play representatives for them, defend them, pander to them and plug promotions, doesn't mean we should lose our right to a voice, a critical voice. this is (or at least is suppose to be) a public forum where opinion and debate are encouraged...

this is not, however, an auction room, for the purpose of plugging and promoting goods with a strong overbearing and nauseating influence from an outside business/party (zavvi).

i personally do find all this plugging and promoting quite cringe worthy. yes, there is this community here, but personally (just an opinion) it feels like zavvi have way too much influence here. feels like zavvi have employed a few people (or at least have them on strings) for the sole purpose of exploiting this forums genuine passion for collecting steelbooks.

Perhaps they are deemed unsellable due to contract issues? and Thus they are being scrapped? Idk exactly ... perhaps its something that helps studio book a loss? I have no idea ... just reporting what I do know and what I take as truth. fyi

I think in the end everyone will have answers ....

ie. 6 months from now what is rare and what isnt ....

time will tell.

Got to love the cynics here, zavvi have given the mods info which they had no need to. Personally think it can only benefit the collectors here to know that these are even more limited.

It makes no sense for zavvi to deceivd anyone and its obvious that they dont want loads gathering dust.

No one is forced to buy any of these but im sure when their out of stock a lot will end up on ebay or trade threads.

This is my humble opinion only. Zavvi have only sent me one dented steelbook, which they refunded immediately, no issues with their customer service, and no i dont work for them

There's a difference between voicing an opinion and making claims which are bordering on defamation. I don't think Zavvi's reputation could get much worse around here anyway but that's beside the point.

HDN obviously have a close relationship with Zavvi, as they did with Play. That means we get advanced and inside information. Of course the downside is that Zavvi want something in return and that is promotion of their business and products. I don't like the large number of sponsored links, the way threads are bumped to promote their products etc. but I accept that it helps to keep this forum running.

For what it's worth I had this info for a few days and it was up to me whether I wanted to share. I'm reporting what I'm told mostly because this would make them or some more collectible and I appreciate such info. In other countries sometimes I get print runs that I either can't share or can only hint at its limitedness

I think time will answer any doubters or prove them right.

Regardless I still thank zavvi for the intel and keeping steelbook collecting with good conversation. Hehe

LOL-if you call reporting Steelbook news, art and retailer-provided info on all releases for years, 'being on strings'.....

If other retailers released more Steelbooks and provided even more news, the front page would be filled with those threads. If you don't wish to see any of the info or make purchases no one is forcing you. But as the most active Steelbook site in the world, why exactly are we not supposed to post updates and notices for retailers that release them, along with sales so people can save?

We have worked for 5+ years to build a community that has as much fact-based info as possible ( and anytime corrections and updates are available have posted them). What you do with that is your choice, but the ongoing drama about how much Zavvi promotion there is for Steelbooks released....at a collectibles news site is hilarious.

Same people always thanking posts from the same people trying to stir up a fire, nothing new.....

I hope Zavvi have plans to release the rest of the Pixars, because looking at these numbers they haven't sold particularly well so far.

I think that buying through links is in all our best interest as it allows retailers to see how much hdn are a large part of their customer base and therefore they'll listen to more of what we want in steelbooks or at the very least pass on more information.

I personally don't have a problem with zavvi, if they make steelbooks I want I'll buy and if I don't like artwork etc I won't buy:D I appreciate all of the time and energy mods put into this site and getting as much info to members as possible.. if various retailers and studios get their wires crossed somewhere a long the line thats all on them. I appreciate all info, and I understand that things that we are told here can change at any point of prodution by retailers etc that we only find out at the last minute or when the steelbooks arrive on out doorstep, mods can only pass on what they are told, and I'm thankful for any and all info:D

I trust this announcement as being totally legit.

One thing I do know; in business, you don't mess with Disney. If Zavvi were to give out any information deemed by Disney as misleading, their relationship would be finished. Period.

What we have is REAL inside information, the type of detail that made many of us aware of why the UK's original Star Trek was so rare. Look at that particular steelbook now.

Take this as an opportunity to pick up an Ultra Rare Steelbook without the usual scramble for rich pickings.

Wreck. Thank you.
