An interesting turn of events...

Due to production issues, a number of copies of these steelbooks have been deemed unsellable and will therefore be scrapped. This leaves the up to date print runs on the below titles at the below quantities;

What can we take from this .... bad news for consumers, good news for collectors. These are the new print run #s for the steels unless I hear otherwise. Obviously Zavvi has sold through X amount of these, but wont be getting anymore. Thus there is only X amount of each of these print run #s.

Take that for what it is worth and if I get anymore news I will share. I thought everyone might appreciate this info and I was allowed to share so here it is at face value. I guess later this year some of those above will become quite collectible. Order your favs now....

All less than 1000

Lone Ranger a couple of hundred

Toy Stories 400ish each so will go quickly – Same with Cars and Up

Fantasia about 500 – But will be the rarest Disney Classic Steelbook in terms of print run

Brave 200 left but cancellations will come

Guys,

There are close to a million posts in this forum-very few ever need to be deleted. People only take personal when their posts are deleted on occasion, without regard for the fact that 100's of 1000's of posts are left, whether they are positive, or negative.

Thread maintenance (including Aviator, and any other thread) are part of a moderated community where people that own and assist at the site are actual aware and involved in what's happening and care to maintain a community conducive to the hobby itself, and the fun it is supposed to represent.

We've not asked anyone to automatically believe all info provided to us directly by retailers or studios. Your opinions are your own-however, there is a line that is crossed, when individuals or businesses are accused of 'scamming' or legal wrong doing. Sorry, other forums may allow things to devolve into unnecessary drama, but as the OP states, Wreck chose to share the info with you (as he has for years) so that you have info as given to us-we're asking that you respect that and resist the urge to engage in trolling or baseless accusations.

Hitting the 'cancel' button for orders, being upset, skeptical or whatever, is your prerogative, but within the simple rules of decorum and respect at HDN, contributing to an atmosphere of aggression and using the forum as a medium to get into legal debates (regardless of what retailer, and what product) is not cool, and it never has been.

I understand you have a job to do, I just think you're wasting your resources terribly worrying about what I've said. As much as I'd like to, I'm not going to try and stand up for what I said anymore, as a member vs. mod debate is not winnable.

I do want to say that I've NEVER felt ANYTHING but appreciation for anyone who has taken the time out of their day to collect and/or share information with the site. I don't feel like my posts disrespected anyone doing that, especially not Wreck, but if HE feels that way, then I sincerely apologize Wreck. That was not my intention whatsoever.

I also want to apologize to any/all members who may have taken offense to anything I said for any reason. And also for anyone who considered reading, or even just having to scroll through the nonsense a waste of time...I will refrain from posting anything that is not a proven fact from now on.

There's a difference between voicing an opinion and making claims which are bordering on defamation. I don't think Zavvi's reputation could get much worse around here anyway but that's beside the point.

HDN obviously have a close relationship with Zavvi, as they did with Play. That means we get advanced and inside information. Of course the downside is that Zavvi want something in return and that is promotion of their business and products. I don't like the large number of sponsored links, the way threads are bumped to promote their products etc. but I accept that it helps to keep this forum running.

i agree with what you say, but i dont think anybody here has the power or influence to 'defame' zavvi. being critical and even speculating doesnt equal defamation. not unless you are talking about a business being ran out of a car boot lol

db, i thanked levi's post because i agree with what he states in the first 3 passages. the same way i agree with most of what you just posted. however, i don't think anybody who has an opinion different to the majority wants to stir up something. disagreeing and having different opinions is just part of life, and so it should be here as well.

i would have liked to make my point even clearer now by not only thanking a posting, but it's kinda hard writing all this in my flumsy mobile phone. i will be back in full effect tomo.. :-D
i hope you understand, i really <3 hdn and the community here, but i became very sceptical with any infos that come from zavvi for some reason.

Zavvi could learn a lot if they fixed the issues that members like me repeatedly cite here, but I’m still glad they’re around. They filled a large void left by play.com. Zavvi have released a few exclusives that my collection would be otherwise missing. Scrapping steels means fewer damaged steels reaching buyers. None of us want to pay OOS prices if we can avoid it, so the info will help some.

Things get less friendly around here when people hate on what they think Zavvi’s motives might be. I also don’t like Zavvi being defended by others who also don’t know their motives, but I understand why the second group feels a need to speak up.

I didn't get this based on the numbers in the OP until I figured out that the other titles in the OP list are Pixar and that Wreck used the word Classic to refer to all prior Disney Classics that are not part of the scrapping campaign.

I'd like Toy Story 2 and 3, but you can get these new on eBay for less.

Kind of surprised about Planes selling out though. Monsters University still in stock, maybe it wasn't as good as the first, but still thought the film was decent.

Not really. All the ones I see on eBay these days are approximately zavvi prices and then add shipping on top. It can add quite a bit getting things shipped to North America that way whereas zavvi only charges 0.99 for each order regardless of how many steelbooks you order.

Cheers!

No apologies are necessary-no one is 'worried'-keeping our discussions on the topic at hand is part of having an organized and friendly forum to visit. We have never discouraged an individual customer's right to pursue their perceived legal rights or complaints with retailers, seek refunds, get better customer service etc, complain etc, if they feel it is warranted, but there is a direct route for those things, and this is not a law or trade rules forum.

And more personal comment to anyone that wishes to read on....from someone who knows this community very, very well....

This thread serves as a simple announcement of info available to Wreck.

Buy or don't buy or act, but I can tell you that every forum is monetized, and our site as a whole is a very small fish in the sea where forums that cover similar things are concerned.

One of the MAIN reasons we could grow the HDN community and even have news, giveaways, a store, collection manager, and every unique niche forum (yes there are many, many areas aside from Steelbooks, that you can feel free to browse), to bring you is because we have cared to be as reliable and comprehensive as possible, and we always have....and that was even before anyone was here to post info and links to click.

What you don't see is all the information that is discussed and debated, with all parties that share info, to help them improve their processes, packaging, policies, etc-to benefit everyone. The site does not run itself and it is the very support through your membership and your participation-and yes, purchases, that has allowed this community to grow from a handful of members to what it is today.

We have always asked that you treat your fellow members kindly, and we have always been advocates for our collectors. In return, all we have asked is the same. Our Staff, Section Sups and every single person who has volunteered and built this site thread by thread, 24 hours per day, and in any way contributes to the site today, has done so because of their excitement about movies, entertainment and collectibles, and because they like the HDN vibe that Wreck started years ago and the Staff continues here every day.

Our retailers and other site partners who choose to make info available do so because we are the most active community where our members are heard every day, and because we work hard to be reliable-and share feedback with them.

It has always come full circle for the benefit of the entire community, to be able to remain informed and have all of the info to make your own personal collection decisions.

Thanks

Well, I do believe slander and libel are used when referring to a person, not a company -I think you were looking for the word 'defamation'.

...Or, is slander ok ONLY when a staff member starts the thread or makes the comment?

I am not sorry for voicing my opinion, however I do want to make it clear that I truly appreciate info that is posted. I don't have to agree with it, to appreciate it.

We have had situations that started out in threads, escalate into in legal threats and offline drama and it usually turns ugly for members. We prefer to be proactive and avoid unnecessary situations, especially if they need to be addressed elsewhere.

No Staff has posted any slander here.

I'm hardly Zavvi's biggest fan when it comes to certain releases "Marvel" but in this instance I hardly think they are at it. The titles listed while not stellar are titles that people will buy, steelbook popularity is on the rise at the moment, so much so that several HMV's have been raided by shoplifters because they know they will sell well on eBay. It's got so bad that they are now in many stores keeping the new titles locked away and just a box on the shelf telling you to go to the counter.

Whether there has been a cock up or not, the steels they have left are it for those releases. Could happen to any retailer, mistakes happen. I remember the first Buffy boxset having to be pulled because the design damaged the disc's after they had been on sale for sometime.

Somehow I don't think we need to call Mulder and Scully. Buy em if you want em, or don't.

If the news Wreck shared is true Zavvi just made a loss, so that might = some seriously good new steels they hope will sell out to get some of that money back :D

And more personal comment to anyone that wishes to read on....from someone who knows this community very, very well....

Thanks for your insightful reply, it does make things clearer how the relationship with you and the 3rd parties work.

my comments are not intended as flames, defamation or even as disrespect. i acknowledge there are better ways to express my criticisms and for that, i apologize.

despite what i say, i do appreciate the 'inside' information that is shared regarding steelbook releases, if i didnt i simply wouldnt continue to visit the site.

also, regardless of my criticism, i do enjoy the collection of steelbooks that i have built up with zavvi and i do have a level of faith in zavvi to continue purchasing from them.

i just opened my three steels i got from the recent zavvi 'sale' and as always, they were in perfect condition. 'at the end of the day' that is all that matters. well, that and a good price lol

I would love to pick up a bunch of these, but then I saw my Paypal balance...oh the excruciating pain it caused. If a price drop happened I may jump at the chance to get some of them I enjoyed growing up.

I have a feeling some of the ones they can't sell aren't just damaged or slashed. I got an Up Steelbook that had an image print error. I seemed to be the only one that complained, but I am guessing that there were more than we thought.

But when it comes to prices, it is strangely cheaper to bid on eBay for the Zavvi Steelbooks. A £20.00 Zavvi Steelbook can be bidded on or bought for around £12.00. Some even as low as £6.00.

concerning the "Up" steelbook i wonder how many copies have these "vertical lines" on the top right of the front , my first copy came with this lines and i asked them a replacement which zavvi have sent but unfortunately my second copy was even worse

Complete balls up - Ordered some titles on Zavvi.com, then realised cheaper on Zavvi.nl with discount so reordered there
Then cancelled the order on Zavvi.com only to get cancellation failed mail as the disks "were already in dispatch", so then I cancelled the Zavvi.nl order and got the same message :(

Brilliant

Lesson if in stock try to cancel first then only place any re order if you get confirmation of cancel accepted
If your Debit Card has been charged its to late to cancel a Order

If in stock it goes to awaiting despatch very quickly with Zavvi your Debit Card gets charged very quickly

If its a Pre-order you would be ok as its status would be awaiting stock pick

Note Pre-orders with Zavvi remember they process usually a week in advance of release date and status change to awaiting despatch
If your Debit Card has been charged its to late to cancel a Order

That's what I was saying before (on page 3) This info is about "production issues" meaning while they were being made. An image print error is a perfect example of that. Now spine slashes and steels damaged during transit, that's AFTER production. All I want to know is if the AFTER affected ones are included in those numbers as well, because that would make the quantity of actual "mint" sellable steels even less. And who knows if we ordered now if even those items would arrive safely. :ohno:
