AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC has greenlit The Walking Dead as a six-episode series based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The Walking Dead tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Teachers, Strike Back) will portray the lead role of Rick Grimes while actor Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, who worked with Rick in the police department before the zombie disaster. Other cast includes Laurie Holden (The Shield), who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), who plays Rick's wife Lori.

The Walking Dead begins production in June in Atlanta with six, one-hour episodes for season one. The series is set to premiere in October 2010 during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. AMC announced development of The Walking Dead in August 2009 and announced the pilot in January of this year.

About the Producers
Robert Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion serves as Executive Producer. Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) will also serve as Executive Producer, and Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

"AMC strives to make original shows that play like movies and The Walking Dead is a perfect complement to the network’s celebrated movie franchise, Fearfest, which has always been an important destination for our audience," said Charlie Collier, AMC President. "With its depth of story and the remarkable talent attached, The Walking Dead gives us an opportunity to raise the bar significantly within this popular genre, and continue our commitment to being the home of premium programming on basic cable."

"The Walking Dead is that rare piece of material that plays on many levels," says Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Programming, Production and Digital Content. "Kirkman's series brilliantly captures the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse; and let's us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time."

Way to let the cat out of the bag;-) hopefully it's similar to the comics:)

Only 3 episodes left
=-O

LOL..yeah. Thought that was very funny :hilarious:

I heard it was VERY much like the comics.
Only 3 left this season - signed for 16 eps next season though :scat:

2 more to go:(
Sunday's episode was a shockerEEK! and it pissed me off:angry: why that person:( there is one other character that could of been taken out instead. One that gets no airtime, barely speaks.

Yeah, I agree, they could've taken out that other character. But I didn't mind the big surprise one in this last episode. Getting rid of the last voice of reason will really make this show get crazy.
Can't wait to see the final 2 eps!

This weeks episode was simply Awesome!!!!!! Nice build up and good tension;) the ending was one of the best cliff hangers I've seen. The season finale looks to be even better then the mid season finale;) damn a whole week left:(

The only draw back was Carl, how the hell did he get there so fast?? They were supposed to be far from the farm.

Yeah, awesome episode!

Glad they ended Shane now and didn't wait for the finale, since we knew he was going get it somehow. Awesome scene too.
I think carl saw something going on when we was looking out the window with his binoculars, and was already following behind them.

Next weeks episode is sure to be awesome too! :oohyeah:

I missed most these shows this season so I decided not to watch any and wait for day 1 BD! ... mad I missed .... but oh well. Blu-ray glory ultimately.

This is the first show that I actually watch while the seasons are going on. I usually wait till they hit Blu ray to fully enjoy them:) gotta keep this show going;) gotta represent. Wreck this season had some really good episodes and some really slow episodes, especially the first half of this season. The second half got much better pacing and some really great episodes, especially last nights episode and the season finale seems to be EPIC!!!!

Man, this show has really picked up a head of steam coming out of the mid-season break. Really enjoyed last weeks episode and am preparing myself for a heavy casualty rate in the season finale. Sunday can't come soon enough...

Unfortunately, it's going to be a long wait for season 3. Good news is that season 3 will be 16 episodes!!!

kinda my feelings as season 2 opened, felt lame, i was disappointed to say the least.
it was only sundays episode that made it up for me, but you know, something is going great in the storyline, they are becoming zombies without being bitten, now they are starting to notice this. Cant wait for season finale :)

I'm calling it now - here are the survivors:
Rick, Lori, Carl, Andrea, Glenn, T-dog, Daryl, Maggie.
I think Herschel, Carol, Beth, Jimmy, Patricia eat it! (or get eaten! LOL)
