I don't think steelbook is even about collecting anymore. Its just another medium. Its getting to the point where it's rare if a title doesn't have a steelbook.
No, they didn't. That was last comment was about Arrow Video releasing a title ( "Hell comes to Frogtown" and also another title can't remember the name now) as limted to 1000 copies, after having categorically claimed that their limited editions are "truelly limited". That they won't make further pressings over and above their "Limited" number, and won't undermine the collectors market. But they are going to re-release that title, albeit in a trimmed down package. People were led to believe that there would be NO further release of those titles. I don't have a problem with unlimited numbers being produced, just don't call it limited. You're right, far as i know Zavvi haven't done this, but imagine this: one hundred limited edition steelbooks available of the same movie, just with different artwork back and front. Plenty of choice there for everyone, but where's the collecability, where's the "specialness" ( my own word, that)? But hey, we AAALLLLL have our view on this. Just to put this straight, collectability for me means uniqueness, rarity ( to an extent), desirable, special - for me, limited editions should encompass ghese sentiments. Just my view, that's all.Did Zavvi ever expressly state that any of their Steelbook releases would be the only releases ever for all time and eternity? Perhaps importantly, does that even contradict the label of "limited"? Assuming that this new Steelbook will have a markedly different design than the original Steelbook they released, then the original's limited nature is in no way, shape or form diminished by the release of a new version with new artwork: they're two wholly different products.
Haha, yeah, i understand what your mean. If i spend money, i want something special - why not? You love a movie, do it justice, right? For me, buying Steelbooks has always been about spending on physical editions of movies that I love. If I'm going to own a physical copy of a movie, I want it to be something more than just a disc in a blue piece of plastic. I don't even bother buying Blu-rays anymore unless they're crazy cheap on clearance (in which case I watch them once and then unload them on eBay or donate them to a library or just give them to co-workers or friends) or they're in a Steelbook.
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the hundreds of non-Steelbook and non-Criterion Blu-rays that I've purchased over the past 11 years. LOL
(And I wish that it was rare that a title didn't have a Steelbook.)

Actually, if you look at the US market, only the big blockbuster movies get new steelbook releases...97% of smaller movies don't get steelbook releases. Movies like Steve Jobs, Swiss Army Man, Free State of Jones, The Nice Guys, Midnight Special, Imperium, Green Room, Eddie the Eagle, the list goes on and on....
And even for one of the largest grossing movies of the year, Zootopia, US buyers have to import the steelbook. US collectors have to import the majority of steelbook releases. And due to horrible packaging, you never know if that steelbook will arrive in decent condition. Even Amazon.com rarely seems to get steelbook releases, probably because their packaging stinks too.

No one would be arsed if the first collection was complete but starting a new line while forgetting the old one...it's a dick move
If I was sitting now looking at a full Disney steelbook collection then this would not bother me in the slightest
Hell im waiting for Frozen, Zootopia, Inside Out, Monsters University, The Good Dinosaur ones because they were f****** awful
In other words you don't want to see any re-releases unless they are titles that you missed/skipped first time around. I think you have undermined the point you were trying to make.
Agree. This cover is a million times better than the original release. To be fair the original Zavvi release wasn't great at all IMO, the Future Shop one was much better. I am predicting this be better than the first Zavvi release.
Of course. Yeah, i get what you mean. I do like the like the fact that somethings limited though ( haha, i am thinking of everybody pointing at me and screaming, "ELITIST!! ELITIST") - it's the rarity that i like in something, too. But, you know, i have missed out on a MASSIVE amount of limiteds - not just steelbooks, too. But i can live with it, be happy for those who got them, and hope that maybe in the future i can pick a few of them up. If i don't, then that's life. But Arrow video, in spite of what i said earlier, DO put out unbelievable packages - Hellraiser scarlet box is something incredibly special, The complete Dr Phibes, Society limited edition, Videodrome limited ( all of these are superb digi pak releases), and many, many more limiteds they put out whose rarity make them a bit more special........to me, anyway. My mistake.
Fair enough. Personally, the "limited" part isn't all that important to me. I just want something that looks cool to display for the movies that I love the most. I think that pretty much encompasses "Steelbook" for me.
Sorry, i didn't mean, "Of course" as in your mistake. I meant, "Of course." as in i agree with what you said subsequently. Didn't want you to misinderstand that, and me come over as some arrogant so-and-so, hehe!My mistake.

Yeah, thats true actually, i don't remember multiple steelbook releases of the same movie in the dvd format.........maybe, but i can't recall. For instance, HMVs Definitive edition steelbooks of Terminator, Predator 1&2, Conan, Alien, Aliens, etc, - i only remember only those steelbook releases, in UK, of those films, and i thought those steelbooks were really good. But, there were limited edition slipcovers of those films too.......if i recall correctly. Like you said also, they're trying to justify more steelbook releases of the same title by doing pop art, adding lentls, slips, etc.i remember the steelbook dvd generation. there were some collectors i remember being around at that time that simply stopped when bluray came along. they didnt want to start buying the same movies all over again in a different format.
but what we are seeing this steelbook gen that i can't remember seeing last gen, is multiple releases of the same film in the same region. the only time you would double dip in the dvd steelbook generation was if you were importing.
last gen, one steelbook edition of a film lasted the entire lifetime of the dvd medium. but this gen seems to be about making as many editions of the same film as possible, justifying them with gimmicks such as pop art, alternative art, 3d, slips and lenticulars.

Anyone who doesn't want to see the original steelbook line finished is selfish. I'm sorry but it's true. If I wasn't collecting them and I saw this on the outside I would be exactly the same. It's not fair on people and it's not nice to have an incomplete collection.
