It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

He asked me to do a sale outside of eBay for two of my Australian steelcases. I said no.

One to look out for. I'd like to alert everyone on here, but I guess it could be treading a fine line...

I just finished unpacking quite a few packages from eBay sellers, and in contrast to forum guys here, the level of damages was very high. Basically a lot of sellers just aren't very honest, and will sell a item as mint when it's dented or scratched. There are a few oustanding sellers who are very honest and diligent but they seem in a minority unfortunately.

And then there's the issue of packing too. The worst example recently was when I bought a pristine and mint/sealed Avatar Tin from a seller in Australia, and despite my several requests to send it in a box, she sent it in a jiffy bag! Needless to say it arrived with a dented corner. A terrible shame for such a rare item and really frustrating cos it would have been perfect otherwise. Some people really shouldn't be selling steels

Hit amazon up for a replacement, then give your dented one to your poor needy son..lol

thing ive noticed about amazon now is they ask you for the damaged copies back, i know they used to let you keep them but things have changed. Got a dented fast and furious 5 from them and they said i cannot have a refund or replacement until they get the steelbook back, i even have to pay for shipping to them so ill have to sell the damaged one and live with it.

I've had the same problem but luckily I haven't received damaged steels from eBay sellers. Maybe we should start a thread that has good/bad eBay packers just to give everyone a heads up? Idk how everyone would feel about that

Oh yeah and my Amazon Canada shipment showed up with a bunch of cutprice steels - all thrown in the box without any protection. And of course they arrived with 75% damaged. That's officially the LAST time I ever order from Amazon Canada. They're by far the worst of the major Amazon dealerships and a mile behind all the others in figuring out that steelbooks need more protection in transit. Never once have I had a shipment from them without damages. It almost defies belief just how careless and thoughtless they are when it comes to packing orders. I reckon their whole warehousing team needs a firm kick up the azz to encourage them to take more care.

Yes mate, it's a pain. Makes it a toss up whether to send stuff back or sell it off and take the hit that way.

Fortunately I get few damaged copies from amazon.fr or .de but when I do it tends to be something like Cowboys and Aliens Tin or Matrix Trilogy metal pack, which are heavier and more expensive to return than normal. It's a headache.

i ordered the kill bill, kill bill 2 and memento steelbooks from amazon canada on their release, only to have them stacked loosely in cardboard with no protection whatsoever.
on receipt, one of the steelbooks was rattling around inside the packagingand had become trashed by the contact with the other two. this also resulted in damage to one of the other steelbooks in the package. amazon gave me a 20% discount on the one badly damaged item.
appalling packaging!!

YAY ! Openned my emails this morning, very apologetic Amz.de, sending me free replacement, no need to send back damaged one. RESULT !! (eventually)

I sent a Pan's Labyrinth back to Amazon.ca 3 weeks ago... heard nothing back. Emailed them to see if they had received it and apparently they haven't. I wonder if they will still refund me, given the fact I uploaded 7 photos showing 9 different dents on the steelbook they sent me. I think photographic proof should be enough.

Sometimes it just depends on the person replying to your email. A few times I am told to keep the damaged one other times I am told to return it,Guess it depends on your luck on the day

What irks me is a one line reply from the seller that says "send it back" without return address and whether seller would cover cost of return shipping.

Btw, I am not an OCD collector but I expect item to be close to its described condition.

It's people like that that bother me. Obviously they only collect for profit. Could care less about the beauty of a mint steel. Ugh

I reckon that I've spent enough at the various Amazon companies in the past year that if something's obviously damaged and it wasn't Mr Postie, ie it was in their warehouse and they knew it was damaged, then they can send me postage first. Regarding the Millenium discs I did mention that I was so disgusted that I posted pictures of it in a forum (didn't and wouldn't say where for obvious reasons), so maybe that swung them into action a bit faster. I sent my email 2230 UK time last night, had my reply by 2252. They obviously felt guilty.

I do think alot of the time the sellers on ebay or amazon ect ect when stating "mint" there actually talking about the disks as ive bought from amazon marketplace before and this is how the seller got out of refunding me as the disks were mint but the steelbook was beat to hell.

My seller replied to me saying he watched the movie before he sold it to me and it played fine????
I told him it was not the disc I was bothered about but the steelbook itself and this had nothing to do with the disc and that he knew this as he advertised it as mint no dints....Did not get a reply to this

Well done mate you got a nice result there I must admit I have never emailed amazon about damages as I just go through the automated returns process that's part of the ordering system. To be fair they've always refunded me, but some of the stuff I've sent back was definitely not worth the price of postage as they'd never be able to sell it again. Maybe next time I'll trry emailing and see if they allow a replacement without having to send the knackered one back.

This used to be how they done stuff all the time, would send out a new one free of charge and ask you to dispose of the damaged one or give it away. I think alot of people might of abused this system and thats why they now ask for the damaged ones back.

Yep, they (Amazon.ca) did that for me when I ordered Pan's Labyrinth. They sent me a replacement which was even MORE damaged than the first one. I asked for a refund and they asked me to send it back. Still no update on this, 3 weks later....
