Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

I received Superman Returns Steelbook from amazon.ca this morning with a huge dent in the front, sent them a very strong email and they refunded me for the item within an hour as this is now out of stock. Cannot complain about there customer service but packaging was a crap jiffy bag.

Received Narnia damaged from yesasia

After this I am glad I preordered War of the Arrows from K2DVD instead of yesasia

So far i've had 1 steelbook damaged from ebay even though it was listed as mint condition and from play my In time steelbook had a little dent on the side. Nothing as bad as some of these on here

Amazon Japan already responded. They are sending a replacement Gran Torino free of charge and I can keep my denter. Now, the question becomes, do I try to fix it?

you won't be disappointed with k2dvd. It's a good thing you picked them over yesasia.

do you think it was dented before they packaged them or the packaging was at fault?

I finally got a Gladiator steelcase from eBay... it was advertised as being in "mint condition". I would consider it good condition to maybe very good condition. Faint scratches on the front and 3 very deep scratches on the back. do I leave positive feedback, or neutral? :/

Hey Craig,
as i think you paid "a bit" for it, you should contact the seller about it not beeing in the condition as stated in the auction text!
Maybe he will refund a bit...
Or will offer a return if you do not want to have it in an other condition than described!
It would depend then (for me!) what feedback i would leave for the seller...

There is not a seller on Ebay that doesn't know what MINT means. Three deep scratches is DAMAGED! Give him a chance to correct the situation. If not, NEGATIVE feedback. Its the only way other buyers can be protected. Sorry Craig. I was very lucky to get one from a valued member here that knew exactly what mint is. :)

Sent From The Bat Cave.

I got my Amazon.jp Dark Knight dented, but it's an outward dent, so clearly not from shipment, but from manufacture. Does anyone know how to speak Japanese so I can send amazon.jp an e-mail about exchanging, shipping at THEIR cost, since they shipped a faulty product.

EDIT: Just saw Che's post above, did you e-mail them in English, and have to provide a photo? Thanks in advance. I'd lvoe a replacement. My Batman Begins came with a loose disc, but I can live with that. Before today I had 0 loose discs in my collection, got 2 today, BB and TinTin(FR)

I'd like to keep it but I can't see the seller refunding any money. If they're good enough to take it back they'll just flog it off to some other sucker. I paid a bit for it, but not an overly stupid amount. I have seen ones with dents in them go for more! What do you think would be a fair amount to pay for it?

It's hard to tell. It kind of looks like it was damaged before shipping but all that bubble wrap and the bubble envelope they sent it in are so flexible that if you chucked it against a wall you could easily damage the Steelbook without any sign of damage to the package.

So I sent the following message to the seller of the damaged Gladiator steelcase:
Hi, I received Gladiator yesterday evening. It was packed very well
however, the item is FAR from being "mint condition" or "like new" as your
auction advertises. In the eBay condition selection, this item should have
been rated as "Good" due to the severe scratches and gouges, mainly on the
back of the case. Mentioning the scratches would have been an even better
idea as there would be know way a collector like myself would have bid up
to the price I paid for what is essentially a DAMAGED item.

Even by your own DVD grading and description, the condition should have been "GREAT:
SHOWS SIGNS OF USE BUT KEPT IN GOOD CONDITION, SOME SCRATCHING". (please do
not say that this is for the disc only, as your title clearly states MINT
CONDITION).

I would like to give you the opportunity to resolve my issue
before taking the matter further. Please reply within
48hours.

seller's reply:
as per advertisement it does state dvd is in mint condition. The ad doesn't state anything about the condition of the case. I dont have any emails asking the condition of the case, and didn't know you were purchasing this item just for the case.
I can only suggest you open a dispute through paypal if your not happy with the item and we can sort it out through there

What a cop-out! The title states "Mint Condition" so why would I email to ask about the case?! The seller pretends to not know that anyone would purchase the item for the metal cover, yet ensures that "WITH METAL COVER" is advertised in a massive font size!!

Auction: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160745925808&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123

Looks like I'll be opening a dispute, and no doubt will have to send it bakc at my expense.

I sent another message, showing my disbelief at their reply:
The ad does not specifically state the condition of the case, but it does state the OVERALL condition as "mint" and "like new". This is simply not the case. You cannot differentiate between the metal case and what is inside it. You describe the entire item, and in this case it is misrepresented.

If an advert states that the item is in MINT CONDITION or LIKE NEW, there is no need to email the seller with a question as the item should be described ACCURATELY!

You cannot pretend to not know that these items are purchased for the case, otherwise why would you mention the metal cover in the item description, AND advertise the words "WITH METAL COVER" in a very, very large font??

Well received the replacement for the Millenium this morning and guess what, someone's been trying to flatten the rounded corners with it. Guess what else someone is going to get an extremely polite but very forceful email demanding that the case cardboard wrapper be openned by a supervisor and the contents of the envelope examined for any damage either to the Steelbook or the shrinkwrap, until a damage free copy is located.

You're having about as much luck as I am surfury!

Today I received a replacement BluRay (not a steel, but a cardboard case)... JB Hifi sent me the one I sent to them to be replaced!!! IDIOTS.
