Hi All,

It looks like our former thread has become unavailable, so I am posting a new one. Feel free to post pics and share your worst experiences with damaged Steelbooks as received from retailers. I've stickied this one for now.

Thanks,
DB

No I would be exactly the same as you. That's nowhere near like new. It is more like very good but with several imperfections. I hope you get your money back, the steelbook was definitely falsely advertised.

Glad I'm not alone and that you agree. If he had listed it as "very good" or "good", then fair enough... I wouldn't kick up a fuss about it. Hopefully eBay will feel the same way!

Item description is just one thing. eBay recommends bidders to read sellers description of the item.

For example, I can have a brand New item which is unfortunately damaged. In this situation, I clearly describe the damages and expose them as pictures but still describe as New. However, if I fail to describe the damages but continue advertising the item as New then I have to take full responsibility.
My thoughts exactly mate. His lack of any type of description actually referring to the steelbook made me curious at first, but he has 100% feedback, so I felt that was good enough. How wrong was I?!

Another tip - Take pics of the item prior to posting or put them as part of the listing and make a note of the barcode. Also, take pics of the package prior to opening it from all angles, open it carefully, and immediately take pics of the Steelbooks if it is not as described.

I do this with any items I sell on eBay, but unfortunately, I don't do the same with items I buy from eBay... simply because it takes too much time and effort, as I buy quite a lot from there.

He sent the steelbook in a padded envelope with extra bubble wrap, and I didn't notice any damage to the packaging, so he obviously sent the item in this condition. I'm now also doubtful as to whether the image he used in the auction is actually his or not...

Sorry to see those pics, hope the case goes well for you don't think anything else i can say would be of any help :(

Cheers buddy. I hope it goes well too!

Noodles, file a dispute with Paypal for 'Item not as described', you may have better luck that way...

Thanks DB! I never thought of that. Apparently his Paypal has been locked, so obviously they're aware that there's a problem lol.

See if you can grab his photo off eBay (twice, once with their full extension, once with short one for you) then compare his with yours. You obviously have a decent macro lens or scanner so you should be able to compare like for like areawise.

Sympathies m8, hope it all works out .

Thanks pal. Good idea!

I'd already tried comparing his picture to the actual steelbook that I have in hand, but the quality of his photo is simply too shoddy. However, thanks to your suggestion, I've just installed an extension for my browser that allows me to download a larger version of the image, and I've now been able to pick out a few areas of wear/damage that match up with my photos. :D

I've also done a bit of searching around and discovered that he's actually registered on this very site! He hasn't posted anything or visited since last year though, so hopefully WW3 won't erupt on here anytime soon. :p

So my TF: Dark of the Moon was in SI today but was not showing up as delivered, I get home NO PACKAGE. I call the post office since there was no update and they said I can check at the facility if it's not there, so I go to the facility. They show me this sheet with someone (not me) printed my name on the confirmation and claim it was delivered.

So now I have no idea what to do. I put a claim in but now HMV has no more of the TF with lenticular covers. I am so F*****G P****D right now.

And apparently my mailman is on vaction and thhis is another guy. I am going to rip him a new one

wtf, this always happens to me too! whenever my regular postman is away, my package disappears into thin air even though the tracking says its delivered

They have a "signature" which is my last name in print which is not a signature. Not only that but I was at work in NJ during the time of this alleged signature and I can prove it too so basically they are effed but I still don't have my package.

If this isn't solved tomorrow, maybe someone on the forums who has an extra one with the lenticular cover would help a ninja out and sell one to me at cost or thereabouts

So the post office called me this morning with no real information and then told me after a 2 minute conversation that they would be investigating further.

Since I didn't get a call all day I went to the facility at the end of the day and was told that the carrier delivered the package to the wrong address. They apparently tried to retreive it but the person was not home and they will be trying first thing tomorrow.

But honestly I doubt I am getting anything back since the the signature wasn't accidentally signed by that persons name. They printed my last name. Aside from commiting mail fraud and possible identity theft, I am very unhappy.

The post office better make good and real fast, none of this 8-10 weeks crap you admitted fault, thats the end it :angry:

EDIT: UPDATE

So they were able to re-coup the package and I got it, score one for the USPS but -1 for my mailman for signing my name and then leaving the package at the wrong house so its a wash

Came undented in good condition, YAY!

My last post vanished due the recent site issues... but basically, the seller offered me a refund because he apparently felt "nervous" that eBay would refund me and also let me keep the item, so i replied saying the only reason he's nervous is because he knows that he doesn't have a leg to stand on. I then explained that I've been able to point out a few areas of damage in his image that match up with my photos. Obviously he's still denying all of this even though the proof is there! He's now decided not to refund me... I'm starting to think he's getting a kick out of all this, as he's just constantly messing me around and wasting time. I dread to think what condition his other possessions are in if he believes the steelbook is "like new".

Wednesday seriously can't come soon enough. I want to escalate the case and get this over with. I wish Paypal would let me open a case through them as well as eBay, maybe then it would speed up the process and I'd get my money back!

You can and should do exactly that. No harm in having two cases open for the same item, and you can rely on PayPal to act vigorously in recovering your funds if the seller doesn't play ball.

Damn it, just realised my other post about trying to open a case through Paypal has vanished too. But yeah, after a few people suggested I do that, I went ahead and attempted to open a case through them as well, but received the following message...

We're sorry there's a problem with your purchase. You already opened a case regarding this item. Please go to the eBay Resolution Centre to review the program details for information on what to do next.

I did it the other way around and raised a dispute with PayPal and then eBay, so maybe you have to log a dispute with PayPal first in order to go directly through them.

In any event, because eBay and PayPal are effectively one and the same, the same case will automatically be registered with both bodies. Some say it's better to go through eBay but I've generally found that going directly to PayPal speeds things up a little.

In this case I wouldn't worry too much as your case is in hand and being dealt with. Good luck with it!

Yeah, I think you're right mate. If anything like this ever happens again (God forbid), then I'll be sure to open the case through Paypal first.

I wrote an email ready to send to eBay, as the seller said at the end of his last message "goodbye forever", which is A) hilarious... he makes it sound like he's splitting up with me or something :p and B) not going to solve the problem at all. The reason I opened a case in the first place is because he was ignoring my messages, so I don't know what he plans to achieve by ignoring me again. Idiot!

Thanks for your help and support, Rob. It's appreciated. :)

I would never raise dispute at both PayPal and eBay unless I am convinced the seller is trying to mess around. I recently received a slightly dented Steelbook from a seller who has 1300 100% +ve feedback. So, have to give the seller some benefit of doubt and make things smooth and easy unless the counterparty starts messing around.

Yes, in 99% of cases the seller will be accommodating and there's no need for further measures. I think early contact with the seller is essential and that those first few emails will generally indicate what direction things will go in. But in cases like Noodles' where the seller is being uncooperative and unreasonable I'd have no hesitation in opening a case.

Well I opened a dispute regarding the Gladiator steelcase I received from a seller on eBay. I asked for about half the money back (paid $125) as I would be happy to pay around $60 with the scratches but that offer was obviously declined and then escalated to Paypal for review.

Within 3 minutes of the escalation notification I had an email stating that the dispute was found in my favour and that I have to send the item back (at my expense). Now I have to wait for however long until another Gladiator case comes up for sale and no doubt pay a LOT more for it.
